I really just don't get it, how can you not just play around whatever off-ball defender he is using?

The only reason I can think of for wanting my opponent to play on-ball D is if he is lagging, because then I can just run around him

LOL The hate for off-ball players is more insane than I realized.

Words of advice: Stop worrying about how others play the game. Only time you should complain is when the person is cheating/cheesing the game.

I win 90% of my games at the highest level because understanding how to play ball trumps any cheese tactics, and playing off-ball or on-ball has nothing to do with it.

The only reason your opponent could hide off-ball is if you cleared out and iso-ed. If that's your go to, then yes, off-ball takes no skill. But that's on you. You're "rewarding" your off-balling opponent by iso-ing all game.

If you ran an offense and/or actively engaged the man your opponent is guarding, your opponent couldn't hide off-ball. He'd have to guard against screens, picks, cuts and general action.
