I don't think they're going downhill just yet.
Have they released the Fifa 18 sales numbers? (I didn't look too hard but never saw them)

    FWIW:

FIFA 17: 10.8 million copies sold
Madden 17: 3.17 million copies sold

Madden 18: 1.06 million copies sold

EA is fine, this doesn't even include sales of their non sports games.

I'm not enjoying this game as much. I do think it still provides a much more solid multiplayer product than Madden, which is why despite the fact I watch nothing but football and very little basketball - I still only play 2K and loathe Madden's lack of fundamentals.

I paid a little money and made like 7 or 8 players in 17 but I felt like it was worth it. IIRC I probably made enough VC through park and mycareer to probably pay for 2 of my MyPlayers to get to 88, but I enjoyed the game enough to go ahead and invest more money for a different experience because it was rewarding.

This year's experience has just been exhausting and I cannot possibly see myself grinding another character to a 90 ovr. Even if I paid the $50 to get to 85 I don't think I'd want to deal with that. It's taken long enough to get to 92.
This comment resonates the most with me. I mainly play PNO anyways, but I usually ended up with so much VC that it was easy for me to jump into MyCareer to dabble with 2-3 characters. 2K18...Christ....I'm about to be one and done.

I'm loving the phrase "time sink".....that sums up the experience for me. Love the game, but I'm REALLY not trying to spend that much time with it.

Part of the time sink stress is the prolonged redundancy of the actions that need to be spammed in order to level up your character.

This redundancy is what puts everyone in the hamster wheel because whether you spend money or not it will require the same action for everyone to grind their badges.

Changing the grind experience from a hamster wheel to something that triggers our creative intelligence can alone increase the fun factor.

Does the hamster wheel analogy make sense?
