    Man this sound amazing!
I mean, honestly, by now the game surpasses my own limited understanding of basketball by leaps and bounds.

    Very well written OG!

If you could elaborate a bit about the practical ramifications of Coach grades and players system fit.

How does it manifest in game? I imagine it would have to be noticeable for the feature to have real impact.

    Thanks!

I heard a rumor that you are the new owner of the Clippers in MyGM this year. Any truth to that rumor?

No offense but we'll see what the gameplay is like once the game is released to see how it REALLY plays. Too many times we've seen gameplay from a game that's not how it's played once it's in the hands of a gamer. The game plays alot different when playing in different modes, more specifically and especially my career mode. I have no idea why that mode's gameplay is so different, even when taking into account you're locked into one player by the gamer surrounded by AI teammates. The AI teammates would do things that wouldn't make sense in relation to you or the opponent AI from a basketball standpoint.

We've been told various times that certain things have been curtailed or taken out, like the shot clock cheese, which I've pretty much given up on being fixed outside of double teaming the player taking the shot.

Other things like the opponent AI just being able to do things you can't, like being able to dribble and pass through your body or a crowd without ever losing the ball and score. I get that a game can't be per se "glitch-free" but those things are way too one sided in favor of the opponent CPU while your always and instantly punished the moment you do something too close to the opponent. Teammate AIs since in my player/ my career outright refusing to guard their man by either running short in mid stride to LITERALLY watch his man shoot the shot when he could've ran all the way to try to contest. Or my favorite, being close enough to contest the shot but won't jump to do so only after the shot has gone in the basket.

Not trying to be negative but these are things that players complain about the most but, to my knowledge and experience, are never fixed. And this has been going on for YEARS .I wouldn't go on a lengthy rant like this for something minor or subtle. These are overt issues that are never addressed. The gameplay always looks nice but the reality of it's actual gameplay is, to me at least, considerably different from what's being shown. I'm hoping for the best and your success, but you can't blame me and other players for being skeptical of these things that have persisted for years in 2K basketball to be fixed. I know I'll get alot of flack for this but it has to be said by someone, if not already thru close to 30 pages of comments.

This is where we needed to inject some more authenticity to the game because in the NBA, that setting can have multiple distances and responsibilities depending on the situation. In 2K18, your positioning setting is more important than ever!

Here is side pick and roll action by the Lakers. Notice how Harkless is dropping even further than his initial “one pass away” gap distance because of his understanding of the shooter’s abilities and game situation.

Sorry, but does this mean, that AI overrides my defensive settings if they think they are bad? If i want to deny bad shooters, I want the AI to do just that. If I want to leave a gap, even on Steph Curry, let me do that!

Just re-read and didn't notice Memphis icing pick and rolls.

OG that has been exploited in the past by using a pop big (Dirk, KP, KAT) as the screener.

Does the AI rotate a 3rd defender out to that pop guy (it would be Parsons in your video) if he's a threat to nail 15-25 feet shots off the pick and pop?

                Good question. If so, I'm hoping it plays out like so;

                1. Team base scheme in effect
                2. Dirk makes them pay once or maybe twice in said scenario
                3. Grizz call timeout (2K AI making ACE adjustment)
                4. 3rd defender (Parsons) now rotating to cause you to consider a new strategy

And then the worse the coach, the longer this adjustment takes to happen. And further to this, the worse the personnel, the longer it takes for the players to actually execute it.

Wow this blog is CONFIDENT! You don't write that much and include videos unless you really believe in the product this year. I'm hyped.

Sidenote, but that iso Melo animation looked mint.

Love the "system match" element of MyLeague. It really is a huge pivotal element in the real NBA. I wonder if players will have a new ambition now? They already have 'financial' ambition, and "play for winner", and loyalty, i wonder if "system match" can be an element that players consider? They definitely do strongly consider that element when choosing a team to sign with.

i do think that some peoples expectations are that everything we talk about in a blog will operate perfectly in every scenario though. That is why I am always reminding people that this is in fact a video-game.

The more complexity we add the more variables there are. If we had a game with only a 3 out freelance and a 4 out freelance and 300 plays and just base defensive schemes the end product would be so much easier to control.

But that would probably be a boring game to play in comparison to what we delivered.

So all of this nuance you guys are always requesting, the difficulty in ensuring that works as designed when you have as many variations as we do goes up exponentially.

There are valid reasons why no one is trying to match what we are attempting to bring to the table.

It is high risk and low reward and more ways to fail than succeed. OG by far has the toughest assignment in the business.

Or AllStar Break to the Season End he has 2 stars, but once he enters the playoffs, he jumps to 2 1/2 or 3 stars. Or does his rating stay what he initially received?
