Well this thread is going almost exactly how I expected it to go once I saw the title......."Baseball is the coolest sport because, at any moment, the catcher can stop the game and go tell the pitcher a secret" - Rob Fee -
Re: What 2kSport told us we could expect from NBA 2k17. Did they deliver?
It's not just about whether or not you like it though, it's also about "did it improve on the previous year's game?", and while it did in some, in many ways it has been a step back.
For one, the new "emphasis on collisions and physicality" they implemented feels like it wasn't nearly tested enough, and had a ripple effect through the entire gameplay. Players bumping into each other made plays super slow to initiate to the point that there's a huge amount of 3 second violations caused when your player can't get through the paint, and it made the poor transition defense issue even worse as big men trying to sprint back on D constantly bump off both teammates and opposing players leading to the other team's bigs getting easy fastbreak dunks.
Play Now Online matchmaking which worked fine last year is completely broken, illegal screens which were called properly last year barely even occur, Pro Am is a 3 point spam fest that is nearly impossible to get all your teammates in the same game, buttons randomly become unresponsive and your players start stumbling all over the place for no reason, the shot clock timer is next to silent... I could go on for hours.
It's one thing for people to praise the positives of the current game, which is fine, but ignoring the flaws and letting the devs "get away with it" without bringing them to light is counter productive too IMO.

Re: What 2kSport told us we could expect from NBA 2k17. Did they deliver?
I don't think the devs are trying to get away with anything. Why would they do that? I think we vilify the devs a little too much, as if they are purposely going out of their way to ruin the game. There's no evidence if that at all. We need to stop this because its toxic and serves no purpose

He means there are some people who look completely past any flaws and legacy issues the game still might have, while giving the team a pass to "get away with" not fixing cheese, or any fundamental basketball issues.
There are definitely some people who want to vilify the devs, and there are some people who want to discuss the flaws in the game in a constructive manner while not pretending everything is okay because they love the series.

Re: What 2kSport told us we could expect from NBA 2k17. Did they deliver?
This game is so animation heavy!
2k claimed they wanted to respect the users input 100% of the time.
I'm constantly heading in directions that I'm not trying to go!
Constantly getting sucked back in the paint when I'm pressing the opposite direction!
And defense?
I never feel like I'm under total control on defense. I feel like it's a constant fight for control of my player.
Even with defensive assist strength at 0, boxout assist strength at 0, and automatic shot contest on manual, I'm still pulled in all directions!
If stand still and don't even have my hands on the controller and someone does a dribble move near me, my player will move.
I got my ankles broke once just chasing my man to the paint! I didn't even know that I ran by a guy that was dribbling!
Respecting the users input 100% of the time huh?Last edited by awg811; 12-31-2016, 03:52 PM.Comment

I think one of the main things that really annoys me is the big gaming review sites that give the game to some dude who has never watched basketball in his life to play 2 hours of MyCareer and who gives it a 9.5 out of 10 without ever mentioning anything like issues that remain from previous games, bugs, server issues, poor AI, broken matchmaking, the incredibly prevalent BUY VC aspect, etc.
All you hear about in these is things like "best commentary in any sports game!", "graphics look incredibly lifelike!" etc which granted are true, but are just window dressing if core gameplay mechanics are either poorly implemented or don't work at all.Comment

Re: What 2kSport told us we could expect from NBA 2k17. Did they deliver?
I will just say I applaud you for the right up and that I am a basketball fanatic. If I say anything more I may get banned for a 3rd time. This thread will not slide.
2k sports makes the best basketball games at the moment so it is what it is. If EA Sports were to make a huge stride this year then.....Jersey!!
If Trump can win, then maybe.....
Remember when 2k6 was on PS2 and Xbox and then the Xbox 360 was released with an exact duplicate of the Xbox version in HD? The very next year 2k7 was the true console jump we were waiting for. Are 2k13,14,15,16 and 17 all built off the same engine or system or whatever it's called? Where's the jump?
I like OS a lot. Please don't ban me for this post.Playing NBA 2K feels like a job that pays minimum wage and then cuts your pay when you get your Bill's right to make it even harder to succeed. I do not like this game but it's the only one in town.
At cheese, I'm trash. At basketball, I'm great!

Re: What 2kSport told us we could expect from NBA 2k17. Did they deliver?
Absolutely not..this game has been the worst for me when it comes to 2K..ever.
- For starters, their pre-order incentive was a mess, took a month in a half for them to fix it (so pre-order was useless)
- They also took a long time to give us the official NBA rosters, which should be done the first week.
- Still no yeezys lol
- MyPark After Dark is a mess, promised better servers..clearly not
- MyCareer is very boring for someone like me who doesn't play MyPark (why should offline guys get punished for online guys)
- Can't enjoy Play Now Online cause of delay lag
This game has been a mess from the start, their support has been bad too. Took them weeks to even acknowledge that their was a problem (ex. dream team issue, officials roster issue).
It's clear that their focus has been only on MyTeam this year, it is their biggest money maker so I don't blame them.HeyComment

You do know that there's no accountability. Just because a bunch of anonymous people on a website forum can't talk directly to them doesn't mean they aren't aware of thingsComment

Re: What 2kSport told us we could expect from NBA 2k17. Did they deliver?
People aren't pretending things are ok. Its a videogame. There's no way there aren't going to be flaws and making everyone happy is never going to happen. Some of us choose not to be so grim though. I enjoy the game flaws and all. Like I said, there will be more 2ks. So if I look at 2k17 as compared to the first 2k, I know there will be improvements. Stop thinking we don't all see the flaws. We are beat over the heas with every flaw, everyday on these boards, so I'm well aware of all of them. I just don't go in nauseam about them every thread.
It's counter productive. I'm happy you're enjoying the game, hell, I enjoy it myself because it's NBA basketball so I play it.
But this is a thread for people to discuss their opinions on if the game delivered for them or not. A lot of the discussion in here has been negative, but constructive. People aren't telling you to stop being so positive about the game. Want to know why? It doesn't affect anyone else's lives or enjoyment of the game.
If you don't like seeing the negativity, avoid the negative threads. It is quite annoying to see all the agenda posting and blatant bashing, but once you weed through all of that, there's some great discussion by some great posters about the issues in this game. We're not just going to stop talking about them, or coming up with solutions because we've been talking about them for months, that's not how it works. Once people Stop talking about them, and stop caring is how we get complacent and learn to except things that shouldn't be.Comment

So why go into threads where you know only negatives are being discussed, just to get people to stop talking about the negative issues in the game?

Re: What 2kSport told us we could expect from NBA 2k17. Did they deliver?
We get dev interaction on these boards thankfully. These devs read ALOT of what we post, and they're smart enough to comb through the trolls and see what's constructive and what's not.
So while some of us may be beating a dead horse when all we do is talk about defense, what's wrong with it, why's it so bad and how it can be improved, is because we know the devs frequent here and see what we write.
Hell, shortly after launch, Mike Wang worked with a few of us and got the game to be a more Sim feel, until Twitter got their hands on him. All I'm saying is, a lot of our complaining and criticizing can go a long way to being a good thing.

I definitely get where you're coming from, I really do. I see the same posters everyday posting with an agenda, trolling, etc. Those are the ones I ignore. But when there are guys having a legitimate discussion about the flaws in the game, whether they're beating a dead horse or not, it's always best to have these discussions.
