This is a serious gameplay issue and it affects the game. If I set my defensive settings correctly then my guy on AI should NOT be leaving a defender like that wide open on every single 3pt shooter. It happens ALOT and I mean ALOT.

Hell even if I were to leave the defensive settings to Auto, and the coaches AI set the settings themselves, this should rarely happen with good coaches!

But this happens with every single team. THIS needs to be fixed for 2k17.

I would rather have fixes like this for gameplay than expansion teams or Team USA additions.

I was going to post a video of a user I faced where a while back. Where all he did was break down the defense and then drive hoping a defender would leave his man. It was hilarious to watch.

This is a major problem.

I shouldn't have to deny ball to prevent players from leaving korver and Thompson a large majority of the time.

Do it in Gauntlent.

It's hilarious to watch kids run a simple PNR, and watch as you are forced to:

sag off the defender to defend the roll to the basket.

click on to the guy defending the guy in the corner to force him to stay so he doesn't leave 95+ 3pt shooter wide open.

Then go back to user defend the ball-handler to make sure they don't pull up and hit in a computers face.

Great points. Yea I feel the same way.

And the issue with me is, I play with player lock on 99% of the time in my franchise in MyGM. I usually control the Power Forward position of a team that I'm rebuilding. So I just let the AI control the other players on my team but I usually set up the defensive settings prior to each game I play, so when defensive players come off their man all the time, it gets frustrating hehe.

I would imagine that OG and his engineers that work on gameplay don't have anything to do with team additions, so both things can be done.

Whatever caused this issue was obviously something that couldn't be fixed in a patch, so it unfortunately was going to be a source of great frustration all year. If it's not already fixed at this stage in 17's development, I'd be stunned.

The defense settings need a huge change in what your defenders do off the ball.

You don't have to tell me how real it is because I know.

What I'm simply asking is that we as users should be able to turn off such automatic thing. Some time defender stun off their man and come back. You can't do those kind of defensive settings in 2k16.


edit: What I meant by you writiing all that stuff you just repeated yourself like 5 times in one thread. I already posted a great example of contorlling your defenses rotations. But that was very early in the game before patch one. Now your players get sucked way by the CPU. You see the same kind of defense. Especially when it comes to who to rotate off of. Instead of leaving the worst shooter. Your leaving the best shooter WIDE OPEN.


And I find it funny that you post the NBA Finals of all games. When literally the Cavs were rotating off Green and force him to hit 3's (which he did early on. And went cold in the second half).

Something I learned about 2k16 is that defensive ratings make no difference. Players like James Harden play defense the same way like a Paul George or a Kawhi Leonard. And big men are collectively s*** at defense outside the paint. And I don't mean that Chris Paul will just walk right past your big man (if you're on offense and have a mismatch it's nearly impossible to exploit the big men being slow), I'm talking about the fact that even if I set defensive settings on let's say serge ibaka to "tight", whenever the CPU will run a swing play on the perimeter, ibaka will be wide open.
All I want for 2k17 is to fix the defense.

It's not even really a defensive "breakdown". I'd consider that when a team is in scramble mode trying to recover off a mistake. What you see on those PnR's is the CPU consistently rotating to stop someone that (most of the time) is already being guarded well. That's an issue.

Breakdowns come from read (or misread) the situation & react, correct? In 2K, you know exactly when, where, how, who, & what's going to happen or not happen. That's not a breakdown if I know exactly how my CPU teammates are going to screw up defending this PnR, but I'm powerless to do anything about it because I'm playing MyCareer.

Defenders leaving their man in the corner (whose sole purpose is to space the floor, & knock down the shot if presented) to try to help in the paint -- when the situation is under control -- is asinine.

Can't tell you how many times I've gotten the ball handler to pick up his dribble when he comes around the screen, just to have him fire a pass to a wide open corner 3pt shooter...whose defender is under the rim... For who? For what? Why are you there? What am I missing..?

Reminds me of when the Knicks switched every single high 1-5 PnR w/ Chandler & Felton. From a basketball standpoint...**** you doing? There's some things that are inexplicable on the court. I don't want those things happening at as high a clip as they do in 2K16. Whether you're controlling all 5 or not.

Give me late rotations (does the CPU even help the helper in 2K16?) -- give me late reactions -- give me bad switches -- give me over aggressiveness -- give me passive defense -- give me unaware of time/game situation mistakes, etc. Don't give me "omgomgomgomg lemme leave this dude here for a minute, I have to go guard the rim because maybe, possibly, perchance, they might get deep post position... ...not to the guy I left wide. open."

You see this rotation. This a rotation I would say yup that's what we're looking for. Curry loses Kyrie.... Someone rotates over to stop him

If some of you want the defensive settings to always work, no matter what the team, or player rating, then maybe it should not be Sim?

I don't understand what you all want. It doesn't sound realistic to me, for every team and CPU teammate you play with to be the equivalent of the Bad Boy Pistons when in reality, that is not the case.

If we don't want ultimate realism then can we say that?

I guess you don't understand the complete frustration with 2K defensive AI.

The computer is dumb unless you are going on a run, which means you got a bunch of badges activating.

The computer leaves the trailer big man open for a 3 100 percent of the time.

You can spam basic manual pick and roll for a corner 3. I've done it multiple times playing against users. LOL, if you play MYTEAM and the CPU decides not to stay home on a PnR, the game is pretty much over in 3 minutes because there's legit nothing you can do about it.

Users will legit post up Lebron from the high post and wait until help comes to get off a 3, no matter what the setting.

A guard will leave the corner man to help on a drive.

So yeah, if I know basketball and know what basic fundamental defense should be like, if I go into settings and spend a good 2 minutes to make my settings, probably spent a good amount of hours labbing settings to prevent the dumb ish that will go on in 2K if you just let it be...I want it to work.

At the end of the day, it's a SIMULATION THAT RECEIVES HUMAN INPUT. I do not want the computer making decisions outside of what I mandate. I am the human, I am the boss. I don't want the computer to decide what to do on defense.

If I put on Tight for Off-Ball, I mean tight, not running away from Klay Thompson to help on a drive...that's stupid. If I put on Off-Ball Gap Iman Shumpert so my perimeter players will help on the drive, I don't mean to watch Lebron just drive into the paint repeatedly while my wing hangs around on the perimeter.

If the computer is gonna decide what to do, I might as well watch real basketball.
