Except that the time out menu for defensive tactics includes things not available to users in the pause-settings screen. Neither have there been any actual explanations from 2k about what the in game options on defense actually do. How do they translate to team defensive actions if you were to try to replicate them during the pause-settings? We have no clue. I asked repeatedly last year and no response.
Do we know if we would rather have the option to deploy some of those defensive schemes and tactics as users, beyond what's available during pause-setting? No we don't, because we have no details about what they do. Maybe we would want them if the in game defensive user options and controls actually worked as intended and designed.
So it might actually be a real loss to the user as a gameplay experience not to be able to use those on the fly/time out defensive controls, even offline. We don't know and no one at 2K seems to want to describe what OG put in the game to this level.
Maybe when people have the game we'll know more, but right now I don't think we can make your claim "Its not a major hassle for offliners" with confidence.
