Re: NBA 2K18 - Trade Discussion Thread

So I have a question... I'm in the offseason and LeBron is most likely gonna opt in... I'm trying to make a push to stay competitive... We have the 6th pick from Brooklyn... I'm thinking:

Cleveland: 6th pick, George Hill and J.R. Smith (expiring contract)
    Charlotte: Kemba and Nic Batum

I feel like that's a pretty fair trade imo... we get rid of a couple of players that aren't gonna help us much (J.R. Smith in particular who is being made expendable by Rodney Hood who I intend on extending in the offseason) a pick that doesn't mean much for us in the short term... for Kemba is a clear upgrade at the point, Nic Batum a wing player that we can use to help take the pressure off of lebron guarding KD and more importantly the Hornets get another pick to finally help them with a rebuild

That's pretty close to fair. If I were the Hornets, giving up my franchise star to a conference rival (technically), I'd want some youth -- Osman perhaps? Two expirings and that 6th pick is pretty fair otherwise.

Then again, considering how they traded Dwight for Mosgov and a longer deal, your trade is probably exactly what they'd take without any issue. So it's up to you really how you feel.

Charlotte has the 9th pick as well... I figure that makes up for Osman I think having 2 top ten picks... I could add Osman however to clear up some room on the wing since I'd have Batum, Hood and Clarkson... Then I can focus on finding a getting a good backup PG and a backup 4... I'm thinking of moving Bron to the 4 full-time and see if I can get a true rim protector to cover for Bron...

My biggest question is what's Kevin Love's trade value? Would I need to set up a three team trade? And if so how should I go about it... Maybe I could swing a guy like DeAndre Jordan in a three team trade... I could use some ideas

Hmm. Love's statistical output has suffered since coming to Cleveland but, every couple of games, you see the classic Minnesota K-Love; the board eating, post scoring, offensive terror that he was back when he was the primary guy. Love has proven he can sacrifice his stats and pride to be part of a title winning team, but his cap hit is not kind for a 3rd wheel star (which he was originally before Kyrie left) and his statistical output the past year was not great for a 2nd star either.

Add in his so-so health (he's only played in 59 and 60 games the last two years, which seems to signal he's breaking down some) and it's a bit dicey.

The popular rumor for Love has always been the Suns; Phoenix uniquely values stretch shooting bigs and Love could rediscover his previous form there with them (assuming they don't draft a player like Love -- you'll have to figure out how he works out with their projected pick).

I could see the Suns punting on either Bender/Chriss+Chandler (rim-protecting big with limited offensive skills, but he'd be great to clean up after LeBron), and maybe another piece to make it work out for salary. It's not an overwhelming offer, but Love's trade value is weird.

The Clippers are a decent idea, Love being an LA native automatically makes it more likely he'll re-up with them and getting Love for Jordan in a straight swap is much easier to navigate cap-wise; LAC could roll out a lineup of Beverly/Bradley/Harris/Love+Boban (or a better free agent acquisition) and probably make the playoffs in the 5-8 seed range. The Clippers would be hesitant buying another injury-ish prone PF, but Love's range and his ability to dominate the paint would play into Doc Rivers' offense strength (which has never been particularly free-flowing minus the near-automatic Ray Allen Horns play).

Another possibility could be the Heat. Miami has Whiteside and Bam, but Bam's clearly the future at the five and Whiteside's attitude and discontent this season makes him another easy 1 to 1 swap; the Heat would deploy Dragic/Waiters/Johnson/Love/Bam as a playoff contender in the East ... but, they only have their own draft picks for 2019 and 2020 before that unprotected 2021 conveys, so it's in Miami's interest NOT to make the playoffs in the next two seasons and stock up on young talent.

Miami could be a player in a three-team trade -- Love to the Suns, Whiteside to Cleveland, and Heat receive Chriss+Chandler+salary filler; they'll get a young (and disappointing so far) prospect in either Chriss or Bender (or both if you feel that works better) and Phoenix gets a legit All-star to pair next to Booker+Jackson, while Cleveland gets Whiteside who could thrive next to LeBron (as LeBron will stretch the floor and draw huge amounts of attention).

            My thoughts.

