It is a simulation and every few years or so a talent comes along that can do almost everything well.. Magic/Bird, Dream, Barkley MJ/Pippen, Kobe, LBJ just to name a few of the many players you cannot really make in NBA 2K17. I would love offline the option to be a true blue chip talent or a guy looking for his role in the NBA. Plus the story could be told different from the agents to getting deals right out college... I know it is a big wishlist, but most of all I would love to be that blue chip top 10 because of my god given gifts type of player..

Re: Devs please let us be the MyPlayers WE want to be
Now Im not a online player, but my guess is the reason fro this cap on players was because of the whole Pro- Am tourney last yr. Its about putting a team together and not a team full of 99 rated players, so I do see why 2k did this, they want the Pro-Am tournament to really take off and become a big thing. Probably hoping this becomes a huge success, something like those geek kids that play those shooting games that they have tournments for on TV sports networks, which really annoy me, because its not a darn sport, so dont waste airing geeks play these games on my sports channels, but enough with that I could go on and on about that BS that ESPN shows that arent actual sports, like Poker, lol.
I can definitely understand why some would be upset, as Im sure most play MYplayer to be the next Super Star, and not a Role player. I think what you said about splitting the mode so to speak, to where say you have a Pro-Am player and then just a MyPlayer being seperate would be a way to make everyone happy.
Again I totally get why NBA2k devs did what they did, and IMO thats was a great idea they had to CAP players, so its not a bunch of 99's running around, as they want to make it as realistic as possible. I know if I was young kid it would be a heck of a lot of fun playing in the ProAm an building a team, instead of having everyone be good at everything.
There is a reason its called e sports though. I dont know how shooting/fps games work for this but a game like rocket league is fair game.
Why e-sports? E = electronic/digital format, and sports because rocket league is car soccer.
Why fair game?
Cause in rocket league the only difference between users is the type of car they have. There are no ratings, everyone is equal and their actual ability to play the game, or control the car with the sticks and triggers is what makes it fair. The only difference between cars is that some are bigger than others which obviously effects the speed and acceleration but not by much.
Such a thing seems impossible to do with games like nba or fifa and make it seem fair. With ratings and overalls one player or the other is going to have some advantage

Re: Devs please let us be the MyPlayers WE want to be
You should be making a battlefield comparison, sir. Battlefield has bullet drop, wind, etc. It's a "Realistic" based shooter.
2k is a SIMULATION Basketball game. That's what they market it as, so the video game line people keep dropping is kind of flawed. If they advertised "Basketball" it'd be an okay place to start your arguments, but the fact that they market it as an attempt at a "Realistic Sim Basketball experience", kills that video game talk.
You wanting to be good at everything is fine, but it kills balance issues, dilutes gameplay, and stagnates creativity on here. Look at last year: 6'7 outside point. Everyone ran that by the end of it. There was no reason not to for people that only care about wins. No variety, no depth. This year so far I see a ton of playmakers that will be useless ones defenses are developed to deal with the speed. There is no "God" build. Playmaker is close, but it's inconsistent. Especially when ran like 2k16, they get so many dribble penalties they chuck up airballs.
I get that this isn't your cup of tea, but that's why they suggested player lock on a CAP in myleague. You don't even have to grind for stuff. Or...did you want a "God" player for online? Because that's why the Caps for stats and archetypes exist, to balance that out.
But to address your other point, there are God builds in the real life NBA, look at guys like Wilt, Jordan, Magic, Lebron, Oscar even Curry who dominate the game on multiple levels. I mean yes it's a sim game, but that extends mostly to the gameplay separating it from NBA Jam or NBA Street gameplay. Even on your best day in 2K your averaging 30-35 ppg on HOF difficulty with a 99 overall guy, Wilt averaged 50 a game, although it was a different league back then.Comment

My dude, I agree. Offline you should be able to go crazy and do anything. But they have to separate the modes for that. Or atleast online/offline. I'd be down for that. I feel like the majority will still complain. A lot of guys that are mad want to be able to pubstomp with a maxed guy. I feel bad for guys that don't. A few bad apples are causing your fun to suffer

