Keep in mind that each team will have the right to protect 8 players in the expansion draft.
76ers or Celtics - Near the end of their respective rebuilds, both have assets to turn them into a contender

Raptors - An "almost" contender, would be fun trying to push them over the line and into true contender status.

Heat or Pelicans - Depends what you want here either a fresh rebuild with a team with limited assets or the Pelicans which have their star but no one else.

Sonics - Expansion team, build it from the ground up.

Thunder - Build a team around Westbrook make it a challenge for yourself to make them competitive by Year 2 or Westbrook walks.

Any team other than the Jazz imo - Jazz a pretty much done with their rebuild I dont know if its a team that can have real true success without a real game changing star player but they are the most complete team out of the bunch. The rest of the teams are at various points in their rebuilds. Then the 2 expansion teams.

Thanks. Agree with pretty much everything you said. I will wait to hear some more suggestions before I start

        Re: **2K17 - How's your MyLeague/MyGM going?**

I've never posted in here before, I'm a casual MyLeague player but I've been controlling the Heat for 14 seasons, simming most games, I just love the business side of things without the extra hassle MyGM has.

Anyway, the Sixers are dominant in my game, winning the last 7 years before Cleveland won in 2029. I relocated to Austin to play in the West and I think I've had a 60 win season every year, a couple 71-11s and a 72-10. Philadelphia had a 75-7 record in 2025 which was insane, with Jason Kidd coaching them.

My crown jewel is this guy, Dante Gentry. First ballot HoF, certain jersey retirement. Career averages of 24 points, 13 rebounds and 2 blocks (including back to back years averaging 31/17/2). But get this, he's a 7'7 Center with a 97 vertical. Look how high his hands are here:

7'7"?!? The tallest I've seen in MyLeague is 7'3". Did you create or edit him at all, or is someone that tall an actual generated possibility? I'm on PS4, btw.

            Re: **2K17 - How's your MyLeague/MyGM going?**

He was in a draft class I downloaded so I imagine he's an actual real life dude, just not at 7'7 in real life! To free up cap space and to tank I traded him along with my other superstar for guys on expiring contracts and filled my roster with average players instead, meaning I should have around $86m in empty cap space in a few years time, to go with high draft picks if we truly tank.

The league meetings are crazy. Originally the league voted for a 30 second shot clock which was approved, after a season that broke records with teams averaging 140 points per game, a 36 year old Curry averaging 40 points in 30 minutes and somebody hitting 16 threes in one game. It's been a very defensive and low scoring league for a few years. So when the option for a 45 second shot clock came, I thought I'd override it and approve it. Now Orlando has the best offense in the league at 58ppg while Golden State are only giving up 39ppg.

As i always ended up getting bored when starting myleague for existing teams after season 1, I will try a different approach this time. Ill start a new expansion in kansas city and will try to build around the young guys, get some quality rookies, the okc thunder way.

I havent tried that out yet as i always end up signing stars during free agency. Ill plan to discover unknown guys and turn them into a contender in year 3 hehe

So for season 1, let see how far i can go with malik beasley, skal, ullis, diaw and anthony brown hehe

                Re: **2K17 - How's your MyLeague/MyGM going?**

So far, better than expected for my Pittsburgh Phantoms. I had been experimenting with using the Force name, but I realize the presentation doesn't mean anything on the name, they just call us "Pittsburgh".

18 games in and we're 6-12. I've played 5 of them, and lost 4 of them. The sim engine is putting in more effort than me apparently. Actually, they beat the Cavs by 3.

I'm trying to find my way into the top 5 to have a shot at Fultz in the draft, and also trying to add another first rounder by shipping off one of my guys, I'm not sure how it'll work out though since I'm playing with a bunch of expansion players, if they were left unprotected would someone really throw a 1st rounder out the window?

I'm gonna play a few games tonight and do some more simming and see where we end up. Bail for Ball and Fail for Fultz might be in full effect!

Anyone have some MyGM tips/tricks? I'm wondering how I can rebuild quickly. Any tips on getting bogus trades or anything like that?

                    Re: **2K17 - How's your MyLeague/MyGM going?**

I started a MyLeague with my hometown Wizards. I have 29game seasons with a 1-3-3-5 playoff format and 10min quarters.

Year one was a frustrating roller coaster, so many ups and downs. My starting lineup(thanks to my stud backcourt) was able to at the very least keep me in games but my lack of depth screwed me over time and time again smh. We finished the season 11-18 and missed the playoffs. The warriors ended up beating the raptors in the finals in 5 games with KD winning finals MVP.

I ended up getting the 5th pick in the draft and drafting Lonzo Ball to get some scoring off the bench. Made a few good signings in free agency to beef up the second unit. I signed Ian Clark(a gem!!!), Lance Stephenson and Greg Monroe all to cheap 1 year deals since I had to match Otto porters offer from the Hornets.

                    Current roster:

                    Pg-John Wall
                    Sg-Bradley Beal
                    Sf-Otto Porter
                    Pf-Markieff Morris
                    C-Marcin Gortat
                    6-Lonzo Ball(79)
                    7-Greg Monroe
                    8-Ian Clark
                    9-Kelly Oubre
                    10-Ian Mahinmi
                    11-Andrew Nicholson
                    12-Trey Burke
                    13-Lance Stephenson

So far I'm only 1 game into year 2, coming off of a 122-118 win against the Rockets. James Harden killed me!! He finished with 33pts, 15ast and 4stl!!! Luckily John Wall showed up big with a 21point 4th quarter, finishing with 24pts and 14ast. Beal dropped his expected 20pts and Ian Clark went 4-6 from 3, dropping 18pts in only 17minutes. Clark is def my favorite addition so far. The rookie Lonzo Ball added a solid 16pts and 5ast.

This team is looking like it's gonna be a blast to use and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish this season!!

How's Nicholson doing? I know he's only average in real life but he's one of those players I feel the things he does well don't really translate into 2k.

I'm targeting Ian Clark with my expansion franchise this offseason.

Do you know which draft class you used?(what was their gamertag?)

I tend to sim a lot anyway. I prefer it as a management sim so I rarely play games.

It doesn't help that I absolutely hate 5v5 gameplay this year.

Looks like our first season is going to be tough. Currently 5-13 in standing but i got trey burke and glenn robinson III from two small trades so i got my young core now. I also managed to give up my 2018 and 2020 picks for the wizards 2017 1st pick so hopefully it ends up as a high pick as well. We dont expect much this season but i somewhat like what i came up so far for this season i plan to try to go 8th-10th seed and design my arena and jerseys

Starters: burke, liggins, robinson, patterson, skal
Bench: van fleet, beasley, rush, illyasova, jason smith, layman, brown, diallo, Zimmerman, d jackson.

How much cap space do you have? Curious because I started an expansion team as well and managed to draft cheap guys in the expansion draft. It gives a slight advantage for trades when teams are trying to offload big expiring veterans. If you keep an eye on the team scouting near the deadline you'll usually find teams looking to offload overpaid veterans and you can usually finesse them into giving up a pick (especially if the big is lower rated) in exchange for a solid young guy.

The picks don't tend to be lotto picks but you can package a few together and flip them for a future pick from a lotto team

That's if you're wanting to build through the draft anyway.

Thanks for the tip! Iam not sure the exact amount of my cap space but it is pretty large that i can sign 2 max players in the offseason if i want to- but i try not to or get just one depending on my draft picks Other than ilyasova and patterson with around 7-8mil, all the others are between minimum - 5 mil (jason smith). So i still have to see if my current young guys can flourish and improve
