Fundamentally there is so much wrong and even worse, unfair. The CPU has the advantage in so many ways that I'm constantly in awe of how blatant it is. The CPU walks around my defenders at will. They set devastating picks every possession leaving guys wide open. Passes fly into the paint for an easy lay up or worse an and 1 so frequently it's crazy. And what's so unbelievably frustrating is my CPU teammates can't do any of this and even worse have zero awareness to back cuts, picks, switching, the list goes on and on.

On defense it's just as bad. The bumping, the psychic defenders jumping in the way of the dribbler , guys intercepting passes with ESP. Defenders reacting to picks before the pick gets there. It's just all over. And again my CPU teammates do none of this.

I just really don't get it. Why 2k can't make the game harder based on fundamental basketball is mind boggling . I'm crippled trying to win a race with an anchor strapped to my leg. That's not fun. Not even a little bit

Tack on the fact that the game plays different every few days, and I'm still not sure if its because of game play tuners or just game randomness, because the only communication we get is an obtrusive eye sore of a notification telling us to go to the main menu to update our game. Is it a new shoe ?(which coincidentally won't work unless you use a current roster) A 3rd, 4th, 5th, Jersey? A game play tuner? Who knows.

I don't even want to tackle the list of non game play issues that exist.

Look I see a game that is so deep, that has so many modes, has so many cool features, has a monstrous amount of customization, but it doesn't matter at all when the game play is so messed up. I have had good games that were a lot of fun but the ones that are bad are just unbearable and to be honest even the good games come with having to accept certain shenanigans.
My thoughts pretty much, yet im playing this game. I dont know why. I love basketball. My confidence in 2k is at an alltime low. How 2k17 can be such a step back after 2k16 is beyond me.

I just have one hope left. The next patch will bring the game to the real v1.0 and we are done beta testing the game for 2k.

Everything is great, but for me this has been a glaring issue. Way too many conversions, and in general too many foul calls at the rim. Might as well not even use the block button around the rim or else you'll get whistled..

If anyone can lead me to a solution that would be awesome
The average players are converting these and 1's like their superstars. This could use a tweak to tone down the success rate. Its not just trying to block if you hold LT it happens as well. Its just coded for fouls to take place.

        Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread

This game is close to being really great all around from a game play standpoint

        1. And ones success rates need to be lowered
        2. Moving screens that screen that drags you in the paint has to be removed. Just a weird contact animation. The contact radius to draw contact on the perimeter is too wide. Just getting sucked into too many contact
        3. Off ball user AI defense awareness in relation to the paint has to be improved. Too many passes are just being watched in perfect position to be defended and nothing is being done by the defense.
        4. Lead passes into the paint have to be nerfed a little. The passing to receiver animations are just too easy and have to be redone. I hope this gets addressed before 2K18 it is killing the realism. The control of the lead pass is overriding the defense position and awareness. Passing in the paint is not this easy.
        5. Transition defense needs some improvements bigs are not getting back on made baskets.
        6. Passing speed probably has to be reduced to pre patch.

I really think the passing and receiver animations needs to be redone to make the receiver actually have to turnaround to receive passes in the paint. Lead passing or not. It is a cause of some of the unrealistic paint defense.

I feel you. I'm trying really hard to like this game. It does a lot great but the gameplay mechanics compared to previous years blows. It does feel cheap. It's like you know you're supposed to have a easier time in a game against the Nets but the Nets don't play like the Nets in this game. They play like all teams and can play consistent offense and defense like the spurs. I just don't feel as if there is enough separation in playing weak teams vs playing strong teams. They all feel the same equally.

I'm patiently awaiting a gameplay patch. I got the game last year around Christmas. I should have waited cause this game at its current state is broken.

            Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread

It takes a lot for me to get to a point of frustration where I make a post, but im here. I get that this is video game, and expect and accept limitations, in the name of having some fun. Every game has quirks and flaws.

The step back that the defense took this year on the user side is mind boggling. CPU making passes to cutters repeatedly as my CPU teammate just stands there happens all the time, and its cheap and frustrating. When your teammates are brain dead there's only so much you can do. 20 seconds of hard perimeter defense vaporized by a pass into the paint, either through my big or right by his brain dead face. Yes this did happen in the past, and likely no matter what will happen in the game at times, and I can accept it. Its got to happen WAY less to redeem this game as of now.

As a play now offline user I have some options, like lowering the shot success, but now im forcing artificial outcomes to band aid the unfair looks the cpu is getting. So the CPU is missing hard earned layups they should make, just so i can balance the ten layup opportunities they are cheaply getting.

First of all, I wanted to start out by saying this is possibly the most disappointed I've ever been purchasing a 60 dollar game. Part of the reason for that is that I absolutely loved 2K16 (and I've loved every 2K basketball game in the last 10 years), but discovered that this was basically an unfinished copy and paste 2K16, where they were trying to overhaul some things but stopped half-way through, leading to a mess of a game (my impression, at least). With so much potential, its disappointing when they take a step back instead of forward. There are some positives with 2K17, but more negatives, in my mind. To be fair I'll list both.

                    Spoiler

And I'm not trying to bash 2K or bash this game. I truly want the game to be in a better state, and I know it can be. They've fixed their past games with patches (though I don't remember them being quite as bad), so I know its very possible.
This is a well done comment.

We're now almost a month in. I've taken time to get a feel for the game. I don't jump to conclusions without trying setting, relearning some skills, understanding the new tools at the user's disposal, and so on.

