This is a position-less era of basketball. The only way around it atm is to give them multiple positions. Only very short/tall players one position nowadays. (Isaiah Thomas, Shane Larkin, Steven Adams, etc.)

You can go to basketball reference and get actual positional totals for every player tho, I do agree they should add a 3rdary position in 2K19 for the players like Marcus smart, who play sg,sf & pg

I suggested this same thing on OS but there were people arguing against it 😒

Also, Kyrie and Rozier needs their secondary positions at SG. They sometimes play with each other or with Larkin on the court.

And Smart's 3 pt rating is still too high. I understand he's a tricky player to rate because he takes the dumbest shots and can hit a few when he's feeling it but he is shooting the worse of his career. Raise his playmaking abilities but drop that 3 pt rating. It's not fair to my opponents when I can nail threes consistently with him.
          OMG 64 Strength... He's a beast of a man

Yea... we might need a third one in there. Players are just playing waaay too many positions now. I wonder how the rules are coded for the second position. They would have to be different from the second

They need to add tertiary positions next year for guys like marcus smart, jayson tatum, Lebron, Ben simmons, etc.

All of those guys play 3+ positions on a consistent basis

Anybody else think it would be funny if 2k listed Ben Simmons something like:

              PG/PF/SF/SG

              or LeBron like

              SF/PF/PG/SG/C

I'm really happy to see Jokic get back up and Mudiay to get some love too.

Pistons finally got a boost! I wonder what tier their in now.

If anyone could give me Lonzo Ball ratings that would be nice?

I'm so happy for Tykere Evans. Good Health to you!!

Greek Freak went up!! I can't wait to get home and see what was boosted.

Sad to see Butler go down again

My was playing with the Knicks.... And man I can't telling him the game feels weird. Now I know why lol

                Donovan Mitchell has been rising!

I can't wait to get home and see what was boosted

                Nice jobs Bed.

Can anyone tell if the 2001-2002 Nets have updated at all?... I don't want to post anymore videos. Please don't make me have to lol

BBRef is definitely not 100% accurate with regard to their position data.

Take the following lineup for example
                  J. Crowder | L. James | K. Love | J. Smith | T. Thompson

BBRef will classify it as such
                  PG: J.R. Smith
                  SG: Jae Crowder
                  SF: LeBron James
                  PF: Kevin Love
                  C: Tristan Thompson

                  When in REALITY it was
                  PG: LeBron James
                  SG: J.R. Smith
                  SF: Jae Crowder
                  PF: Kevin Love
                  C: Tristan Thompson

As a result BBRef has 21% of Smith's minutes coming at PG. You can find similar instances where point-forwards throw their system out of whack. Anytime Evan Turner gets backup PG minutes they will give him "SG" minutes and bump the SG to PG, even if that SG isn't close to being a PG.

Even without point-forward instances there are still plenty of questionable ones. For example, on the Hawks they have Marco Belinelli getting SF minutes in any lineup he shares with Kent Bazemore (which we can tell is not the case by looking at their rebounding stats - Bazemore's rebound rate is up which indicates he is getting the SF minutes - whereas Belinelli's are as low as they've ever been)

I think their reasoning for doing this, if I remember the article where I read this correctly, is:

It's dictated by what position their guarding.

So in this instance, I would assume JR is guarding the opposing team's PG, Jae on the SG etc.

Point forwards, the Ben Simmons, LeBrons, Giannis' all entirely mess up a traditional 1-5 position now a days though, you're right. These guys can slot in at the classic PF position, yet take over the primary ball handling duties, facilitating and bringing it up the court.

A guy like lowry who adjusted his game to fit a new offense..coming off back to back seasons of great play is getting disrespected here.

They were slow to adjust his 3pt rating in the past. He gonna be a 70 by next week? Aha.

Anyone know if they touched any tendencies with this update? Its the tendencies and adjusting some teams style of play thru ACE that really needs adjusted the most.

The flaw in this practice is they aren't actually WATCHING the game to discern this information - they are merely assigning a position (basing it on Player Height/Weight). Bazemore and Belinelli are both 6'5" but since Marco has a "listed" weight 9 points higher they'll assign him the "bigger" position and assume he is matched with those players.

Nor are they consistent in it's application considering they have Ben Simmons at "PG" with Jerryd Bayless at SG, J.J. Redick at SF, and Robert Covington at PF.

A notable example is Quentin Richardson being listed at SG for the 2005 Suns. Despite their size difference, Joe Johnson was the starting SG and Q-Rich was the SF.

                              <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/tpX_ZjXmAmQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

                              We can clearly see:
                              1. Johnson listed as a starting guard.
                              2. Johnson matched up with Dwyane Wade

Yet the 2005 Suns per BBRef:
                              Q-Rich: 97% SG / 2% PG / 1% SF
                              Johnson: 74% SF / 26% PF

                              Word?

The reason why Q-Rich was a SF (despite smaller stature) was he was an excellent rebounder for his size and had more strength than quickness.

This isn't the only time Q-Rich would be misclassified either. They have him starting at SG for the Knicks when a young Wilson Chandler was starting there (adding to the "confusion", the versatile Chandler would go on to start at PF next to Danilo Gallinari).

BBR provides a solid guideline but I have 10 years experience ironing out their details.

                                Ok I'm disappointed right now.

Ben Simmons got a mid range boost for open shots?! He was a 55. Now he's a 75. You got to be kidding me right? Open 3's at 55. Maybe Rashid can make me feel better with some stats. But I'm sure this guy doesn't shoot. Worst of all his offense consistency is 90 now. Come on now. I love him. But he's not that good.

                                More in a few
