Is that because of the release of information being done the way it is or because there is literally no market competition?

The one thing I give 2K is I've always liked their videos. Except for how the Momentous trailer sometimes comes out AFTER the game releases...

But that's usually closer to the start of the NBA season, so...

Yea marketing does some but it's not the main reason they are selling like hotcakes.

The nba popularity is at a all time high and we see that with the new deals and salary cap the players are getting.

Plus 2k doesn't have any competition so any nba gamer only have one choice.

The Friction trailer, X360 Achievements, additional screenshots with ratings, "leaked" details about possible My Player changes, released information about the controller layout, Willis Reed with the final disk and showing screenshots....

No one finds it "convenient" that all of this is happening for the past 3 days and after our yearly bootleg gameplay videos? The Marketing Team is doing exactly what they're getting paid for. Get you talking and speculating about the game while building hype.

Please....if 2K Sports got everything so locked up with potential sales, then there's NO NEED to market or release INFORMATION at all. They can release a news article giving the release date, then walk away. I'm pretty sure they could use the marketing budget on something else.

There marketing is to manipulate the consumers thinking, and it works, although it dont seem to be too hard these days to manipulate people with whats going on in our country and around the world sadly.

The sales of the game prove that the marketing strategy makes them a lot of money, so its doing the job they want it too, it only sucks for those of us who want to see info and gameplay vids much sooner.

Makes sense hit them all at once with what is new features, then the consumer thinks wow they put all this into 1 dev cycle, and the consumer forgets all about the long wait before they started to show stuff, and they start praising how hard the devs worked to do all this in 1 yr. Then after the game is out you see the real truth and the things they were hiding. I see it every year devs gets praised for how hard they work, then once game is released its not too long before they are being called lazy. For the record me personally I think the devs work hard to put out a good game every year, but unfortunately you dont always get truthful answers from some of the guys on stuff that wasnt fixed. Which probably if they were to tell the truth, then the bigwigs would fire them, so in the end guys like devs and the guys that promote the game shouldnt get the criticism they get, it shoudl be reserved for the ones who write their checks, that we never actually see.

I actually would buy it if they released no information prior. But that's just me. Everyone else may not haha.

The lack of competition is such a weak argument....the NBA license is OPEN to anyone who wants to make a NBA video game. NBA 2K as a video game CRUSHED their competition, but that's 2K Sports' fault, how??? Were they supposed to dial back on the innovations in their game, so poor, little EA with their NBA Live could remain as another option for sports gamers? Don't get mad at 2K Sports for being the only NBA game...be mad at the other developers for not being able to create a game to compete against the NBA 2K series.

Unlike Madden...EA Sports BOUGHT the NFL license, so no other company could create a NFL game even they wanted to. Madden and NBA 2K are in two different situations. One company has no competition, because they eliminated the competition with money. The other company has no competition, because they have a d*mn good product.
