Re: Everythin Broke
My problem with those threads is that players expect every player EVEN TERRIBLE DEFENDERS to be good defenders all the time. And then complain when it doesn't happen.Anyone saying this game is great or isn't broke is either delusional or knows next to nothing about basketball. I'm glad you are having fun, but 2K royally screwed up with this game.
The defensive AI problems are inexcusable and undeniable. There are countless threads and videos all over this site and YouTube demonstrating the problems. It's broken. Beyond belief.
Add in the injury issues (also threads about this) and fatigue and recovery issues, and you have a totally unplayable franchise mode experience.
This game does so much right. It really does. And the game play is so smooth. But the problems are huge and I can't just pretend they don't exist. More power to you if you can... but I'm not OK with defenders getting shoved out of plays or literally just running away from their man to give them wide open shots.
There are some lingering transition issues and those are legitimate in my mind but by and large good defenders play well and **** defenders don't.

In my videos I have examples of Michael Jordan and LeBron James leaving their man wide open to do nothing but hang out alone in the paint. It's not just about bad defenders. My problem with those threads is that players expect every player EVEN TERRIBLE DEFENDERS to be good defenders all the time. Re: Everythin Broke
Stop thinking like a video game and think about what you see when you watch a real basketball game. Defensive skills are essentially about awareness and positioning, discipline etc. If you put D Russ in the right position to defend with his length and height he will do decent work, even if his rating is just 60 in the game. You're thinking like this is a simple video game where you're supposed to be able to predict outcomes based on ratings and stats. That's not how real basketball works. It's about systems and man management, and putting players in the best positions to succeed. That is where NBA 2K has now gone. Move with the times. If you don't want a simulation, you're going to have a problem.I never want realistic. I want fun. But with the contested shot thing, for me, its not players make shots. I'd expect a guy like Dame to knock crazy shots down. That I have no issue with and think a lot of users forget that defensive ratings are a thing. D. Russell can not guard Dame regardless of your defensive settings. if you dont adjust or put a better defender on him you're getting roasted. And thats what should happen against bad defenders.
But when a guy who is 60 OVR is knocking down crazy looks with a defender all over him it makes you wonder. I personally don't think the shooting should be changed from it, however. Its just one of those things.

Stop thinking a video game is real life. The Lakers are not taking advice from me on how to set up their defense. These players have defensive ratings, full stop. And they matter. D. Russ/Clarkson does not have the awareness or defensive prowess to stop Dame. Ever. Video game or not, he is a liability on the Defensive end. And I am happier that their ratings matter.
It's frustrating but sometimes someone's offense is just better than everyone's defense.

Re: Everythin Broke
You are not using "ACE", you are using Defensive settings. That is completely different. ACE is not working and it doesn't matter if you have it on or off. All you're seeing is basic AI because the ACE adjustment revert back to some crashing auto and another directive.Comment

Re: Everythin Broke
And you did not post your settings or POEs. We have nonclue what you are telling your defenders to do. Yes I agree there are transition D issues but I think *some* of these things could be mitigated via defensive settings.

Re: Everythin Broke
If you watched the vids you would know it was CPUvCPU. The reason I do this is because before I start playing user games, I want the CPU to be playing well. If this is a problem for the CPU, there is nothing we can do when we are playing against them. This is not just a user issue. We may be able to change settings to alleviate problems for our team, but how about the CPU? What's the fix for them?
I've never denied that there aren't ways to improve the AI through user settings. But when the default game is playing the way it is, there is a problem.Last edited by 33JAF; 09-24-2016, 01:36 PM.Comment

de_jesus is ignoring the points people are trying to make and focusing solely on "bad defenders should be bad." Re: Everythin Broke
I see. I wasn't aware of the CPU v CPU dynamic. I think you did the Jordan-B Shaw clip right. I felt Jordan played it correctly until B Shaw pulled up for the shot and he did not close out. In that sense, I see where you coming from. But should the CPU always look to cut off the corner three and leave the lane open for a late pass.
What trade off do we want the CPU to be ok with?
I guess I recognize what you're saying but I'm not completely on board with saying its broken. It may just be the CPU prioritizing protecting the lane over everything else. Can't guard everything in transition.
My biggest gripe is players just seeming unaware of their man im transition. Whether they defend or not, they should be looking to body someone up.

Re: Everythin Broke
I'm not ignoring anything. I'm the only one considering what caliber of defender we are talking about and the human element with regards to the game. You seem like you expect every defender to be Tony Allen if you set their settings right but that should not be the case if ratings matter.

Re: Everythin Broke
Career game play is fun. The cutscenes and fluff are kind of blah. The online is a mess this year both with being unable to get into a pro am game, disconnects, and just bad balance.
I legit feel like this game plays cheesier than last year online ( even in pro am) and that's interesting because they supposedly added archetypes to tone things down.

Ace, the AI... call it whatever you want but when you let the defensive settings on Auto the AI does it's thing and you have no idea what it is.You are not using "ACE", you are using Defensive settings.
