Finding a Proper Difficulty

So I only play MyLeague. I started on Pro, and once I got a hang of the game, moved up to All-Star with default sliders. My team isn't great (77, 80, 82, 88 Paul George, and 79) and yet I was beating way better teams by 20-30 points with no challenge. So I turned it up to Superstar, and now I'm losing by 15-20, with my guys unable to hit shots and the computer averaging 58% from the field.


When I adjust sliders, it seems like the AI suddenly switches to an extremely basic offense and defense with zero adjustment, even if I just change the shooting sliders a bit.



So what are my best options? I like the game, just getting frustrated.

I completely understand your frustration. I feel that I've been in a similar boat.

In my experience, I've found, stick with Superstar. It's gonna be frustrating for awhile. But it seems like every year, I go through the motions of Superstar, struggling to maintain consistent offense, watching the CPU do whatever they want. I keep at it, and eventually, as I figure out different strategic changes to make and plays that I feel comfortable with, and continue learning my team's strengths and weaknesses, a point comes where it seems to just flip, and I start having success.

NBA 2K is very rating dependent. Meaning... the quality of your team matters. You really need to build up a team that does what you want to do well. I like playing a 3 point game, so building up a strong center that can command a double team in the post to kick out to my shooters is how I need to build. Maybe you play more of a drive to the hole game, so you need good ball handlers. Or whatever your strategy is, you really do need to build for it.

I play Hall of Fame with the SimWorld sliders and to be honest, I’m having a great experience. I only play MyLeague as well and manage the Lakers.

Forced a realistic trade for Kawhi and signed LeBron and PG.

I have a great team indeed, but if I’m not being careful there’s teams that can pull close wins or be really challenging.

Does the computer still run offensive and defensive sets with modified sliders for you? It feels like the AI takes a nap if I adjust them.

They do. My best players get double teamed on the post and sometimes, no matter how good is my man-to-man defense, their plays gets some of theirs players wide open.

I have a Golden State type team so I'm crushing all my opponents but still got some close Ls against Boston and Houston for example. I really need to avoid being too complacent when playing better benches than mine or weaker teams that still have a star or a good player.

I get close Ws against good teams but still can crush weak teams like the Clippers who I played against yesterday; my bench played for like 24 minutes cause LeBron, Kawhi and PG got us a 50 points lead. My bench ended up playing for the rest of the game and still won with a 30 points lead.

I'm playing some MLB waiting for the NBA season and I find interesting the Dynamic difficulty, it could be a nice feature to solve this "issue"

So I tried a game tonight on Superstar with default sliders. I was losing by 20 before halftime. No one could hit open threes, despite getting Good release and Good timing, and both being A- 3-pt shooters.


So I quit, turned the 3-pt Slider from 50 to 53. Suddenly I'm winning by 22 and it feels like the AI got a LOT less aggressive. Not sure what the deal is.

Still having the same issue.


Played on Superstar with default sliders. Golden State leads 39-28 after one, with my three A or A- 3-pt shooters hitting 0-for-6, including two wide open shots off of ankle breakers.


Exited, turned my 3-pt shooting from 50-53.


After one, I lead 41-29, with the defense completely unable or unwilling to stop my slashing small forward, while on Superstar they would regularly force a kick out or a bad shot.

Addendum to the last post...


I didn't change my 3-pt shooting... I changed the CPU's (forgot theirs is first on the menu), yet all of a sudden, the AI is brainless.

Sliders are a simply a mess in 2k18. There was a thread here about how if you just change a one value the whole thing changes and the game becomes easier.

I didn't see that thread. Well that sucks.



I'd be okay with Superstar difficulty if it wasn't suddenly impossible to hit threes.

I guess I'll try the suggestion in that thread to modify starting from Hall of Fame difficulty, see if that improves things.

It’s a legacy issue. The game never seems hard when you up the difficulty it just seems like it’s cheating.

I made my own slider set and i have my MyLeague running fairly well but the scores are still unrealistic

I tried everyones sliders don't feel you need sliders. I like having shooting timed so it has alittle skill involved but that wa smy big mistake. With timing CPU makes everything on any difficulty and I felt gimped.

I switched to real % and its a whole different game. That was the key for me.
