In my opinion this is the part of the game that is still well behind. The amount of times I've been close to breaking the controller after being unable to hit up wide open three point shooters, a Tim Duncan in the key behind his defender after he fronted, full court passes with Manu etc is ridiculous.
I have a feeling it comes back to spacing too because so many times your passes go the complete opposite way when there's a circle of players in the vicinity all clipping through one another. Players often don't spread out as often as they should, and you end up with a ton of players all in canned animations together.
I'm currently in the midst of an association with the Spurs and it is horribly frustrating running their offence when the majority of their players can't make simple passes over the top to an open Duncan or Aldridge in the key, or just struggle to get the ball moving quick enough to beat the d/or they just pass it the complete wrong way. Then there's the weird animations where your players get stuck which also interfere.
Passing has definitely gotten a lot zippier in the past few years, but still needs work to replicate the ease at which teams like Golden State, San Antonio etc move the ball around modern defences.
Others will argue scripting doesn't exist, but it seems the more momentum goes against you, the more of your passes suddenly just starting going everywhere, and that's really awful to watch.
I've always said that I want to replicate what the Spurs do with their bounce passes, clever handoffs and wrap around passes and have guys like Nash an absolute joy to watch, but we're still not there. As soon as you enter the paint with a guard a lot of the times it's a miracle if you even hold onto the ball. I like how they gave us more ability to dribble under the basket, but it still needs more work. So many guards get easy assists from easy dump offs under the basket. In this game clipping interferes, clunky animations do or they're simply not possible.
Please work on this in 2K17, 2K.
I play Madden and how it changed passing wise would be good example for 2K to follow I think. Having your players aggressively go after catches, step into a three point shot, cut back door etc in the way Madden has the different buttons for different passes and catches would be excellent. Right now in 2K you have no control over what the receiver does and too often to further make the flaws in the passing obvious they go away from where they're supposed to cut, they run into a defender, behind them etc and you turn it over.
Also what happened to having the ability to force your players to cut a certain way? It's horribly frustrating at times when you've got the ball in the high post with guards who have mismatches and you can't force them to cut backdoor for an easy pass and layup.
Defence is also still much too smart and quick to recover in certain situations. They still steal the ball perfectly when not even facing the passer or having them in their peripheral vision, they always seem to keep up when a player fakes one way and cuts the other and they all seem to have Odell Beckham like hands when stealing it one handed.
Thanks.
