Did you know that you can actually have fun in this game and you don't have to play like the children and the casuals that don't know any better do?

The more people that choose to play in such a way that is frankly just so irritating and annoying to its sim playerbase the more 2K's bottom line is going to be dependent on catering to these players.

I don't to hide in sim leagues and avoid matchmaking to avoid being matched up with children cheesers and off ballers. I want the game mechanics to impact you in such a way that your ability to win by doing those things is lost.

So yup. You don't lose anything by playing like a casual. Until all you get are casuals.

So you think if a majority of people who play single game online are using off ball and it's usually the same ones sprinting straight with Westbrook aren't doing it because it's easier than on ball?

If 2K would just stop making every CPU defender prime Tony Allen, then off-ball wouldn't be that much of an issue.

If it was easier to blow by the CPU then most of these off-ball bums wouldn't be hiding themselves in the corner with their SF like a coward lmao.

It's ironic though, the CPU has the defensive instincts of prime Scottie Pippen when it comes to defending you on-ball but when it comes to defending a fastbreak, proper rotations off the pick and roll, stealing passes, not biting for every pump fake, or picking up the nearest defender after a failed fastbreak the CPU is as clueless as can be.

Agree with this. Hope these issues are fixed in 2K17

What's funny is that even if they did have some sort of penalty(which they won't) people would still play off the ball anyway, so the people complaining might win even more easily, but they still wouldn't get what they really want in terms of forcing User vs User guarding onto others.

Unless the developers changed how the game works this year and didn't tell anybody then there is already a penalty to playing off-ball defense:

The CPU's shot contests aren't as effective as a human-controlled shot contest.

It's been like that for several years now in 2K basketball games.

The percentages of making a contested shot are much lower when a human is contesting a shot instead of an AI player contesting the shot.

Unless the developers changed how the game works this year and didn't tell anybody then there is already a penalty to playing off-ball defense:

You don't shoot greens in front of computers. This pretty much reduces any advantage this gives against a skilled opponent.

This also teaches people to play basketball by "Guessing when he is not on-ball" which is a joke.

Good off-ball players are off-ball until the split second you shoot the ball. You get the best of both methods.

Certainly beatable and non-optimal, but REALLY REALLY annoying, irritating and not fun.

People are acting like they or a majority of off ball users even try on ball as an option or switch between it more than right before the shot. That's the problem. This still get the SAME Boost as someone who used their brains and stick skills and played on ball a whole possession. I don't see how no problem is seen with this.


Got relegated back to seed 2 in myteam and played 5 games between Thursday and Friday and won them all. But every person rocked off ball. Like in seed 2 where everyone has experience no more excuses STILL ALL USED OFF BALL THE WHOLE GAME. It's just stale. And I don't see How it is that not a problem or considered cheesy by some (talking whole game off ball again)


There is a clear skill gap between the two ways of playing. Hence why sim leagues usually always require on ball

An unnecessary change which led to people making threes in defenders faces which they had no business taking never mind making them.

Ironically, the change that was welcomed by people who thought this would balance the game, has only further imbalanced it.

But that's just how I grew up. Someone beats me and they outsmarted my defensive movement. I guessed the wrong way or they deceived me. Why shouldn't an online basketball simulation the same way. As fun as playing ****ing find the off baller on the Xbox is and as easy as it is I'd prefer someone to have a pair of testicles and play on ball

There seems to be a common thread in the anti- off ball arguments that to play off-ball defense is some kind of indictment on your manhood. This is laughable. It's the same logic-free nonsense that is spewed at Curry, that because he shoots threes he's somehow cheating. As I said, laughable.

No one has said anything near that. NBA 2k has just gotten annoyingly casual on matchmaking. It's a SIMULATION basketball game.

Do you really want to this to be like the online of NBA live of like 04-08? Not sure if you remember but I got top 300 and I remember HAVING TO CHEESE. Because people had no soul, a tentative grasp of basketball basics and would do any annoying tactic to win. No matter what


I want to play basketball against a user at this point and no you controlling your center the whole game is not that. Not rocket science

If I catch someone playing off-ball with one of their perimeter defenders I send the man they're guarding on a manual cut to the rim. If I see them playing off-ball with their Center I pick and roll them to death. Works everytime.
