I'm not a huge basketball fan, but I always liked how people make good videogames from it. Got 2K20 on a Steam sale. Last ball game I got was 2K12, so I'm coming with a fresh perspective.

For someone who likes to play sim-gameplay oriented franchise modes, this game is heaven. Puts to shame, totally obliterates the two big soccer games I buy every year. I just can't look at them anymore.

You guys are spoiled. Gameplay (at least offline) is so realistic, especially with good sliders. Presentation is amazing, commentary is beyond what I thought it could be possible on a videogame. MyLeague is the ****!

MyCareer could be as awesome if it wasn't for 2K's greed. It gets boring real fast just because they want to milk money from us. Infuriating, it is.

I don't care for online modes in general because they're always pay-to-win exploit fests which never resemble the sport they're trying to represent at the slightest.

For an old-school guy like me who just wants to relax and play championships against bots, I gotta say this is definitely the best sports game I ever played.

We are spoiled. That's unquestionable.

I've seen the best simulation basketball in my lifetime after messing with sliders and editing tendencies, ratings, playbooks, etc.
Unfortunately editing every team takes a while.

If @2k21 wants to add a sim gameplay type position on their team I would definitely consider accepting the position. Love editing rosters, don't have the time.

Surprised they added this game to GamePass.

I don't play basketball games even tho I own NBA 2K15, 16, 17 and 19 (thanks to goodwill) but I'm actually giving this game a try and wow.

Gameplay is solid with some good sliders, presentation is like the real deal, and the customization is crazy.

MyCAREER blew my mind with it's presentation and story line. I wish Madden would copy it. I do find myself getting bored of it due to not controlling the team but I understand.

Now in the process of creating a 6 team expansion league. Looking forward to continue playing it.

My career is so freaking stupid, how is it possible that they always sub me out whenever I give my team a lead but whenever I’m subbed back in we are down always by 9 point. It’s never 1 or 3 points or even 10, it’s always 9. Is it programmed to do that? Also, my teammates make the dumbest shot attempts. I pass to them while they’re wide open and instead of dunking they layup and yet somehow miss. I hope 2k reads this. This is not fun, playing hard yet still losing. I would like to get to the playoffs my rookie year you know.

One annoying bug I wish they fixed was the jump ball after a successful challenge on fouls. The camera never actually shows the jump ball! The jump ball happens, I lose and then the camera shows the gameplay. There are goofy situations like that with the camera not showing the action once in awhile due to cut scenes and the challenge is terrible for it.

Thanks man you put in words and expressed exactly what bothers me about this game and why I am having trouble enjoying it.


Defense is bad, plain and simple, and there are a couple of factors which play a role, as you said, lateral movement, help defense and pure (in)competence by AI on that side of the ball. I recently downloaded NBA 2K14 and I enjoyed it because, while exciting, it is challenging and AI can, for the most part, defend the paint and the transition. Running and pushing the ball in transition is one of the most fun and exciting part of basketball for me in the real life, so I love when it's replicated in a game. But in 2k20, if you want, you can score with ease most of the times on the fast break, AI can't keep up because their lateral movements are too slow, their bigs are too slow to protect the rim and they get lost.


There are parts of the game that I love, but I, same as you, will really consider not buying 2k21 if I don't see improvements. I said that since 2k18 but I really feel that way right now. But who knows, maybe 2k21 next gen gets to be amazing.

Was thinking of picking up this game and seeing things like this makes me think it's not worth it. Seems like this game takes a step in the wrong direction every year.

Have a myleague going with Celtic’s rosters and adjusting sliders as I go. Having a lot of fun and realistic gameplay and stats. Probably my favorite 2k since 15.

There should be a button for mycareer to get players to shoot. I almost had a triple double but in the last 24 seconds of the game, my team mate would not shoot. The other team was still playing defense though. I kept hitting pick and rolls but everytime I passed it dude would just stand there smfh infuriating

I've been playing 2K20 recently thanks to Game Pass, and have to say, aside from the funky music during free throws, I've been enjoying my games against the CPU.

Nba 2k20 is again a run and gun game, every time you miss a shot they do a fast break, totally unrealistic but that’s what the young people want. 2k please make two games, one for the sim players with realistic gameplay and movement and one for the other people who likes fast play like it is at myplayer myteam etc... both aren’t compatible anymore and nobody is really happy anymore with the game! sims players find it a run and gun game and the people who love run and gun find it not arcadish enough. Anyway, i’ll hope defence comes back next year otherwise I keep playing nba 2k19, its no fun if you can blowbye every player
