Re: The MESS that is 2K17's help defense... How to fix THREAD

The rotations are light years better with these settings. One issue I still see is the Center allowing their guy to get open under the basket for no reason. This was an issue in 2K16 as well. Seems to be a hardcoded issue that cannot be fixed on our end.

Sampham- Question for you... Should we only set the opposing team Center to (Pre-Rotate- Yes / Screen Help Rules- Auto).... Or should we include the PF with these settings as well? The reason I ask is some team will use their PF at Center from time to time.

Great job, Sam! You may have saved this game for a lot of us.

I was about ready to put this game down, but with these settings the AI controlled defenders play phenomenally well. This shows the developers do have the system in place for great defense. They just have their settings out of whack and its causing the AI to go haywire..

For those that did not watch the video, see below for step by step..

Beginning of the game go into Gameplan- Defensive settings..

      1. Make all adjustments on the first screen so it applies to everyone.
      2. Switch Rules- Use "Switch All".. *Do not leave on AUTO* (This is what is causing the big men and other defenders to just wander off from their man)
      3. Pre-Rotate- Switch to "NO (All)"
      4. Screen Help Rules- "Help and No Rotation (All)"
      5. Help Rules- "Help (All)

Now here is the second step and this is key! Change the individual settings for all opposing team Centers to what you see below..

      1. Pre-Rotate- Yes
      2. Screen Help Rules- Auto

Boom! Try this and watch how much better your team AI plays. Its literally night and day. Thank you Sam Pham!

Once again, someone please send this to the developers. These changes need to be hard coded in the game.
Thanks for the written post. Quick question for those that have tried the adjustments, with the "switch all" setting, does the CPU in all ball screens? Or could I still set my pnr settings to hedge, ice, etc... ? (Can't watch the video right now)

Tried these settings and it seems like a different game in some regards. Awesome job, Sam.

Just an FYI...I did cpu vs cpu...went in and took control of each team and put these settings in and then moved the co.stroller back to CPU vs CPU and the settings stuck. So what you guys prolly want to do when playing against the cpu is go in and change those settings for them too.

Good stuff, Sam. But we're still only 1/2 way there for offline players vs cpu. Fingers are crossed that they see this and apply these settings to the cpu.

I was just doing some labbing for the Prerotate setting and I think I was able to figure out where alot of the seemingly random motion comes from.

The Prerotate option brings an extra defender "to the nail". This can happen even in just a simple isolation play.

In the example video (sorry for the poor quality) I set my help options to No Help for all players. I set Prerotate to No for all players except Lebron. For Lebron I set Prerotate to Yes. When the game starts, I switch over to the Cavs so I can study the defensive settings.

There are four offensive possesions for me in the video:

1a. I iso LeBron on the right wing. Zaza comes behind KD since Prerotate is set to Yes for LeBron.
1b. I iso LeBron on the right wing again. This time, Draymond comes to help since he is closer to the action.
                        2. I iso LeBron on the left wing. Zaza comes behind KD again and Curry rotates down to cover Zaza's man.
                        3. I iso Kyrie on the left wing and no additional help comes since Preroate is set to No.
                        4. I iso Lebron again on the right wing and Zaza comes over once again.

Sam seems to think in his setting sets that the Prerotate setting helps determine who will come to help, but I think this is really what it does. You aren't seeing any breakdowns with Prerotate to Yes on the center since the center is never isolated on the outside.

Good stuff the rest of the Sam Pham stuff was on the money. The defense is much better with these settings.

I hope people will realize that your player still will not play perfect off ball defense. Every now and then your player will not play tight on ball even though you said so. It is like a different game on defense with these settings

Can we input these in the main menu for coach strategies, for all teams. I don't recall if that is there or not. Or will we have to go in each game and do these things?
