Live lags but not as consistently as 2k. Back when I played live on pc competitively, you could see people's pings. Huge difference between under 100 and say 200. 2k has lag where whole button presses are lost. It has consistent input lag. It can be choppy but it's almost like 2k has a buffer of lag to even it out, if that makes sense. There's never that "this game is laggy", "this game is running smooth." It's just like there's always the same amount of input lag, unless it's chopping up in park.
In live I've played smooth games and games that were input laggy. Don't recall any choppy. I think live is based on like the average of the connection of players. It uses to be based on host. In 09 I had a friend in Serbia who was like I'm da bess big man u trash Smak watch I show u. And I'd be like OK Ill host and he's like nah I host. And the lag was awful, could barely time a rebound. But when I hosted it was like that for him.
NBA live is Def not lag free. The time you play and who you play matter. I guess sometimes on 2k if you're playing first thing in the morning it might be more responsive. I hate to say lag cuz I suck with lag. So if I say lag it's just gonna look like I'm making an excuse. I usually wait til someone else mentions it.
But to me 2ks lag is inexcusable because of how complex their inputs are. But to be fair to them, they probably know how to have good server cuz they are a huge company, but so many people play, plus they want you to play in these mmo environments.
Edit: but Yea if u haven't ever played a gm on pc peer to peer where you can see ping, and played a truly lag free (as lag free as is possible), you might not even understand what lag is. I like it on gms when they show people connection quality. They should show overall connection quality in a pro am and pno before the game. But the lag is real.

Played about 15 games online, and I have never gotten any lag. The game played smooth every single game.Psn: Alabamarob

I don’t think it’s horrendous but this year feels slower to me as well. I get 24ms in NHL, a game that makes a fraction of 2K, and it feels significantly higher in this game.Comment

It's a mixed bag with me and I have a wired connection. Some games feel buttery smooth while others feel like I'm playing in cold oatmeal...-kanye shrug- (These are Park games)

Exactly. I don't have some crazy mega FBI level internet speeds, but it's pretty good. 2K is literally the only reason I had to invest in another ethernet cord. ALL of my other games support smooth online play with just my WiFi connection. Fortnite, COD, Madden, Live, Far Cry 5, GTA V, etc. I have to hard line my Xbox just to have a chance at that in 2K.
I haven't had issues like this since the host migration days of old Modern Warfare games.Comment

Me and some friends bought the game, but we are from Brazil.
We have about 1 second delay because of the lack of servers here.
I actually have a decent record with my center, but my friends are shooting 25% from 3 because they need to release the button before the bar appear.
I never tried a shot with my center, just dunks and layups.
I played some games in US servers before and it wasn't that laggy. Some of my friends are having 2 second delay, they receive the ball and they just stop for a moment to try to do a move.Comment

All next gen 2k's have had horrible online experiences. The best experience i've ever had with responsiveness and tightness online was last gens 2k13-14. It wasn't exactly the same as offline but boy was it close.Comment

Overall current gen games on PS4 especially as i just know that console only are experiencing a tremendous amount of online server problems that affect gameplay tremendously. It's sad, it's true; but 2K does have a lot more issues than the others i can confirm.
The overall gameplay experience whether online or offline is off. If i get to play on a good server, the game plays absolutely amazing but general it's not the case.
I also remeber that old gen the gameplay online/offline were a lot tighter and the feeling was whole lot better, there was only some input lag problems which you could get used as it was a standard,too but now things changed, sometimes you play a game where it's 2x speed and then there is rubberbanding all over and then there is super slow gameplay and then and then and then the list goes on..