I don't mind some caps.. like if you make a 3 point shooting big your D or rebounding or athleticism should suffer but not like everything lolComment

Re: Devs please let us be the MyPlayers WE want to be
Well firstly, I don't play online, ever, I want the modes completely separated. I understand the need for a cap in Park and Pro Am, I get it, you want their to be some competitive balance. That seems like an easily fixable issue, just separate the modes and everyone wins.
But to address your other point, there are God builds in the real life NBA, look at guys like Wilt, Jordan, Magic, Lebron, Oscar even Curry who dominate the game on multiple levels. Wilt and Oscar - different time period.
Jordan - inconsistent 3s, but arguably the only "Godlike" guy on the list.
Magic - No real jumper, range, or Handles. He was Solid, but there were better overall PGs at the time. Isiah Thomas comes to mind immediately.
LeBron - inconsistent from 16+ feet out, Footwork is pretty bad(He travels a lot, but does not get called usually.) He's not crazy all around, but his vision is on par with Magic, and his freak athleticism covers other areas.
Curry - While I've gone on record saying that last year was the first time I got the "Jordan" feeling since watching Jordan because of him, He's pretty fragile. Injury prone. LeBron and the injuries got in his head. He's a bit small. He might be the second guy I'd argue as "Godly" on your list.
Most of those guys have weaknesses. They are considered "Generational" or "Once every X years" players. I do agree offline should allow for this.Female Russell Westbrook.

Re: Devs please let us be the MyPlayers WE want to be
Your assessment of Magic is baffling.. While Magic was a poor 3 pt shooter he had range to 16ft and saying he had no handles is odd... He wasn't crossing people over but even Zeke wasn't doing too much of that thanks to the fact that they still called carries in the 80s. Magic's real super weakness was D..

Re: Devs please let us be the MyPlayers WE want to be
I'll be honest, I didn't catch a lot of Magic. I started around 93-94. I basically came in as him, bird, and jordan were exiting at that period. I do remember range being an issue, but unfortunately not enough on the subject matter. My apologies.

No need for apologies! I saw a lot of Magic (Because I am an old fart) so I might be remembering him through them 80s tinted glasses. He wasn't a GREAT shooter but he was Rondo also. You also have to remember the 80s and early 90s it was rare for the PG to be a great shooter... Zeke was one of the all time greats (actually underrated) and I would have to say that Magic was overall a more dominate player.
But I guess we digressing a bitComment

Re: Devs please let us be the MyPlayers WE want to be
Look bro, I don't know if you realize this, but this a video game. I don't play Halo and say "a real soldier couldn't carry that much ammunition!" Or "it's not realistic that Master Chief can jump that high!" I play that game to escape from the real world and do what I cant do in real life. If I want to be good at everything then so effing what? That's my enjoyment, if you want a more realistic player then that's none of my business either.
I'm not saying you in particular but, I don't get why people don't understand that not everyone agrees with your viewpoint and wants different things out of the game.
MyCareer is not an extension of Park/Pro-Am, Park/Pro-Am are extensions of MyCareer.
What 2K is doing is promoting team play because giving guy the ability to do EVERYTHING will just have them doing it by themselves and not involving teammates, it also makes games a lot of fun when we know we're playing a shooter and we make sure to blanket him at all times or a glass cleaner who we double team on rebounds or a slasher who we give space to.
But nah lets throw all that out the window and a 1 million of the same players out there doing the same size ups, shooting the same jump shots and spamming xComment

Re: Devs please let us be the MyPlayers WE want to be
But in truth, like others have said, if you truly know what you're doing then you can easily be great and the game isn't exactly holding you back. I mean I played Pro-Am last night with my glass cleaning C who has a 33 3PT rating and I made a 3 when I was hot on offense. Truthfully, that shouldn't be happening but it goes to show that caps aren't the be all and end all. Same with having a 73 mid range. If it's a guard, they'd freak out at that rating but I'm hitting mids at that level a lot more consistently when open than last year. My rebound rating was a 73 before upgrading and I could easily grab 20 boards a game on 12 minute quarters. Ratings and caps aren't everything and I feel like 2K encourages the wrong message focusing so much on overall ratings.Comment
