People cheesed in 2k16 but there wasn't an artificial d boost in paint so you could punish them back w smart ball. I played sixteen again before the servers got shut down and it wasn't bad. Way harder to block inside. The best 2k was when you could choose five badges tho.

2k16 next gen was awesome. But 2k16 on 360 and PS3 might be better. I still feel gameplay got worse after they made the jump to next gen. get yourself copy of NBA 2k 16 or even NBA 2K 17 on the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 and you'll understand how great those games still are. But for next-gen I do agree that NBA 2k 16 is probably the best. Way better than 2k 17 and definitely better than 18

When a developer focuses more on online VC elements like 2K has in the past 2 years, it's not hard to see how the vs-CPU gameplay fun factor can get lost in the process. Same thing has happened in the FIFA franchise.

As we move further and further away from the days when offline vs CPU gameplay was king, I don't see it getting any better. 16 is definitely a cut-off point. Hell, go back and play 2K13 and tell me that game isn't way more fun that 17/18.

But Youtubers will get tons of views for their MyPark videos so I guess that's all that matters.

Great comment and true. It's the reason I still go back to my old consoles .

Yeah, it's the same thing every year. Usually the newest game is amazing for about 2 weeks, and then the game from the previous year/2 years prior/3 years prior - becomes great.

Anyway, 2K15 is the last 2K I own, and I'm considering buying 2K16. Looks like a decent game.

You can't go wrong with it. Also if you can check out 2k16 and 17 on the 360 or ps3

The fact that we are still seeing 2k16 threads being made says a lot since we are a month away from 2k19 releasing. Hopefully 2k will make a game that will make us forget about 2k16.

yeah me too. 2K has lost focus for what made the game great. The love to the fans and not a focus on VC.

The only 2k game where defense felt really strong when you play straight up on ball D without any gimmicks .
You hit the nail on the head. Defense actually mattered in 16. It wasn't just about abusing cheesey animations and making ridiculously contested 3's. You could actually stop people if you were good at defense. It was more about ball movement and taking good open shots on offense than exploiting grand badges, snatch backs, blow byes, etc.

I loved 16s online gameplay. I felt like if my team lost it was because the other team was better not because they cheesed animations that are clear exploits of the game and require no skill or basketball knowledge.

i loved 16 but my main problem was the d was TOO strong mainly due to the fact of the chest bumping forcefield that wouldnt let u ever get past your man. that was so annoying. i was glad u could actually round the corner on defenders in 18 but its too easy. they just need to find a good balance on blowbys and im good.

I should probably add that I'm not as "Sim" gamer as most of you here. I don't notice 95% of the things you guys are seeing (nor do I look for them). I just need a fun basketball game with great graphics, responsive and smooth gameplay, and players who play like themselves (I'm ok with doing some edits). I don't play on HOF, and I don't up all sliders to make it impossible for myself to win.

                          I liked 2K14 and 2K15 (PS4), but 2K16 looks pretty good.

17, and 18 are the better games on paper as well as offense execution. There is a lot going on and a lot of quality stuff. You asked the offense to do something via the menu system OTFC/POE or Time out menu and it was satisfying. Now 16, was the last time Menu system worked for off/def in 2K. You could ask it to do something and it played out on the court. In 17, and 18 it was a sloppy incohesive mess. I still don't understand how a dev team can let their game out to the public 2 years in row and their menu system didn't work on the defensive side of the ball. Now they shouting to the mountain top again Defense is the focus of 19 and all they talk about is blow by and on ball. It is a narrowly focused attempt at Defense.

2k16, because players do what they are supposed to do on defense. teams and players play more to their skill level. CPU AI makes adjustments quicker. pace of play varies and represents teams true to life style.

with that said, In my opinion, 2k15 is the current version that represents today's NBA the best.

can you guys explain this to me. i just got back into 2k and have money to spend so i already got 18 for 360 and pc. im trying to find a 2k with realistic gameplay. i like how in 18 u cant just pass the ball inside w/o it getting stolen, or just dribble forward. you have to actually play the game, or i think so. like is aid i havent played much.

btw im gonna be playing a lot of association mode. i dont care much for the gameplay of other modes as long as its fun.

On another thread someone told me 16 was the last game they truly utilize the signature mannerisms of the legends including shootings styles and special moves , dribbling, fadeaway jumpers etc and they were basically removed after 16. I don’t know how accurate that is but it would be disappointing to know that they did that for future 2K games
