You don’t hold the stick down anymore for the stepback. You have to tap R2 and shot stick away simultaneously.

Are you referring to while you're driving or standing still? Cause pulling the shot stick while driving will still trigger a step back depending on the direction.

Maaaaan which 2k had the legends teach you each move? They need to bring that back it was fun AND informative.

These are the types of things I would be ok with being in the little pop ups in the prelude. At least then it would be useful. Instead I get “advanced” tips like to to do a rolling inbound pass.

It goes right into a pull up jumper for me when I pull and hold the shot stick.

I think 2K removed the sideways, cross-body escape dribble from this year's game (the move where you hold turbo and flick the right joystick away from your ball hand).

If you try to do that move in 2K19, all it does is switch your ball hand while keeping your feet firmly planted in the same spot that you were standing.

You can still do this move in 19, with more control of how you want to perform it actually. You can choose to do a behind the back, cross, or between the legs cross into the escape hesi.

If the ball is in your right hand, do a crossover move to your left hand (any of the 3) and before the animation ends flick the stick again towards your left hand.

                  Is this what you mean?

2K18's control scheme may have been my all time favorite...and in a year like this where it seems you'll need to use more of your tools, it would have been perfect.

That's just a hop gather animation, which is determined by the hop jumper that your player has equipped.

I'm talking about this move I show at 1:23, which is determined by the standing size up package that you have equipped:

                    https://xboxdvr.com/gamer/jyoungad/video/55837597#t=83

I'm actually glad that it's gone from the game (if it truly is gone? maybe the controller input just changed?), because it was just too quick and had too much lateral movement, making it look incredibly cartoony, especially when you chained them back-to-back-to-back-to-back.

You can still do this move in 19, with more control of how you want to perform it actually. You can choose to do a behind the back, cross, or between the legs cross into the escape hesi.

It could just be that the hesitation and escape dribble animations in Curry's standing size up package are similar, but it looks like the exact same animation to me, whether you flick the stick towards his ball hand or away from his ball hand. That's what makes me think the cross-body escape animations that were tied to your standing size up package aren't in the game anymore.

In 2K18, you got a distinctly different animation for most players, depending on whether you flicked away/towards the ball hand.

But for Curry, Durant, and Klay in this 2KU demo, you get the same animation going both directions.

Are you doing that with the right stick or with the button?

He did two hop gathers in a row, so the controls for that would be:

                        1) tap shoot button + left joystick to the left

                        2) tap shoot button + left joystick straight down THEN hold and release shoot button to time your jumpshot

Right, I'm just asking if they removed the ability to do it with the right stick instead of the shot button. In 2K18 you didn't need to use X/Square for any of the different shot types. I don't like using the button for shooting.

Seems the only step backs you can do with the stick are momentum step backs. Other than those, you have to use the button. You could technically step back with the button and still shoot with the stick though...

If you're controlling a shot creator (or any player who has the difficult shots badge), then you'll want to get used to doing the button hop gathers instead of the turbo + right joystick straight down escape dribble, because the button gathers will trigger difficult shots (and cause ankle breakers in takeover mode), but the turbo + right stick straight down escape dribble from a stationary position will not trigger difficult shots and rarely breaks ankles.
