I grew up down south wear people where people still til this day wear Jordan’s and Nike’s and that’s it. I moved to NYC for college and have been living here since and there is a drastic difference of what people wear. I saw more people wearing brands like puma, ASICS and New Balance. Nike and adidas are dominating the basketball game right now and have been for years, but it’s good to see other brands emerge and make returns to give the consumer more of a variety to choose from. Basketball wise, It’s interesting to see what direction NB will go in from a technology and performance perspective being that their runners have really been innovative over the years.

New Balance have been a long time staple in the D.C. metropolitan area. I'm in my 30's and they are nearly apart of the local culture here (note: I'm from the nearing suburbs of P.G. county).

This is exactly why I think it’s dope. Same for Kelly Oubre and his Converse deal

If only someone could convince Reebok (not just classic "retros"), Pony and Asics to rejoin the basketball shoe market....

Yeah, it always perplexed me when I heard people from other areas (mostly on tv) say they are "old people shoes" when the 574, 991 & 990's are legendary here...

There basketball line is a totally different endeavor and Kawhi is getting roasted online. If Nike/Jordan Brand doesn't match I'd hope the shoes end up in-game at some point this season. I hate Kawhi's ***, but like them to strive for accuracy....

I'm also from the PG County area, and I think that New Balance's are so common here of course... It's just interesting to see them as basketball shoes.

I think perception of NB has changed a lot recently. I remember the movie The 40 year old virgin made fun of NB but they’ve been churning out quality for a while now and they’ve expanded into other sports too (pretty decent following in soccer now) and their running apparel is some of the best I own.

I mean guys in the NBA wear Chinese shoes for goodness sake. People are weird sometimes.

Mj took a gamble on a lesser known brand, Nike as a young player and it paid off

We have BBB and Spenser dinwiddie shoes and this is a bad idea?

Majority of those people that make those comments are the same people that was probably in line for the Jordan supreme release that didn’t even know who the heck Michael Jordan was lol. How you in line for shoes not knowing the man who rocked them lol. It’s awful. Like I said earlier I’ve been living in NY ten years and that’s what got me into the game. My favorite pair is the 998 which I’m wearing in the photo. It was a collab with the Tannery store in boston. I’m a avid Jordan head but this particular pair craps on most Jordan’s in my opinion. To those dudes slandering khawi for his NB move, good! Bc that’s more NB for me lol.. don’t want none of ya jumping on the bandwagon either once he’s cooking your favorite adidas and Nike superstars lol..photo 2.jpg

IMG_0001.JPGIMG_1531.jpgimage.jpegIMG_1229.jpgIMG_1951.jpgjust a few pics of some of the “old people” shoes that I own lol. The navy/white/red is my favorite model the 998. I customized these by painting and using suede dye back in college. Inspired by France. Same as the last one, (1600) in burgundy called “doué la fontaine” Inspired by a rose festival that’s held in doué la Fontaine, France. The different hues of maroon, red and burgundy represent the stages red roses go thru from life to death. The black/white/grey 574 was my favorite bc of the 3M material so I was able to get the best out of that. Those are inspired by my love for black and white photography. I’m an artist so yeah lol.. but anyway, I’m glad to see NB back on the basketball map and not just being associated with runners. Like someone said earlier, It would be nice if pony and ASICS made a return as well. ASICS had a ton of dope basketball kicks so I could see a return from them in the future. Pony on the other hand, not too sure bc a lot of brands have tried reviving pony but to not much success. I feel like what got pony the axe from basketball was when they dropped the city wings pair, which closely resembled the air Jordan one. During that time, the fakes market wasn’t what it is now, probably didn’t exist but, many felt like these were considered to be a poor mans versions of the chicago air Jordan 1 colorway. Since then many brands have collaborated with pony but haven’t been able to consistently keep them in the game. I don’t think even Kanye or just don himself could revive pony. Kith was one of the last brands to collab with pony and that was 4 years ago

Lol I tried man so give me a little credit lol..But yeah I agree. Wasn’t thinking about the performance aspect. I totally forgot that was the other reason why so many brands fell off during the 90s era. I’m only 30 but I have been around long enough to know what’s up at least a little bit.
