Man people use the "broken" term so loosely. Anything that doesn't work 100% as we want is apparently broken. Layups might need a little adjustment but it's far from broken. Broken would be layup animations not triggering when they are suppose to or players missing every layup.
I do think layup balancing is something that we won't ever 100% agree about. It's one of the things I hate when it comes to "sim" arguments because we all have different perceptions about what is sim and realistic. If they put layup success too high then people will be complaining about layups being automatic, which was an issue when the Live demo dropped and too many contested layups and inside shots were going in.
I'd be cool with them adjusting layups a TINY bit, maybe adjust what qualifies as contested, but, IMO, it's far from "broken" or a glaring issue that ruins the experience. What I like about the game from my experience is that it rewards taking good shots vs bad shots. Now you will still miss open jumpers from time to time and hit heavily contested jumpshot (it happens in real life) but generally speaking you want to play smart basketball and make smart decisions. If it gets too easy to score inside then all you will have to do is pound the paint all game long.
