I know this is a hype vid and all the fanboys in here going crazy but this trailer has me concerned. The extra commentary is def a nice touch and the pre/after game shows are great for immersion but those get tired and skipped through after a month or so. I am worried about some gameplay I saw in the trailer. The contact dunk by Butler is an old animation that the user gets sucked into and is completely non-organic. The and 1 layups made in the paint were weak fouls and a couple looked like last year when the game just decided what was happening after a button press. I hated how the game would give you or your opponent so many free points by auto triggering fouls and contact animations. Also the on the Bledsoe drive and dunk, the user sprints straight up the sideline as far as he can go then takes almost a 90 degree turn to get a free dunk. This is an old tactic from past years because it is hard to user control the defender opening up properly and cutting off the lane. So is defense better/different, or more of the same? This year the motto is skills matter and that is what I am craving for. This trailer's gameplay looked like a lot of the same from years past. Great looking animations and moments but animations taking the control from the players and helping dictate circumstances. 2k16 played at the highest level really is not basketball, it is more about how to trigger certain animations and events that will get your players open or force fouls.
There's a give and take with these types of animations. It does suck that they take control away from the user but without them we would probably have very limited two man interactions. And if they decided to go with a more physics based system we could have situations like when madden switched to the ignite engine. The game was more physics based but there was a lot of awkward and weird interactions that were unrealistic and took multiple years to polish and clean up.
To me it seems like 2k has been gradually moving away from the canned animations and moving towards keeping control in the users hands. Who knows if or when we will truly have full control but any and every step in the direction is welcomed.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Dynamic Commentary Trailer
I doubt it's intentionally but I imagine the 2k team seeing the too light comments and spitefully saying "oh we're sorry that blue was too light for you? Ok let's make it darker for you. How do you like it now?" Its kind of similar to the stadium lighting. People complained that 15 was too dark and now arenas that should be darker are too bright. It's like they go from one extreme to the other without finding an appropriate middle ground. Not complaining just an observation.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Dynamic Commentary Trailer
Am I the only one that doesn't like 2k's commentary?
I love that they are adding multiple broadcast "teams" (even though they will all feature Kevin Harlan), but the play-by-play commentary is something I've been hoping they would work on since I started playing the game.

Watching a real-life broadcast, they have their side-conversations and talk about off-court things, but transition to what's in front of them when something actually happens on the court. There's more focus on the game and less on back story.
In 2k, it feels more like a radio show where they occasionally see a clip from an NBA game; there's a lot of banter but very little focus on what's happening on the court. It really breaks the immersion.
With a radio broadcast, you hear less stories because the PBP guy has to describe every play.Comment

It's not like a radio broadcast where the commentators are saying 'Melo whips it to Rose, Rose passes to Noah down on the block, Noah bounces it to a cutting Lee' on every possesion.
Especially nowadays.
There really is a lot of off-game talking during the non intense moments...and they'll throw in a 'as Rose scores a basket there' in the middle of their sentence as they're doing so. It happened quite often in just the first 5 minutes of the video you posted.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Dynamic Commentary Trailer
Trailer was amazing my only complaint is once again too much 2K plastered everywhere in the studio where Shaq, Ernie, and Kenny are. Makes it look very generic, maybe they could add all the NBA teams logos in the background or maybe just the NBA logo.Xbox Series X: KILLMUNGERComment

Re: NBA 2K17 Dynamic Commentary Trailer
2k5 didnt have halftime highlights from other games. It had Sportscenter at the end of every week that showed highlights from 1 or 2 games.
I love 2k5 but i think we all have nostalgia goggles on when we think of that game. It had 20-30 canned sequences that Berman would reference during Sportscenter. It was great for its time but today people would complain unless there were hundreds/thousands of canned videos so that it didnt repeat much. Thats alot of work for something that a good amount of people skip.
Also it was 11 years ago so backwards engineering something from two generations ago is likely much more difficult than creating something from scratch.Comment

2K instead just talks about history a great deal, and after a few weeks you've heard the same old thing 80 times.
I've always said they need more commentary and analysis in the game of what is actually unfolding in the season.
In PlayNow they could do this by adding more and mores lines that talk about the current season unfolding. I'm aware there are already some in the game, but not enough in my opinion.
In the modes with multiple seasons, trades, and stories like MyGm and MyCareer there is an absolute goldmine of potential just waiting. Obviously they can talk about how well a player has been playing, how well they're playing compared to last year, but they really could and should add in a lot more. Talk about the awards races, talk about the breakout stars, mention the games that are vital in the playoffs race, mention the trade rumours, the coaching firing rumours and all that. And a major one that really is lacking is the lack of discussion of the generated rookies each year. Allow us to give them storylines, and have the commentators talk about that, but also talk about how their careers are going.
I understand that's an immense amount of stuff, but 2K could probably implement it eventually.
I just don't like hearing about 90s basketall all the time when I'm playing or how well the Warriors did last season 80 times.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Dynamic Commentary Trailer
The difference is that in real life they tend to talk about actual storylines in the season that are unfolding, then they might talk about how dominant a player in that game has been and then during returns from timeouts they mention other games and what else is happening today.

Regarding the Play Now feature, I know Madden is doing it but I think it's kind of a wasted resource. I mean it's cool, but are people playing Play Now to be immersed in the commentary? I think that person just cares about winning the game.Comment
