NBA 2K20 / NBA 2K21 - OFFICIAL TRIANGLE SYSTEM THREAD

What it do baby! Back at it again breaking down all things Triangle. We’ll look at the Triangle Offense Freelance, Playbooks, the new CREATE A SERIES feature, how to incorporate the new advanced play action options, System Proficiency, player motion, and much more. Stay tuned.

As always, this is a thread for constructive feedback of this years game. Respect each other and the Devs and Engineers that put in work to keep the most successful system in NBA history in the game.

NBA 2K20 / NBA 2K21 - OFFICIAL TRIANGLE SYSTEM THREAD (CURRENT GEN)

User Created (Favorite Plays) Series Overview

Watch Czar break down the Offensive Settings Menu

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Qphviv00rLo" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
    Offensive Settings
    Tempo: Patient or Average
Offensive Focus: Various (play to your team’s strengths)
    Defensive Focus: Protect Paint
    Play Physical
    Limit Transition
    Crash Defensive Glass

    Freelance 1: Triangle
    Freelance 2: 2-Man Game

These will save for your coach in the franchise modes but not the Play Now modes. I understand that most current teams have 3-2 active or 4-1 active as their default freelances but this should be different for classic teams. Hopefully we can have the opportunity to select this In the future.

If needed use the 2-man game freelance to switch things up if you have a dominant big and wing. Use Point or Warriors freelance if you’re into running a lot of manual spread PNR and want optimal spacing. That “Nuggets 2018” is pretty nice too if you have the right bigs.

If running one of the user created series below, set the options to static and do not repeat on success. As far a setting offensive playcalling to Auto or Manual it’s totally a personal preference. If you chose to leave it on manual, you can always use the smart play button on the Left D-pad menu. With the smart play button this year, things feel somewhat similar to 2K16. If we use it as we pass half court and we normally see a play called best suited for where the players are already stationed on the court. That’s totally SIM!!!

Also, when using classic teams, make sure to change the Roll vs Pop tendencies. The bigs on the 01 Lakers, for example, aren’t able to be assigned each of the PNR plays below because their Roll vs Pop tendency is set to zero (except Shaq). Stauff and the roster heads need to update this. It’s been like this for years now.

    EARLY OFFENSE
    03 Quick 12 - MID

This can be used until the Triangle specific early offense is fixed.

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/oxtSjJe4GCE" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

EDIT: they’re not fixing this lol

In my early offense or secondary breaks I use some of the plays in the Fist series below as well.

Turn tempo to Patient Offense. If you want to use the random early offense every team uses the just select it in transition by using the Left D-pad and pressing left bumper.

One quick note as the demo drops today: I have no clue how MyPlayer builds or player progression In my career work but I do know that for system proficiency, player tendencies matter just as much as player skills depending on position. I’ve created Steve Kerr like shoot-first point guards with 72-overall ratings and 5-star Triangle system ratings. For bigs, touches and post tendency matter most! Wings are a mix. Regardless of position BBall IQ is paramount specifically skills like defensive consistency.

For those drafting in my league or my gm once the game drops, I like players with high Intangibles as it really just boosts overall ratings and most importantly is the only rating that doesn’t increase or depreciate as players progress or decline after their prime. You can throw them in the g-league or at the end of the bench and have them develop skills to be better in the system.

Man I thought about delaying my purchase at least until Christmas but then I heard what they’ve done for offline users who play 5v5. But I can’t judge it based on the demo as I don’t play MYcareer. I may be wrong but it looks like the 5v5 scrimmage mode doesn’t let you call any plays or pick your freelance or series. Someone correct me if I’m wrong

Honestly, after my extreme hype for 2K18 and tremendous level of disappointment, I refuse to get excited about it. Although offline 5v5 is my go to so I’ll have to look into it.

Man I’ll try. waiting till midnight to play is killing me. It makes not having the ability to call plays and run real offense in the demo 5v5 even more annoying.

Personally my main goals this year are (feel free to add to this list):
                        1) leverage that user-created series option into even more authentic gameplay.
                        2) address any spacing, timing, off-ball weakside movement in the freelance.
                        3) discuss the impact of system proficiency in-game and for simulation.
                        4) try to list the best 40 to 50 triangle plays in 2k history. This is a big one as I think since 2k11 till now, we have seen 90% of the options used irl in some form or variation in different years. (ex. Fist Series in 2k11/12)
                        5) go over advanced controls including but not limited to passing, footwork, and the new quick action options.

I’ll probably tackle the freelance first then the set plays (between tonight and Saturday morning). I bet Czar will likely be scouting current teams once preseason starts so everything will be on the back burner most likely. With next gen coming I’m hoping the other stuff can be addressed by then.

All in all, I think this won’t be 2k19.5 and the Devs have continued to put in work this cycle. It’s gonna be a great year. #simnation

So essentially if you want to run the UCLA high post series you can create a series using those plays only if you want before the game starts. I haven’t seen anyone talk about it since the blog dropped but this is huge especially for classic teams/systems.
