Wow. As a woman going through and reading the replies on this thread...all I have to say is yikes.

My whole group of friends I play 2k with is female. We’re all pretty excited.

I don't get it. They make the game, we choose to buy it if we want it. What's the problem? If you don't like something they put in the game one year, then wait a year and buy it next year instead. It comes out every year so it's not like it's a huge game that you've been waiting 5 years from and decide you don't like the direction they've taken it in.

I don't understand the animosity and the name calling over the fact that they've put women players In a basketball game that's come out every year for 20 years now.

No one's forcing anyone to buy it and the company who makes it doesn't owe you to make it exactly the way YOU'VE decided you think it should be.

or they could still buy the game and simply not use the features that they aren't interested in.

You tell me. You’ve insinuated I lack intelligence earlier in this thread, and this other guy attempted to insult me by.. Calling me a lurker? Lol. All because I think ‘time and resources’ is the most bogus excuse you can come up with. You’ve no idea what is or isn’t in the game because of this. You’ve no idea whether or not this will impact gameplay, which gets tuned constantly throughout the year. I simply don’t understand the outrage against the inclusion of a simple 12 team league that likely won’t affect you at all. Just mind boggling to me. This thread should have been full of replies like ‘Oh cool.’ Or ‘Cool for the people who care. I personally don’t.’ Not replies like ‘Wow what a waste of time.’ Or ‘Nobody cares.’ The negativity is seriously unwarranted, and as I said before I think sexism certainly plays a role in it. If this ends up being the most broken, glitched, unsatisfying 2K ever, then sure. I’ll eat crow and say it’s because they focused on the implementation of the WNBA too much. But I highly doubt I’ll be eating any crow.

Was going to skip out on NBA 2K20, but this WNBA talk has made me rethink that decision. I love supporting the WNBA. I buy WNBA League Pass, I watch the games & I buy some of the merchandise. Only thing that irritates me about the league is that there's no team near Mississippi that I can support in person. (Would love seeing a team set up shop in Memphis and/or New Orleans).

With that being said, if implemented right, I will be making multiple builds of female characters for MyPark. I personally wouldn't be mad if 2K allows women to get off crazy dunks at the park. I mean you have dudes with all kinds of crazy builds hitting 3 point shots from half court at ease so why not make it somewhat arcadey for female characters...

The chance of making a Sue Bird style character for Park has me hyped. Will be nice to see what type of clothing they add as well. (Jordans that only come in women sizes, WNBA jerseys that can be rocked by both male & female characters, etc)

2K just wants to get girls hooked on VC too. Nothing virtuous or wholesome about this. They're busy trying to get into new markets instead of investing time and resources on the one they have now. Well, it wouldn’t be my cup of tea. But I don’t see how that mode would detract from the game either. This game isn’t strictly an NBA game. Their most popular mode is MyPark/Neighborhood. Which is just street ball.

Plus, we would never know if something was affected or taken away because of it.

There's a difference between some silly made up Mascot challenge and an actual league with a season, playoffs and championship like what the WNBA is.

Mascot fans at least have had the option to buy and use those suits in My Park in the last few installments of NBA 2k so that's enough to satisfy them.

The criticism should come more when game info is released though. (It'd make this a more boring thread though, haha.) As it is, it's people (again, not everyone) creating an imaginary worst-case scenario for themselves ('This took away from [other thing]!') without having proof of that, then raging against the WNBA addition...because of their feelings over a scenario that right now only exists in their head.

If info comes out about things that were omitted because of the time spent on WNBA, fine. Until there's a reason not to, I'm going to trust that 2K laid out their plans for 2K20 and budgeted their time and resources to accomplish what they wanted to.

And I know the point you're going for, but a mascot mode has no real-life reference the way WNBA does. It's comparing apples to oranges.

I agree that some create the worst case scenario in their head, and for others it’s just a knee jerk reaction to what they would deem as political correctness run amok. No arguments there.

I also trust 2k and think the game will be a day one purchase that leaves me a satisfied customer.

And with the mascot challenge, yeah I don’t mean to suggest that the WNBA is equally silly. The only point is that if we cannot criticize a feature before release because we don’t have the final product, that should hold true whether it be apples, oranges, or watermelons.

To finalize things, what the game looks like at release doesn’t determine whether I think this is a worthwhile addition. If the feature is still in the game and supported 3 years from now is what will determine that. For those of you excited about this, I genuinely hope it is. I just don’t think it will be, I think it gets dropped in two years due to lack of usage. Time will tell if that is true
