The defense took a step back..there was nothing wrong with blow bys and it could be defended.

Now you got a game where everyone is a lock down defender and the defense is way too physical where it doesn’t even resemble the nba.

2k19 is the worst next gen iteration to me. The paint defense, shooting and lack of ball tangibility killed the game's other improvements. They improved on a ton of things but those 3 things have been game killers to me.

19 is a little better than 18 but I do hate Pure Sharps and Spam Stealing. I never had an issue with blow by.

I think overall, gameplay is good...main problems are everything surrounding it for Online play and MyPlayer. Imo, 2k20 has to have...


- Seperate parks into ranked and unranked
- Records only kept for ranked park and Team Pro Am
- JRC is two 5min halves
- Rewards to earn that aren't tied to top 10 in a PvP event
- MyTeam style challenges to level up MyPlayer
- Co Op vs CPU to level up MyPlayer
- Ranked ProAm is pre made balanced classes, like in 2kLeague
- "Seasons" that yield different rewards and track progress

I'd say from a MyPlayer Perspective 19 is better than 18 but not by a large margin. Although they took the Blow By animation out of the game, pushing was even worse. Some features/improvements that stood out in 19 for me was:

-Neighborhood design was much better this year
-New park events (when working) were a great addition
-Ante Up not being effected by Park Events was great
-Deeper player customization in terms of clothes, tattoos etc.
-Daily spin wheel for rewards

What I'd like to see in 2k20
-Bring back Park Affiliations
-Bring back the old Rep System. Road to 99 overall needs to be removed
-Find a way to balance Archetypes
-Revamp Walk-On
-Improved Matchmaking

Just to name a few.

This comment is such a lie. Being a PNO player, all people would do was call some 5-Out set, and kept attacking the defender until they kicked off the blow-by animation. As a result, it was either a layup/dunk or uncontested 3 if you was stupid enough to drop down to try to defend the paint. You could get a blow-by animation literally with anyone. If they HAPPENED to throw in a snatchback, then your defender was "thrown" backwards 3-5 feet where you couldn't contest the shot.

Gameplay wise I definitely like 2k19 better but I feel like MyLeague has more issues than 2k18 did. It's hard for me to say which I like better because of that.

I really hope they focus on fixing a lot of the MyLeague issues for 2k20. I think MyLeague has a lot of great features as is I just wish it were more functional

Gameplay-wise, I enjoyed 2K19 more...mostly. In 2K18 the blow-by crap was annoying but definitely defendable.

I found the more challenging offense of 2K19 more enjoyable because it kinda makes you have to be a bit more creative and with the improved defensive settings, it helps balance offense vs defense which has been a problem in 2K for years.

BUT the pick and roll defense pisses me off to no end. The inconsistent switching and suction cup brick wall screens are even worse in 19. That’s the main gameplay issue I hope they improve.

MyCareer wise, I think 19 needs a lot of work for me to be excited about 20. The current “Got Next” system needs to either be complemented or replaced by an actual matchmaking system cuz it takes TOO DANG LONG to find games. They should also consider hiding records or something so ppl aren’t dodging games trying to find teammates with 90% win records. I still think squads shouldn’t be able to just skip lines for games because it makes it take that much longer to finally play. JRC and pro-am need work.

I think 19 is buggier than 18. But I'd still rather play 16 than 17, 18 or 19 combined.

Nope, I prefer 18. On-Ball defense (blowby) was fixed but transition offense and spacing clearly got worse.

Rebounding is still god awful as well and I feel that the inside game as far as finishing layups is worse as well. Transition defense was not fixed at all. The Takeover system is just an arcade gimmick that I think they put in the game just to advertise as a new feature to sell copies. The previous hot streak system was fine to me.

Easily the 2nd worst 2K of this gen. 17 has the #1 spot locked up quite comfortably however.

EDIT: And my expectations for 2K20? Not expecting much unless it's on next-gen consoles which I doubt. This game is dying to get on some new hardware.

the presentation has been bad for years, it was last really good in nba 2k12 IMO. That's when they had the retro stadium sounds and also the crowd seemed to be super engaged to the action. that's why I don't have high hopes. I need more crowd interaction to be involved with the gameplay, weak crowd ruins the immersion regardless of how good the gameplay is.

I like 19 more automatically because of the shoot contest system changes, but I mean the way it was at launch. Now they went ahead and kinda ruined it with these buff to shot contest and all that stuff. I'd like to be able to tell the difference between elite defenders and horrible ones again. My main gripes with 19 though, are the lack of ball tangibility(mainly for CPU), the inside game not being solid enough and the unrealistic shooting. A few things i'd like to see changed/added are bad illegal screen calls(on the ball handler), no more screen animations sucking in defenders, fix bad trasition defense, more realistic shooting (where ratings matter more and percentages more realistic), bring back on ball defense shade stance from 2k14, bring back on ball defense quick steps from 2k15. As far as 2k20, if it's not on next gen, I don't expect much change at all. There will be a few new things and little changes here and there, but I don't expect much.

I did like the freedom that 2k18 gave when trying to create your own shot. You could really do some creative things once you got the controls down. Of course online players didn't care about all the cool things you could do and only relied on two moves(blow-byes and snatchbacks) and ruined the experience for everyone.

It did feel good to lock those players up when you got into a zone defensively tho. Especially in teamup when I had to guard Giannis with an actual PF.

It took 4 months but I'm used to one-on-one play in this game now and I'm starting to like it more and more. Once you understand the angles available to you getting a good driving animation happens more often than not. The more I play the easier it is for me to get where I want on the floor even if my player has lower ball control ratings.

I think the pick and roll game is better in 19. Being able to do a hesitation dribble from triple threat position opened up scoring opportunities in PnR situations. You can get a good amount of threes if the defenders go under the pick this year.

I feel like the speed that the computer runs through plays took a step back this year since now there is so much contact. I would still like to see a better balance of players staying in contact with each other and not getting completely stonewalled, especially when it comes to off-ball movement.

I don't like the new play art. A lot of times the game doesn't tell you where to go next in the offense. I end up having to do a lot of guessing and it can lead to miscues if you don't understand the offensive set.

I feel the graphics and color depth improved this year. The game is gorgeous. I can only imagine how good it looks for PC players.

Overall I'd agree that 2k19 is better than 18. I really liked the freedom of movement in 18. Basketball is a very free flowing game and I think 2k nailed that aspect of the sport in 18. But 2k19 has grown on me once I figured out the one-on-one game a little more.

My exact thoughts. I don't know why Mike likes to take control away because people don't know how to use the mechanics properly

The blow bys could not be defended if you were playing MyTeam at the late stages. The blow bys forced a help defender to have to come vs any driver. When you're facing an offence where every player is 85+ in 3pt and they are playing 5 out, they are going to score on you almost 100% of the time. The game just became a 3pt contest with how easy it was to just blow by guys than kick it to the corner for a 3 if anyone rotates.

2k18 is easily the WORST 2k I've ever played (been playing 2k since 2k8)

Besides everyone and their mother being able to shoot the 3 regardless of build id say this game is way better then 2k18.

that said they are doing their best to ruin this game with nerfing everything.