I like that three team trade with the heat and Suns... I don't need a center that scores... I have plenty of that with Bron, Hood (who I'm thinking of having come off the bench to play minutes at the 2 and 3), Walker and Clarkson... Trading Hill for a younger albeit worse defender in Walker and having Bron at the 4 means I sacrifice a lot of defense and this team barely had any to begin with... And Bron is our best rim protector at this point... I need defense and a rebounder and I'd rather not play a combo of love, Nance AND Thompson at the 5... All of those guys are undersized and pretty bad defenders and rim protectors... Whiteside could definitely use a change of scenery... His health would be in question but hell Love is more Helter skelter when it comes to his health at this point... Thanks for the suggestion

Not a problem, I enjoy spitballing trade ideas. With how wacky the NBA has gotten in recent years, nothing is impossible anymore in the league.

I'm playing retro 2010/11 season with Blazers. This is the roster they played with https://www.basketball-reference.com...010260POR.html

Plus Oden who is healthy (so far) in MyLeague and protecting that paint like a madman.

My backup PF (Babitt is backing up LMA) is bad so could use a player there. I have few expiring contracts like Pryzbilla at 12mil. Maybe someone like Frye, Antwan Jamison, a stretch 4 that is better than Babbitt. Am willing to trade anyone except Miller, Roy, Matthews, LMA, Oden, Mills and Rudy Fernandez. So that's Batum, Pryzbilla, Dante Cunningham, Armon Jones, Babbitt.

Note - all contracts are 2x their size because the cap is 2x the size. Roster is made using SonicMage ratings.

I like those first two suggestions of Jamison or Fyre. Jamison might be more useful than Fyre (he can play 3 or 4) but he also costs twice as much (as his salary that year was 15M, so double that is 30M) and he's got another year at that price the following season, so he might be too steep.

Fyre is only making 5M IRL, so 10M in 2K contract, and he's a bench player so he could be had for less -- an expiring like Pyrzbilla plus a second or maybe Babbit (he was a decent shooter from what I remember) probably makes the math work.

Jamison and Frye are both injured so cannot trade for them, ATM. Tho I was presented with this trade via Trade Finder

Bobcats: Diaw + 2013 draft pick top3 protected
                      Blazers: Pryzbilla + Batum

Basically a young all-arounder in Batum + filler for 28yrs old Diaw + possibly a lottery pick

                      A second option would be

Hornets: Peđa Stojaković, Jason Smith, Mensah-Bonsu
Blazers: Camby, Armon Johnson, Babbitt, Cunningham, 2014 2nd rounder unprotected via MIAMI

IMO, this would be better. They get Camby at the center spot (Aaron Gray was their backup behind Okafor) albeit at a longer contract and I get a perfect player.

This was the trade that removed Peđa from Hornets in 2010 IRL

2x dead weight+Jarrett Jack for him + Bayless who's worse version of Jack.

Man, I forgot all about Peja -- he's certainly what you're looking for as a stretch 4 veteran and doesn't require you to dump Batum.

But -- depending on how long you plan to play your franchise -- that 2013 Bobcats pick looks delicious. That could convey right in the middle of the lottery and knowing who's in that draft class (I believe the Greek Freak is of that class), you could snag a really good player to develop into your next super-star.

The Bobcats were pretty damn short-sighted at this time but the 2013 draft is pretty shallow outside about 7-10 guys. Would be a roll of the dice, but I also like Diaw a lot (underrated bench big, IMO). Peja's injury history would worry me too and I hate giving up Camby, he didn't get nearly the appreciation he deserved during his day.

Both good trades, your call as to which to go with.

Decided to go with the second trade. I cannot rely on the health of Roy and Oden to carry all the way into 2013+. So far so good. Also dumping Camby's 40/2 contract was massive for me since both LMA and Oden are better at the 5 spot than him. Diaw is definitely on my watch list for next FA.

Also signed Rodriguez from FA list and Bjelica and sent Bjelica to G-League. Was drafted in 2010 but was never signed until 2015. So right now got a solid 11 man rotation

PG: Andre Miller/ Sergio Rodriguez (drafted by POR in 2006) / Patty Mills
SG: Wes Matthews / Rudy Fernandez
                          SF: Brandon Roy / Batum
                          PF: LMA/Peđa
                          C: Oden/ Jason Smith

I could get a better at the center spot. Wanted to snatch Whiteside but Kings didn't want to play ball. So still looking for that C for 4-8 mins per game in regular season. Will shorten the lineup to 8 (Patty, Smith and Rudy will not play in playoffs if everyone else is healthy).
