In NBA 2K17, feathering LS is not option, and the problem is compounded when the stupid defensive assistance kicks in and tries to pulls you in a certain direction.
And this is the problem in my opinion. Again as a I stated earlier, for the amount of AI instructions, the animations are far far behind.

Also (as someone just mentioned), it could be as simple as the offensive badges forcing defensive players into unnecessary animations, therefore causing a constant state of chaos with the defensive AI when it comes to positioning. In NBA 2K11, the AI rotated as I would expect them to. It wasn't perfect, but it was better than the current gen.
From what I have seen playing with rosters, adjusting the team defensive settings to more realistic settings tends to alleviate the odd situations like you just described with Curry and McGee. I think what is happening is incorrectly set double teaming rules are kicking in and over riding logic.

This is also part of the problem with Pick and Roll defense; if left to Auto, your AI team mate will decide on his own whether to Follow,Hedge,Ice or Trap. The problem here for the human user is both that the setting sometimes over rides common sense, and also that the human player has to make 2 split second reads to figure out which tactic the AI has adopted and adjust(in contrast to actual NBA where players would know this before hand).

Defensive animations are a whole different can of worms. From what I can see, the defensive IQ attributes are pretty much RNG, what they do is reduce the chance that your player will get an undesirable defensive animation(auto stumble, blow by,etc.) when you move the stick. They also reduce the chance of the offensive player getting a favorable blow by type animation if they make contact with the defender.Higher IQ also seems to somewhat reduce the "unwanted pulling" effect as well.

Certain offensive badges definitely increase the chance of forced unfavorable defensive animations unless you have the corresponding (or greater) Defensive Stopper badge.IMO, this is certainly is a contributing factor to some of the odd defensive positioning.

Other offensive badges tend have a stacking effect on shot percentage which I believe is a major factor in the "contested shots go in too much" issue that many people mention.

IMO this was a better system as you had to be more strategic in what you wanted to be "special" at,instead of now where even average players get some sort of bonus at 20+ things. IMO it has gotten to where the badges have significantly skewed gameplay in unfavorable directions.

        Nobody had badges in 2K11.

I had forgotten that, it's been about 5 years since I played 2K11 regularly.

What you're seeing in 2K11 then is more of an impartial "ratings on ratings" action, without any bonuses skewing things either way.

Granted it's not the only factor at play; however I can say I have tried removing or toning down badges as an experiment and when I have, 2K17 plays alot more similar to the 2K11 clips we've seen.

I liked 2K12 until I put up 50 with Boozer on post ups and realized the double teaming was broken.

Then I realized 2K11 had the edge on it.

I can't believe we have seen the day where nba 2k is in the same boat as madden. Fans citing decade old versions of the game as being superior. I can tell you that no one was pining for nba 2k2 during NBA 2k11. I love 2k11 but there's something depressing about this.

The only thing depressing is the fact the people look at the past with rose colored glasses and not reality, in 2017 we demand more from a video game than we demanded in 2010.

or maybe we are used to higher Standards from Video games we had in 2010. remember the great. community Homepage where you had live Tickers of your online league and Stats, standings and Whatever you liked? you could even upload Highlights of the game to the Homepage and it was shown in the games boxscore.

Back when calling a pnr didn't mean half the players on offense would be wide open

The settings are set to double Curry off of the pick and roll. No awareness. No urgency. The hedge man isn't even aware of what's going on. The defensive logic is also awful as well, since after I switch off to Matt Barnes and Curry uses the screen, they tell me that I'm supposed to be guarding Curry.

My strategy was to let the CPU double Curry off the pick and roll, control Draymond's man and use him to defend the roll man and let Draymond shoot threes. Now apparently I'm supposed to use Draymond's man to guard Curry which will leave Draymond wide open under the paint? LOL.

This stuff is the reason 17 and 18 played so bad compared to previous ones online. I remember in 2k11-13, you could use the worst team in the league and beat people using the Heat/Lakers etc because you knew how to play basketball. There was no relying on the CPU to mess up to get easy buckets.

Back then the only cheese we had to worry about came directly from the user (i.e. hop step spam, spin dunk spam) but that stuff was deaded once you learned how to stop it. You can't stop people from abusing how dumb your teammates are on defense this year (even if/when you change your defensive settings)

AI is the main issue. AI should not get dumber on next gen tech .

This statement here is just complete BS. The AI did not get dumber you want players to play like themselve but can't accept that some players are slower, bad passers, dont jump as high, bad rebounders, bad shot blockers or simply bad defensively, you have to take the good with the bad as we continue to move toward hyper realism not every team should play like the Spurs or Celtics, when you play with a team like the Cavs you should expect you will be playing with a disadvantage defensively.
