Re: Offball needs to actually have a consequence

The problem I have with playing offball all the time (not switching to offball for specific reasons, e.g. pick and roll defense, help defense etc...) is:

    A new player can decide:

    1. Do I learn to play defense the hard way and get destroyed at the beginning?
    2. Do I let the AI play defense for me and camp offball and get better results from straight on.

The AI defense is so much better than the defense of someone new to the game. This does not encourage people to learn to play defense, which, in the end, will result in much, much better defense, than the AI could ever play.

Have you read my post? I worry about 90% of the people doesnt bother to learn to be the best defender they can be, because they rely on letting the AI play, which at the beginning is much superior than user defense.

just worry about winning, not the quality of on-ball defender your opponent can be...nobody in the NBA says "my opponent is running a switching scheme, if only they hard hedged and recovered, they would be able to avoid so many mismatches"

no its "you do what you do, i do what i do, and lets see who wins"

defense is defense, worry about winning...

My only addition to this is...

Just like you would make adjustments to win, make adjustments to have fun, as it is a video game and many are not complaining about lack of success. Your opponent hiding in the corner, camping out in the paint, etc, can be addressed very easily if these are really your issues. Simply engage the user-controlled player with methods mentioned throughout the thread.

Next year I want offball offense, just sit in the bench and watch the stars running plays

There actually was a feature until I guess 2k13 or 14 where you could switch to offball offense and control one player off the ball. I guess you had to select a player via playcalling icons and then press the right stick and then you were controlling him

Re: Offball needs to actually have a consequence

Last year it had more consequences, with the cpu defenders being easier to cross and all. This year off-ballers hit the jackpot with the teleporting magnetic cpu defenders. On-ball players are easier to cross this year if anything. 2k is going backwards, IDK what they were thinking. Maybe it's the fact that the off-ballers keep complaining about things to make off-ball more powerful. Things such as, "CPU needs to defend this or that better" make cpu do this or that while I sit here and try to catch boards all game.

Re: Offball needs to actually have a consequence

I don't know if this has been brought up but the problem I have with running cuts on people who play off ball is that one of my other team mates is usually in the way and I can't utilize the cut otherwise I get automatic turnover. I go to run a pick and roll on the person in the way and then try to get the player to cut but the other person has changed their off ball player to another player.

In 2k17 if someone plays off ball then their CPU team mates should completely lose the ability to intercept passes. Your CPU team mates should only be able to intercept passes if you are guarding the ball handler.

Of course it's a terrible idea, because it would actually force people like you to guard the ball handler.

Do you realize how stupid the CPU is in this game on defense? And you want to dumb it down even more?

They already can't steal passes. Players can throw a lead pass to their big man and the CPU will make a half-assed attempt to steal it and the ball will go right through their hands.

next suggestion will be to have the other 8 players step off the court when they are not either the ball-handler or the designated on-ball defender.

^^ Yeah, just continue to reward those who let the CPU do all the work for them. So much skill.

I don't pay any attention to these online modes, but is there a one on one mode in the game. It would seem like this would be the perfect mode for these "me vs you, come at me bro" types. Or at the very least some mandatory all User, five on five mode, so that these dudes will stop coming up with nonsensical ideas.
