Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
I can see the layup up meter being very controversial inclusion.
Sometimes you can't see the meter sometimes, sometimes you think your guy is going for a dunk and instead goes for a layup.
The "SKILL" is not in pressing a button and releasing it, you can train animals to do that at the right time. The SKILL comes from reading the defense , getting by your man, calling and making the right play, taking advantage of mismatches etc...
I like to play with out meters so i can just watch the basketball and not meters. I going to go into practice and see if the geen/near green jump shot releases is still at the top of the jump for players.Comment

For layups, you don't have to watch the meter. Just release the stick/button slightly after you see your player take off.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
I'm also having trouble with the meter on layups. Over the past two years I've gotten very used to watching the meter on shots and then glancing to the upper right for my feedback, but with layups I'd always just kind of hold the stick or square button until the animation let go of the ball. Now that there's a meter there, I'm finding that the game expects me to release the shot sometimes long before the player himself releases it (but I'm not noticing the player releasing the ball earlier if I release the button far too early) and it's messing me up.
But I've always been rough with the timing, usually too early with shots and now too late on layups. Plus I agree the layup meter is often obscured by bodies when you're in the paint unless you're crashing off a perfect screen.
Still, I like this inclusion, it's a neat idea to include some kind of skill in the layup gmaeplay.
I'm honestly finding the stick angle stuff harder to get used to because I'm so used to pushing the right stick in whatever direction my player was already going, it just feels natural to me even though it likely isn't ever how the game was intended to be played.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Yeah that's what I figured out, you gotta be looking at the feets and not the hands. It might be easyer and more consistent if you have to release when the ball leaves the hands like for jumpshots. It would be a longer button/stick press/hold too. The hands are always more visible than feets too. Did you guys try something like that during the dev cycle ?Last edited by Vni; 09-16-2016, 02:56 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
I think you are misunderstanding. It is not a first party (Sony/MS) patch update, it is an update administered from our servers. In order to apply it, you simply need to go to the main menu of the game. These are usually just subtle changes that you likely won't notice (unless something is affecting you).Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
positives
rebounding is vastly improved. seen some animations that were
flashy passing seems on point more than ever. I feel like I'm actually controlling LeBron now for a change....
menus and the way u can watch 2k tv during loading is a nice small touch
negatives
the graphics took a step back.. they seem very NBA Live-ish (stick figure esque) when I played my first game in 2k16 at the start I was wow'd by the graphics. quite the opposite last night.
classic teams are a disaster. a throwback Suns with no Nash? hilarious stuff 2k. no Sheed still.. etc.. and not sure where the 92 dream team is (I know there's a thread on this)Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
I know comparisons don't go over well sometimes but I bought both this and madden this year after skipping 16 for The Show, Madden and this which are the 3 sports games i usually buy. I feel like the differences are minimal. Madden improved more and was worth the money although it really had room to do that. NBA 2k the new controls are more fluid and gameplay tweaks but having a new story mode isn't really a selling point I overly like. The game is nearly identical to 2k15 with some minor tweaks a roster update and they've added new story modes the past few years. I feel like 2k is a great game but i wish there was more support for older titles. I don't see the need for the upgrade so much, more like I have to to get the new rosters to play online. NBA 2k is a solid game and continues to be every year. I feel like Madden got to that level this year. It's worth $60 if you don't have an older version but this game is not really worth buying every year any more.Last edited by celtics6; 09-16-2016, 03:36 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
My impression.
Mostly a improvement over nba 2k16, but a very small one. Wish courts had more shine, or at least the option. visually it's ups and downs. Gameplay is smoother.Last edited by BigDaddyHolmes; 09-16-2016, 11:41 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
The graphics are absolutely stunning. Everyone looks the crisp, the court looks vibrant, and everything looks really smooth in motion. Definitely the best sports game graphically out there imo. Only negative are the player models. Still too many guys looking like stick figures with no type of muscle definition.Comment
