Re: NBA 2K18 AI Improvements Blog From Scott O’Gallagher
Does the offensive CPU AI have the awareness if guarded like this with weak side tag man responsibilities? Like do they have a offensive counter or maybe a play that the player lifts up from the corner shooter away from the tag man for throw back situations?I disagree. This happens all the time in these situations. This is a high PnR. If you can't "Tag" from the weak side he can take this depth to the strong side low post on a below average shooter. If the ball get's pushed to that side, he will tighten up. If the ball is moved from the top, he's moving immediately to a "short" close out. This limits the down hill effectiveness. With the perception improvements, you will see the defense much more responsive.Basketball Playbooks

You guys are killing me with this blog! As a MyLeauge exclusive player, seeing how this all ties in with system fit, tendencies and everything like that is bringing me SUCH joy. I mean holy crap, team building actually means something this year and it's the most excited I've ever been for a 2K game.
There was no rhyme or reason to signing free agents and making trades in past years, it was just get the best players and go out there and play. Utilizing strategy when it comes to obtaining players and coaches is something Iv'e wanted forever. I can't wait until this gets expanded on in future versions.
It also looks like no more brick wall defense. I feel like that was such a crutch in 2K17 because there weren't proper rotations, assignments, etc. It seems like each player has their own individual defensive intelligence to go along with the scheme. Bravo, guys. Keep building on this ACE system. What you're doing over there is legendary.Comment

With all the hard work put in here, proper player positioning, rotations etc. The defensive bump/stone walling can finally stay gone for good.
Real basketball should lead to lanes being given/taken, but team defenses reacting as such. So as Gosens6 said so well - the brick wall "crutch" is no longer necessary.
Seeing the on ball defender angle (in the Redick/Beal clip) is what we should be seeing.
If I abuse the lane all night with Russ, I should be penalized by heavy fatigue when I'm constantly clobbered at the basket, or have a POOR shooting % from bad shots in traffic/forces.
Hopefully this stays the case "no patching". But the team schemes, rotations essentially means the brick wall crutch isn't needed.... which essentially means dribble/drive freedom.
Very exciting.Comment

Appreciate, that! We feel like it's the best in sports gaming. Does it mean it's perfect? hell no. lol. There's sooooooooo much more that we would love to do. The big thing is, no different from your real life hoop game, is to improve year after year. There will be some things people don't like this year as well, we will look at them, address where needed and get better. You guys are killing me with this blog! still true.Mike wang told us last year you could turn the difficulty to HOF. Adjust sliders from there and you'd get full ace. It was a nugget buried on the forums that only a few of us saw. It explains why many of us who saw it came away with a more positive experience with the Ai.Comment

Whoa - this thread had Czar, OG, Mike and LD all drop by at some point...... see what happens when the AI blogs drop!

I'm curious about 2K17's misfires personally. I feel like 2K16 was solid in certain areas, 2K18 is looking incredible..... but 2K17 slipped back in the wrong direction IMO (in terms of team defensive PnR coverage, help etc.)
Just curious about it......Comment
