Re: NBA 2k18 Pro-Am Discussion Thread
Myself and two friends created a Pro Am team earlier this week (11-2), with one loss coming due to a connection error dropping two of us pre-game and the other to an elite team who abused our AI players. Overall we are a solid team (91 C, 90 SG, 89 SF), we play intelligently, move well off ball, pass and play defense. Not looking for ball stoppers or anyone that thinks they are bigger than the team and worried about individual stats. We are looking for a couple more players to give us a full team (ideally a pg and/or a pf who can space the floor) but open to anyone who wants to play team ball and is fundamentally sound. We play daily (usually nights), message me if interested! PSN: Ant-Brown_24Comment

Re: NBA 2k18 Pro-Am Discussion Thread
If you're playing a team that has more than 2 sharpshooters, knows how to exploit, and you're running with an AI? Might as well call it a GG. I don't usually run with less than 5 but my point here stays the same...
I wish that they would do away with giving everybody mud feet unless they have a defensive archetype....or that offensive players can't move and cut with FAR more superior agility than defensive players. I guess this is one of the defensive archetype's significant advantages (And we know they don't have too many) but I really feel like giving everyone else Boban feet isn't the way to go. My 6'11 C with a defensive type glides around much quicker than my 6'4 guards. Eh???
Just played a team last night that did nothing but criss-cross non-sense at the top of the key. Even when we have 5 and communicate well, the same problems can happen on occasion. It's annoying when I KNOW what they're doing and where they are going, yet they can simply get to spots much faster. But I can tell my guy to change direction and it seemingly takes a second before he moves. And if I happen to just lightly bump someone along the way? Nah, wide open green light shot is coming.
Seems like the best angle to play these guys is to literally play over the top of them, like chasing them from behind in the limitless range area. Because running anywhere near somebody is just asking for trouble. Playing in front of them (even if you are tight and switching) can be problematic. If I tell my player to navigate around it's hard to make small changes of direction because of slow feet.
I don't have any great solutions, really. With the current system in place, defensive archetypes have to have something to make it worth picking, and raising the defensive quickness for everyone else would diminish its value. I feel like it could work if they made lateral quickness quicker globally, and gave defensive types more to work with on offense, such as a higher standing mid-range or 3 point shot. Their badges are already pretty good, and I think everybody else should be punished more often when going for steals on the ball.
I know a lot of this seemed like bitching, next time I'll post videos and gifs (If I figure out how)Last edited by ph33; 01-06-2018, 04:17 PM.Comment

If you put defense primary you offense is lowered a ton. If you put Pure defense your offense is almost nonexistent. Wish I could create a Kawhi or PG13 build.
Your build becomes much more like those guys at 99 which is almost impossible for majority of us. I have to hit 99 to truly maximize my build. That sucks man lol.Last edited by Rockie_Fresh88; 01-06-2018, 11:17 PM.#1 Laker fan

Re: NBA 2k18 Pro-Am Discussion Thread
I'm looking for similar minded teammates who play good, fundamental basketball. I feel like whenever I play with randoms everyone is just running around like headless chickens and chucking up dumb shots. I would love to play with guys who knew about proper floor spacing, looked for mismatches, set off-ball screens, communicate and help each other on D etc. Maybe even eventually run set plays and develop a freelance offense while also doing practices/scrimmages. Basically looking for 4 other high IQ coaches on the floor to pick everyone apart with.
My PSN is nWoElRey so hit me up here or there or drop a comment below if interested. I currently have a 90 OVR SF with Shot Creating Primary and Slashing Secondary and a 88 OVR PG with Playmaking Primary and Shot Creating Secondary I can use interchangeably depending on what works best for the team. Preferably looking for at least 1 Stretch Big and 1 Sharpshooter at PG/SG with my SF or SG/SF with my PG because my drive and kick game is LETHAL.Comment

Re: NBA 2k18 Pro-Am Discussion Thread
Unfortunately the drive&kick game in pro am is pretty useless against experienced and disciplined teams because nobody will leave a shooter for helping on the driver.
They know too well that it will be an almost automatic 3 pointer, so they prefer to give you the lay up.Comment

What he said. This pretty much makes the Pure Shooter archetype a lot less effective now. Nobody will give shooters enough breathing room to get a shot off nowadays especially if you're playing good comp. Add some wraps or off ball screens in the mix and might be ok. Driving and Kicking is almost dead now though.Unfortunately the drive&kick game in pro am is pretty useless against experienced and disciplined teams because nobody will leave a shooter for helping on the driver.

Updating an earlier post we are now 18-2 and still looking for players if anyone is interested. I have a 6'8" Pure Point Forward (89 OVR) with HOF dimer. I know you were looking a PG before; not sure if this fits your mold or not. We can all play a walk-on game to test it out first.
PSN - Kriech23 add me and shoot me a message (have a mic). Normally on most nights EST time zone.Comment

Exactly, basically it can be still very effective against rookie teams overreacting to a drive or just bad at D, or againts teams with one or more AI players, that will rotate to the driver 100% of the times)Comment

Which is good for floor spacing because it opens up the paint for everybody if the defense over plays shooters. Plus I'll try to implement off-ball screens and run set plays to get shooters open.Unfortunately the drive&kick game in pro am is pretty useless against experienced and disciplined teams because nobody will leave a shooter for helping on the driver.
