Re: NBA 2K17 Pro-Am Discussion Thread
The Pro-Am keeps getting worse and worse. Our low post players bobble passes 60% of the time, even with no one near. If someone is near it is an automatic turnover if they get the ball. People just run full speed into an offensive player and knock the ball loose by contact. You play good defense and you penalized most of the time. Blocked shots go back to the offense for easy shots, contested layups go in or the defensive player is frozen until someone else gets a rebound. Defensive players are sluggish and there is more cheese here than in the entire state of Wisconsin. Frustration levels are out of this world playing this mode. My squad is a pretty decent team but anytime we play cheesers or people who know the exploits we have no chance, we are very rarely beat by skill.Comment

But seriously I agree with everything you said.Comment

Tell me what people do that you call cheese. Hate this about the 2k community, everybody is a cheeser as soon as he beats you.Comment

Agree with his points as well but the cheese thing is getting annoying. Everything is guardable this year if you have a good team, so I'd like to know what he considers cheese.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Pro-Am Discussion Thread
And you should have to try against top teams, don't get me wrong there. But it is frustrating to have to put up with endless brick walls and offensive players being able to slither and change directions a lot easier than defensive players. This to me seems to be the most common "cheese"...sure it is stoppable if your communication is firing on all cylinders, but the absurdity of guarding that offense all game long is something that wouldn't happen in real life, and is what makes it feel cheesy.
I've guarded zig zaggers that are predictable yet too many times I find that my player is WAY too slow to react to my input. I know where the guy is going but my player will stay stuck for a second, and that's all the time one needs to get open. So many times I'll have tell my guy to move one way and he never does, I look down and my thumb is still pushing that way.
And it's often tough for help D because of people getting tangled up in animations. A lot of the top teams are absolutely relentless with this style the entire game that quite frankly doesn't seem sim at all.
And I'm not against off ball movement, just that I think the offense and defense balance is way off.Last edited by ph33; 01-03-2017, 05:18 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Pro-Am Discussion Thread
The post-Christmas server crash combined with people getting lots of new, different videogames seems to have killed off any interest that the people I was playing Pro Am with earlier in year had in this mode.
So if any Xbox One players on the U.S.A. East servers are looking for an experienced teammate to run with for the next four tournament weekends, I have three characters with a 96 overall rating and all of the badges unlocked except for hardened:
6'5" lockdown defender
6'6" post scorer
6'3" playmaker
Just send a message to the gamertag jyoung OS if you're looking to play Pro Am, as my friends list for the past two weeks has mostly been comprised of people playing Madden, Grand Theft Auto, and Battlefield.Last edited by jyoung; 01-04-2017, 04:29 AM.Comment

My team isn't the best at it but with 2-3, we usually attack from the middle. Two guys on the wings, the power foward or center (whoever between the two can hit a mid range jumper) comes foul line. From there it's just ball movement and making the zone move. Set up like this

Re: NBA 2K17 Pro-Am Discussion Thread
I probably have more of a gripe on the programming/design. It seems like they tried so hard not to overpower anything that they screwed up and severely underpowered a lot of things to the point of some aspects working against players. I mentioned some of them earlier, but post players can't catch passes regardless of position of defense on court. It is a crap shoot if a post player can catch a pass clean and finish on a fast break. Defenders not having to guard CPU players. If you run with a team of four you are at a huge disadvantage, not just because you can't run Zone D, but because CPU plays lackadaisical defense, switches randomly on defense, and offense is nonexistent five games out of seven. Magentized charges are the worst. What about the phanton turnover where offensive player with ball acts like he stepped on a nail, arms fly out to the side and then the ball just floats OB? Defensive steals are pretty easy to exploit, just run full speed into the offensive player with the ball over and over again until they stumble or just drop it. Blocking fouls are only called if the defensive player makes a good defensive move to get in front of the offensive player.
However, I digress, this was supposedly about "cheese." I take back my original statement and replace it with the thought of exploits and bad programming are ruining this game.
My team is a pretty decent team, when we lose by the other team being more skilled than us I'm okay with it. When the other team spends four quarters exploiting the game's flaws and it causes us to lose I am not very happy.
TL;DR - I am a crybaby and I list unnecessary reasons trying to justify my whining.Comment

Against a 2-3 zone you want to have three offensive players up top.
Against a 3-2 zone you want to have a shooter in each corner plus a dunker running block to block and cutting through the paint.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Pro-Am Discussion Thread
Lol since when? People complained about the bump steals last year and now people dribble through you. I rarely see any steals like this. There's always some type of foul called when folks run into each other. I agree with Banks on the cheese thing as well.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Pro-Am Discussion Thread
And while the ball is, in some cases, 2 feet away from the dribbler, you are unable to change the out come of the animation. It will play out with the offensive player magically keeping the ball.
The ball is too sticky and should come loose on on dribble bumps more often especially in those situations/animations.
Nothing too crazy, but the ball needs to be more loose/alive.
That would help with the over dribble and dribble spam cheese.
In my opinion, the stamina bar needs to deplete faster when spamming dribble moves and the ball should be more free once the dribbler is out of stamina.
Both of those things together would, at least, deter dribble spamming and make the game more realistic. IMO.Comment
