Yeah if I was a publisher I'd make absolutely sure not to release anything within a few weeks of RDR2 because that game is a behemoth.

Haven't you noticed the increase in sales from 5 million to 10 million (shipped) since the change? They have their analytics which probably influenced the move....

Its also terrible because once you start MyCareer, the rosters are perm and alot of trades and signings in the NBA usually start in October. Why not just keep the same release dates so they can tweak the errors in game and release a fully complete game for the masses

There will always be something to fix, whether September or October.

Re: Remember when 2K games used to be released in October?

September was the right move, for the reasons stated above. If anything, blame the (perceived) lack of finish on the pressure of a yearly release. Back in the day there was a legitimate, non-monetary reason to have yearly releases....couldn't update rosters any other way.

If it wasn't for the finances of yearly releases, these games could have 2, 3 year development cycles. With the released version being supported Rainbow Six Siege style.

I do agree with the original poster that September releases are odd in that it is so far in advance of the NBA schedule and all the dust hasn't settled...and (sort of) disagree with the response of...well you could just wait. In past 2K games, that would have been almost impossible. Needed those career games if you're going to compete in the park/pro-AM. Luckily for me, the September-October roster changes don't bother me too much...
            NBA: Wizards
            WNBA: Mystics
            NFL: Ravens
            MLB: Nationals
            Europe: Barcelona
            MLS: DC United

The only thing I don't like is having to wait until October to start MyLeague because I don't know who is gonna make every teams final roster

Only other big game I'm looking forward too is Spider-Man. I'm going to pre-order it on the first when I get paid. If it's too late to pre order at gamestop. I'll just hop on the playstation store and preorder. With digital games you can pre order up until it becomes playable. I got the $100 version of 2k, so depending on the 2k servers and how they're acting I probably won't play Spiderman on the 7th.

I cant wait for Spiderman too. But think about it, you have Madden, a month later is 2K, FIFA, and Spiderman, then a month after that is Battlefield, BO4, RDR2, Tomb Raider, Forza Horizon 4, AC: Odyssey, Fallout 76....

If 2K was still releasing in October and was packed in with that MASSIVE list, it would not be good at all.

(P.S. Holy crap this will be the best video game winter ever.)

EDIT: Plus we have Days Gone in February and The Division 2 in March, but now im just rambling.

Soon as I saw the title I was thinking the same. Assuming most folks dont really follow basketball.

In effort to remove back to back games and other things, Nba stretched the season out. Moved the free agency days and a few others to give players more time to recover. preseason starts end of September.
