Too hard or too easy for that matter....it's just a matter of exploring your options....It's very customizable..

Luckily, we are on a site that a has a entire subsection dedicated to providing those options fof varying skill sets....

Play basketball man. You must be playing like a lil kid or something. Taking contested shots and throwing the ball all over the place.

Play P&R, swing the ball, defend, convert on the break, use your stars as they play in real life. It really isn't that hard to hit tough shots and blow by defenders in this game.

I have been in a similar place as you the last 2 years also , had not played before 17 since 2k11 . I don't loose all the time but can never find the balance between winning , losing and realistic stats. I don't understand the difficulty settings now as if I take the same slider set and load it in pro I lose more than if I load them in HOF . Wish they would have left difficulty like 2k 11 personally. But for me I also know that it's me and not the game as too many others love it so ??

Re: I give up. I must be too old. Game is too hard.

I’ve tried many sliders. Many tweaks to those sliders. And I’m down to pro difficulty. If I can’t get it to work then I’m just willing to accept that it’s me. Back in 2k16 I used armor’s sliders basically untouched and I was having great games.

Granted, I have absolutely zero knowledge in how to do any ball handling moves and I can barely figure out the different types of passes. I do regular pass and bounce pass. That’s it. But that’s what I’m talking about. The game has passed me by and I don’t have the capability/time of learning all of the moves and button combos. I probably play a very basic game compared to all of you.

It’s not you NBA2k...it’s me. Seriously though this thread was just to make fun of myself. I’d rather you guys just pile on and tell me how worthless I am rather than try to help

Can't stress this enough. It's best to call plays for the most part as they REALLY help to create open looks. Imo I seem to utilize the P/R better when calling it as a set play before getting anywhere close to the three point line but that's just me. . .

What are your passing settings set to, are you icon pass dependent, if not you should incorporate it into your game plan. . .

I’d say all of the above but mostly just lack of available playing time to learn even a fraction of the controls. Passing is my biggest problem. Hard to set up good shots when I can’t pass.

Heavy icon dependent. 100% pass accuracy. Still turn the ball over 25 times per game easily.

As for play calling I can’t figure out the controls to call manual plays. I set to automatic. They run the same plays over and over. I tried the full play art but getting the player into the little circle to start the play is like a terrible game in itself.

To the OP, may I suggest giving this year's Live a spin. I too am an older gamer and not necessarily concerned with my stick skills or making sure that my face tats match my sneakers, I just want to have some relaxing fun with an NBA game with the limited amount of time I have to spare.

Nothing against 2K really, 2K18 is an amazing game. But they seem to assume that everyone who plays their game wants to become an elite-level virtual b-ball god, the entry level gets higher every year. Live scratches the casual itch for me this year, it's a back-to-basics solid game of video hoops.

I personally bought live also thinking casual may be more for me but I hated it instantly , very limited plays and no player motion , seems like all players just hang out at the 3 point line waiting for someone to do something . Maybe I just don't understand that game either lol. I enjoy basketball and wish I could get really into it like I do with mlb the show but after 2 years of trying to get a good my league going this may be the end for me this year. Seems to be a great game and as I always tell my wife that the game has it all but I just can't make it all work hehe .

I may give it a shot but I do enjoy the in depth franchise mode of 2k as well. I saw it for only like $20 so maybe worth a shot. Thanks!

I just picked the game up. Been playing 2K17 waiting for a half off sale.

Anyway I was born in 63 and even though my guys rating stink(no buying VC for me) I have managed to not kill my team on Pro.

Did you change the options to auto call plays? I have a 6'4" playmaking sharpshooter and I just focus on playing the best defense I can on my man and passing. If plays are called the pg should get a number of opportunities to pass to guys coming off picks or to kick it into the post.

I don't even take shots unless it is WIDE open. Otherwise move the ball. Anyways don't give up. Even us old farts can play, you just have to be more cerebral.

Oh, and use Icon Passing. I use it 90% of the time!

Take a few minutes and check these out:

As for play calling you DON'T have to limit plays to only star players or only play on 2K cam. I mainly play on Broadcast cam. . .

If you want to learn dribble moves the BEST place to learn is in Freestyle practice, I still get in there even if I'm just putting up shots. . . .

Oh no no no, that's way too much for Live. It's usually on sale for less than $5 on the PS4/XB online stores, and free with EA Access I believe.

2k17 I was terrible and 2k18 I’m epically bad. I’ve played 35 games with OKC. I’m 0-35 and I haven’t come within 20 points of winning with most games losing by 35-50 points.

I haven’t shot >35% in any game. I turn the ball over like crazy. Westbrook gets his stats but is shooting 27%.

For comparison I also can’t play madden without throwing 8 interceptions per game either. So I’ve come to the conclusion I’m too damn old for sports games. It was great while it lasted.

Sucks getting older a few yrs ago, I started struggling playing, as I only play 2 games, NBA2k and MLBTS, and I just couldnt play on the highest difficulties. My reaction time and reflexes and brain just dont work together well anymore, lol, and Im sure some of it is due to health, and all the pain meds Im on, but even then, Im sure its just part of getting older.
Heck a couple yrs back, I was seriously considering giving up and going to just text sims, with OOTP and Wolverine studios, doe s a solid job with text sim basketball.
But I still enjoy feeling like I have some control over my wins and losses, so I lowered difficulty and started adjusting sliders more in my favor, to level the playing field.
What I found with NBA2k, is the game plays better and more realisticly on higher difficulty, so I started adjusting sliders, where I felt the CPU boost on SS level, more in my favor. As for yrs, I was one of these guys, who felt it was cheating if sliders were unbalalanced. But its not, regardless of what anyone says.

There are a lot of good slider makers out theres, but my view has always been, not everyone is at the same skill level on the controls, and some hav differing opinions on what is realistic, as I have found many on here, say they want a actual simulation, yet there sliders, dont prove that to be the case, when it comes to turnovers and fouls, lol.
So I suggest put the difficulty where you feel is the most realistic from your perspective, and then start adjusting some sliders, till you feel, you are atleast in the game, where you give yourself a chance to win, if you play smart.

1 thing I found on higher difficulties is the CPU gets a under the hood boost to speed of players, which IMO isnt the right way, but whatever. The CPU the higher difficulty should get smarter, not faster, and super human life. So drope the speed and quickness down 2 or 3 pts below yours. This is probably what saved me, as I just can think and react quick enough anymore. Hustle is another slider that best to put in your favor, as is lowering the ball handling and passing accuracy of the CPU. I also lower offensive awareness down for CPU, and for that matter even myself, but you need the CPU lower that yours, so they will turn it over and make more mistakes to get turnovers to a realistic level for the CPU.

Sliders are your friend, use them, if you still have a desire to enjoy playing this game or any other sports game for that matter, once you get older and slower reflexes. Ignore the idiot kids, who call it cheating, charma can be a real, bitch, and one day they will be in the same boat we are now, as you cant beat father time, its undefeated.
