Sounds good in theory until you think about how "great" of a badge gold perimeter lockdown defended is now. It's pretty much useless.

I'd rather there be no badges. Players are already highly rated, and badges that increase their offensive abilities even more passed their ratings already make the game frustrating

All these words (bronze, silver, gold, diamond) resembles some card game, let alone badges, don't turn basketball game into MMORPG. Basketball game can be perfectly realistic even without 50+ badges separated into 3-4 tiers which only complicates whole thing.

2K was realistic game even when it didn't had any badge/skill, i am advocating for realism but realism isn't necessaraly tied to badges IMO.

Especially when 2k doesn't show realism in giving out those badges...

I'm torn on this issue. The OP correct in pointing out that the game doesn't represent well the unique abilities of many of the players we've seen in the league. As a User vs CPU player only, this suggestion could work. The problem, IMO is that all the tuning and tinkering and balancing that goes on because of User vs User play ends up making many parts of the game not function well as a result, i.e., overpowered User abilities especially on offense.

I don't know how they're going to reconcile making a more realistic NBA gameplay experience while still trying to indulge User G.O.A.T. fantasies.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Yeah I mean what does Lebron have 40 badges. Let's just add more **** if right. Why even pretend it's sim anymore...

There should be 1/3/5 badges MAX for each player (depending on the colour) so you wont have a Lebron with over 40 gold badges. With bronze/silver/gold i dont think we need another badge colour but make the differences between the badge tieres (more) noticable.
Atm you cant feel the difference between a gold poster badge and a silver one. This makes the tiers somehow meaningless.

As an offset, badges should be rare. There should be only a handful of players who have a certain gold badge. Current Lebron gets a bronze poster badge. Current DJ gets a gold one along with prime VC, Kemp etc.

On a related note it's interesting to think of if the best historic players of all time could only have one diamond badge, who would be the ones to get it.

                    I am thinking:

                    Acrobat - Michael Jordan
                    Posterizer - Vince Carter
                    Bruiser - Shaq
Pick and Roll Maestro - John Stockton
                    Dimer - Magic Johnson
                    Limitless Range - Steph Curry
                    Offensive Crasher - Dennis Rodman
                    Defensive Crasher - Bill Russell
Screen Outlet - Dirk Nowitzki (or possibly Fade Ace?)
Perimeter Lockdown Defender - Scottie Pippen
King of Euros - Manu Ginobili or Dwyane Wade
                    Tear Dropper - Tony Parker
                    Relentless Finisher - Allen Iverson
Post Lockdown Defender - Hakeem Olajuwon
                    Killer Crossover - Tim Hardaway
One Man Fast Break - LeBron James
                    Deadeye - Larry Bird

                    Hustle Points - Moses Malone
                    Post Hook Specialist - Kareem

anyone care to add the rest?

This would lead to endless discusssions with the community, 2k doesnt want any of that. but interesting topic.
Fade Ace is not for post fades. So the right badge for Dirk would prob be deadeye which obviously is reserved for some other guys like Ray Allen or Bird.

J Will is an excellent choice for flashy passer, has to be between him and Magic really

And doh, of course Hakeem should be up and under seeing it is named after him, my bad lol as was imagining Kevin Mchale instead :o