A well done patch 1.04 could change my opinion, but right now, the game is disappointing and not a gameplay experience improvement over 2k16.

For all the release time talk of the game being smooth, in its current state it is littered with AI holes on offense and defense, artificial boosts to limit user control and effectiveness on defense and offense and flat out bugs that have required Beluba to push out imperfect work arounds (the shot meter glitch).

I realize, as everyone says, they released early and that makes a difference in product quality and time to finish and test things. I spend a lot of time trying to learn the game and share here on OS what I learn with others to improve their enjoyment of the game. I really enjoy the strategy sim style of play, so all the work OG, Czar and their engineers have done and try to do really adds to my enjoyment.

But as a full product, the limitations of the game make it so that those game play AI improvements by Czar, OG and their teams just don't add up to enough to make the game in its current state an improvement to play over 2k16.

And even the good stuff OG and Czar put in, it's taken the most dedicated, most attentive players here on OS all this time just to decipher what half of it actually does. The rest we still don't know. 2K doing absolutely nothing this year to communicate that stuff, and actually preventing OG and Czar from blogging about it and engaging the community here on OS, is mind numbingly dumb. To me, it's actually disrespectful to us as core consumers and to OG, Czar and their engineers who put in all that work.

When Beluba was generously answering game play questions at pre-release time, I asked a question he said was better answered by Czar. But then, Czar was never made available to do any communications. OG and Czar have done some streams on their own time but otherwise are out of communication with the community, probably working night and day to fix things that are all messed up in the game.

So, overall, the one word summary of 2k17 is "disappointing." If the next patch doesn't significantly change that then this may be the first year since I started playing the game that I put it down this time of year. I played 2K16 well into July.

Well said. I'll chime in once again. I'll even provide an example just in case you guys need more ammo; I just played a game with the Pistons, and despite needing to score 70 PiP just to remain competitive, the game completely changed in the 4th quarter. Here are some impressions from that game.

The AI was quicker than usual in the 4th and my guys were as slow as molasses. KCP was unable to keep Korver in front of him. And forget about Schroder.

Bazemore hit two off the dribble off balance three pointers.

KCP played his trademark "I'm gonna run into their bench and keep them from cheering, you guys can handle Korver" or the famed "I'm gonna get hit by this pick and just stand here under the basket" defenses. Three times. For three Korver threes.

The AI shoots 80% from 3 down the stretch to tie.

My guys miss 6 consecutive point blank shots in OT to lose. 3 of those Drummond and one Jackson with literally no one around.

The AI outdoes me on the fastbreak 29-4 over the entire game. The Pistons getting outscored on the break 29-4. Gimme a break. I couldn't even beat them down the court on perimeter steals. Things that contributed to this: Passes during potential FB opps never hitting a man in stride and always making him slow down; the opponents big men beating both Reggie Jackson and KCP down the court; Sprinting down resulting in KCP or Jackson "taking their time, getting going, ok, now we're up to full speed"; and on and on.

My ball handling going to 0 in the 4th. I couldn't touch anyone because it was coming loose if I did. 7 turnovers to 1.

Oh yeah, one more thing, I called for a screen with 7 seconds left in OT. Didn't work. Flat. Out. Didn't. Work.

So, as per expected, despite a 12 point halftime lead and a 10 point 3rd quarter lead, I lost, and no amount of pick and roll cheese could overcome that 4th quarter comeback.

If the AI was just on the same scale as the user all throughout the game, it'd all be fine. i love 2k and have been the trumpeter of this game throughout baseball season, where The Show is becoming super stale. I bragged on 2k so much, I look like a total idiot now because this game is just not good. I'm off of work for a couple weeks and this is completely ruining it because I was so looking forward to getting some great hours in but I see now that I can't.

This is why I may make the move to Pro sooner than later. All-Star and up comes with varieties of cheese. Those 4th quater unstoppable comebacks or shooting clinics the cpu does kills me. I've quit more than a few games in the 4th cause it just doesn't feel fair.

I've seen games were the cpu will shoot 70% of better in the 4th. All due to bogus back door cuts and player animations being slow and defensive break downs. All of the which are out of the users controls.

Mid 3rd quarter/whole 4th quarter is consistently a mess for the user. For me of course. The CPU damn near turns into a unstoppable beast. I suppose I can see it coming. They'll throw me a couple bones throughout the game. Let me hit a few nice shots, dig into the lead a bit or take the lead (around 4 points at the most) then all hell breaks lose just as I am expecting a real grind it out 4th quarter. This is Superstar play. Maybe my skills have regressed or something but Superstar is my usual difficulty with All-Star mostly being easy wins for me.

So just to try it out, I took the exact same slider set (it was working pretty darn well for the first half) and manually applied it after starting on Pro (before I started on Superstar, my level last year). It was a totally different game with the exact same slider set. Guys couldn't stay in front of me for anything. My guys were at least 20% quicker and 50% quicker off the first step. 3's were raining with Mayor McCheesebrook (that's my own nickname for Russell Westbrook for those wondering), and he wasn't even the one driving, Roberson, Oladipo, everybody getting in on it.

In short, despite the appearance that the preset Sliders control the sliders only, that is a complete lie. The game style and flow is entirely dependent upon which preset you edit from.

I play on Superstar settings on user vs. user games.. we put the shot success with contact slider down 5 points and the game seemed better, not as many and-1's. Still had a number of them though. I'm sure if we put it down another 5 points it would be even better.

Anyone play on HOF settings on user vs. user? I'm honestly wondering if this would make a difference on the and-1 conversions.
