NBA 2K19 TRIANGLE System

Very cheesy...and that’s why Sam Pham made a video about it a few years ago lol
For the last minute or two of each quarter I run more of an spread offense. The bulls and lakers call this “Open Set”

Well, he's still doing it this year hah

Whats the spread offense in 2K?

The bulls ran this in the earlier years. One player at each corner and one at each wing, with ball initiation at the center, top of key. First pass to the wing (say, right side). Passer cut to the weak side (left side of the court) and set a off ball screen for the wing to cut to the strong side and the weak side corner player run to the strong side to form the triangle. Everybody is on the move to confuse the defense. They usually run this in the last minute of the quarter.


I couldnt find this play in 2K.

Quick 35 TRI Mid Range kinda of looks like the Low Post play?

Difference is you get the guards to do squeeze action right after the pass to the post so you really have 2 chances to get a quick shot

This just how I organize my plays bcuz it makes it easier to call them in game. I’m only running the Triangle on 60% of possessions since I push it on makes and misses not unlike Phil’s teams (despite popular belief). Some of these are also semi transition plays. If you watched Kobe you’ll remember that when he brought the ball up he had the liberty of using PNRs and self post ups to create off the dribble. This is why plays like Punch 1 fist are included. Hope this helps

That’s really dependent on multiple factors. Do you like to run pick n roll a lot? Do you use auto play calling?

I use Auto PLay calling about 95% of the time

Then you should make the first 2 play types the plays you’d like the cpu to call for you. Remember also that just because a play type is not assigned to a player doesn’t mean you can’t call other play types for them in game. For example: If you change your offensive focus to “get shooters open” you can call offscreen “smart” plays for the players with the highest offscreen shooting tendencies regardless of play times assigned to them.

Last year I took all the iso plays out the playbook when I played with MJ. His “play discipline” and iso vs.” tendencies were such that I didn’t need them. He broke away from, the freelance if he wanted to score in an iso. Plus I’m a “stick slapper” when it comes to dribbling so I much rather post up, come of screens and run PNR

I was gonna post something for each of the non-triangle plays in my playbook later this month in practice plays.
