    Re: NBA 2k18 Impressions Thread

5 games in SS settings game is harder than 2k17 on HOF against the CPU at launch. I try to use the same teams to see how well the CPU will shoot with certain players over a larger sample

I think the CPU shooting consistency is too high for average players. I feel like I cant expose the bad shooters

Embiid is so nice this year. The control on pull ups and step backs are so nice

      Big time bummed.
Get used to it, same thing happened on last gen. I think from 2K11 and on you would only see reflections in the paint. Also, notice how white (home) uniforms/shoes somewhat reflect, but darker uniforms/shoes barely show any reflection.

Going by last gen, it will probably get worse the next few titles.

I like the new descriptions for defensive settings. We needed this for a long time

I'm not big on talking about worst and best ever etc on day 1 or even month 1 but there isn't a version of 2K17 better than this game right now..

That says a lot about how I felt about 2K17

but it also speaks to how good this game is...

Mike completely backed his blog words up about opening movement up and moving away from animations determining out comes....I hate clipping as much as the next man but I am willing to ride this wave will they work that out....

Yeah that is exactly what really popped off the screen for me and how I felt with the controller in my hand.

Player movement is simply off the hook this year. I feel in so much more control.

            Like I did on 2K11.

            That's all for now.

Feels so good to not get stuck in animations. Enjoying the game, hope it's not significantly altered through patches. They need to do a better job with arena lighting and colors. Just seems so flat. Especially the court.
It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

I have a lot of complaints about the game but none of them are gameplay. On the court I think this plays as well as any basketball game ever. The weight of players combined with the responsiveness is incredible. I really can't think of a sports game that feels better. Having said that some of the art feels lacking. No player portraits for rookies/free agents, missing jerseys, outdated hair styles etc. Add to that the issues with draft classes and the cap system and I'm not sure how to rate this.

Gameplay is solid. Some clipping issues. My biggest gripe is it doesn't look very next gen. 2k got my hopes up with some early screens, but it looks pretty meh. I have a ps4 pro, but not 4K tv. I was going to buy 4K tv specifically for this game and FIFA, but now I'm not so sure. Has anyone played in 4K, and seen a noticeable difference?

I've only played the Prelude so far but that's what I have noticed as well. Some animations, especially two player interactions, might not look as good as past years but the feel and control is a lot better. And that's not to say animations are bad, game still looks good in motion. I also haven't really encountered situations where I feel like I'm slave to the animation or interaction. Still early of course. We'll see what happens weeks after release.

Still not enough fouls on jump shots. When will they ever get it right.

                        First off.

The gameplay speed is sluggish. Obviously toned down so that online play doesnt feel like a boost/cheese fest

                        Second.
Shooting and how players animations look releasing the ball. Its almost as if the timing makes for the games animations to be not in sync.

                        3rd.
The game's lighting is dark. Playing on xbox one s about to try pc soon ONCE it downloads (YIKES!)

                        4rth.
Player models still not that great. They can be made better by adjusting their heights in the roster editor but thats alot of trial and error but doable just more work which leads me to believ they just wanted face scans to be right nothing else rush job

                        5th.
Player and defender interactions. Last year off the ball and screens looked just better. Again this is out of the box PRO difficulty

                        6th.
Player likeness. As far as sucess rates. Again been toned down not for realism to actual nba stats but for online play so that ppl dont cheese one another.

That a quick few i got editing to do LOL
A lot of this actually makes me excited. Past games seemed to focus too much on how great the animations were that the control and responsiveness suffered. I'd rather have choppy animations with better control over my player than vice versa. Slower gameplay is good for me too. Maybe there is hope for a bball game for me this year. I have to watch out for the "honeymoon phase" though as every single year people post in this thread claiming it's the greatest basketball game ever, then 2 months later all it is is people complaining about how the game is broken.

Regardless of that, I still try every version and have always ended up being disappointed that the game is almost playing itself without my control. Animations take over and I can't do what I want my player to do because he's stuck in animations because it looks better. I think a lot of people would agree with me that 2K8 was one of the two most amazing bball games over the past 10 years. Why? Well, for me it was because what I pressed on my controller was reflected on the screen. That hasn't happened since. 2K11 was decent, but not as good. A man shouldn't have to go a decade before enjoying a good sports game.

I think like all games, sacrifices have to be made when new features are added. Example: GTA V was the biggest, most detailed map in the franchise. Downside was limited player customization, changed physics, limited interior locations and missing features that were in past games. There's a video on Youtube called GTA IV is better than GTA V showcasing this.
