And this was unnecessary. Negative opinions are fine as long as they're constructive. This is pretty standard policy on this site.

I have a quick question. There are times when a game goes haywire and it seems like it is cheating to help your opponent get back into the game. When these things happen and you have proof or there are a lot of people with the same issue, there's always that one guy. You know him well. The guy that tells you to go learn how to play and that you're "trash"(new word of choice now).

      What happens to said guy?
Playing NBA 2K feels like a job that pays minimum wage and then cuts your pay when you get your Bill's right to make it even harder to succeed. I do not like this game but it's the only one in town.

At cheese, I'm trash. At basketball, I'm great!

Not really a fan of posters reporting other posters but other than that.. I approve.

I just hope that posters with negative opinions wont be labeled as trolls from the get-go thus leading to abusive permbans.

          Good idea mate.

I'm pretty bad at the game so I started coming here a few years ago to get a bit of help. So anything that enables people like myself to get information easily without all the negativity is much appreciated.

Not all reported posts are acted on... I mean, there are several users that hit the button on accident when trying to post normally.

Anytime a post is reported, we look at the context of the conversation and/or the history of the poster. It's easy to see a user not posting in the "OS way" and want to set aright said user but it's MUCH better to report the post, allow the mods to review it and you yourself move on.

Negative opinions are ok as long it's constructive and mature. There will always be features about a game that we don't like/enjoy and think is unnecessary; we should post maturely as if somebody is looking at our post and is trying to understand why we think so and what would be a good idea to fix it. The gameplay director (Mike Wang) said here on OS a few weeks back he looks at every impression post for feedback so you have a voice - you just need to ensure it's utilized effectively.

glad to see you guys take this position. OS used to be the only forum where you could avoid the unnecessary banter - ive been lurking on OS for ever but only posting for a couple years. it was like the barbershop of sports gaming - somehow the youtube gaming community found us lmao (sorry to the youtubers i like lobmob, sampham, ipodkingcarter, shakedown2012, brutalsim, and others).

there is a difference between passionately disagreeing about something and having a constructive dialog versus petty arguing. i love discussing this game with folks that really play this game as well as the devs!!! but when you pour your professional heart and soul into a project and its met with only complaint after complaint - youre going to stop coming around.

heres to hoping the old OS culture returns!

                goodjob mods!

It's all good. however, I think most people who are on here just to argue are about to disappear in 4 days.

                    Approved.

This forum was starting to feel more and more like the original NBA 2K Forums. I don't mind people voicing their opinion, but it's too much when I see your same opinion in every thread just a little bit relative to your complaint.

Granted, I've been guilty of it too on some topics. Glad that I only got a warning last week .

I always wondered if people did that...especially on mobile.

So after an 8 paragraph post explaining constructive ways to post negative feedback, this is all you got out of it?

People have already gotten on this post, but I want to address this issue.

We all know this is a forum developers feel largely comfortable visiting. Constructive criticism is key to that but it's easy to lose sight of what that means. To be more specific, one consistent mistake:

People take a negative, possibly valid criticism and ADD to it a perception about the developers' work ethic, level of care or conspiracy theories.

This particular behavior is ignorant, unhelpful, and something the community has to grow out of. 2k can be a frustrating game in the areas that it falls short, but it is not the developers' intention to frustrate or anger people. This is a HUGE game coming out on a SHORT schedule. There are several fully developed game modes tailored to different kinds of users. If you haven't actually worked directly with the company and watched how these separate teams coordinate, you have to accept that there is a lot of the process that you don't know.

This makes it ignorance on top of ignorance to take an error in execution or design and correlate that to effort on the behalf of the developers. That's stupid, insulting and it only makes it less likely that the developers are able to interpret, isolate and solve community issues.

Millenium would not have made this thread if people were just saying "this mechanic is still a problem, this design decision is a step back, this aspect is not working as intended."

People take a post like this and think of it as me campaigning for the devs because I know some of them. Quite the opposite. I have been extremely critical, in public and in private, but my primary interest is improving this game so that nothing on the design end prevents the community from taking this game to the highest level in single and multiplayer modes.

My favorite are the "they could fix such-n-such in 15 minutes if they would just quit being lazy" comments. I have never been a game developer, and I have never written a single line of computer code; however, I know better than to assume something is a quick and/or easy fix when it comes to programming. There were a number of years there where I was very critical of the direction Madden and NCAA Football were taking, but I always tried to be civil and constructive. These guys care about the product they put out there, and they have a vested interest in making the best game they possibly can. Resorting to name-calling, turning every little flaw into some kind of game-breaking problem, and questioning the developers' work ethic doesn't do anyone any good.

This forum doesn't need to be an echo-chamber of everyone agreeing how great 2K17 is. There's a place for negativity, and in fact, I like reading other people's criticisms. Sometimes it brings things up that I hadn't noticed before. But some people definitely take it too far. Hopefully the new policy does its job and makes for an even more constructive environment.

While I appreciate the extra input on the type of posters this thread was intense for I also don't want a witch hunt and/or this to be viewed as an opportunity to attack other users.

Please remember respect runs both way, and I expect respect to come from everyone here.
