But those 3-4 hours are spent playing 3v3 with my squad at the park and you only get 400-500 points (if you're lucky and depending on which aspect of the game you can contribute to the team) If my squad isn't on then I can use those hours and play mycareer. And I play usually 7-8 minute quarters and 1 game usually takes an hour/hour and a half. I would lower the quarters cause like I said sometimes the games can become a bore with teams playing identical but if I lower the quarters then I'm getting less "gametime" to earn badges, ya feel me? It's not even about how quickly I want my badges, I just want to be able to compete. But because I'm not willing to spend $100-$200 on VC and badges take so long to get I end up looking like trash compared to all the other players. And its not that I'm trash or my build is trash, it's just there's a big skill gap between the players that are already a 96 to the ones that are in the lower 80s. And I wouldn't even say "skill gap" cause I've been playing 2k since the OG Nba 2k on dreamcast (just told my age lol). Its more like a "money gap".

Re: Man... how important ARE badges?
You might finally max out 1 character by February if that's all you're playing.
The badges take way too long to unlock this year. This is the longest that it's ever taken in 2K history.
You'd think that it'd make the most business sense to shorten the badge grind since people creating more characters = more VC spent. But 2K went in the exact opposite direction this year. I don't even want to make a second character knowing how long it's going to take to get his badges. I've played 50+ MyCareer games and I'm not even halfway done with my first guy.
I hate that game design in general across the entire landscape of videogames has gone in this direction.
Getting good at a videogame used to only involve becoming better at playing it, and learning/mastering advanced techniques. Now most games are like 2K where it's just about repeating the same tedious AI exploits over and over to make some dumb progress bars inch their way up.
I agree, in the past it used to take skill/dedication/learning how the game plays to get good. Now all it takes is $$$$ and boom you're a 96 SMH!!Comment

There's a metric in business called WTP (Willingness to Pay) and all companies do their best to maximize the number of customers on the positive side of the WTP spectrum.
Seems like 2K found their sweet spot with VC pricing, limited MP characters to start, and then incentivize trying to climb various leaderboards. Throw in the YT "influencers" who champion max players, diff builds, etc -- and you have a monster of a business model.
There's going to be outliers tho, and those that just want to chill & play the game during downtime aren't Take Two's focus.
It sucks cuz those of us not willing to pay in terms of $$$, or fit into Take Two's DAU (daily active user) metric target numbers, just suffer -- or don't play the game at all, which won't make a dent...cuz Take Two are clearly hitting their targets with 2K.
It's just the cold shoulder of business.Comment

Nope, it's not even that either.

Bruh you are so so so right!!! Basketball is my life and I love playing videogames so I can't see a world where I don't have the best Nba basketball game on the market. It just so happens that game is 2k and like you said they found they're sweet spot. I broke down and spent $85 cold hard cash last night and the girl at gamestop finessed the system somehow (she broke it up and gave me 3 codes and I got 305,00). I upgraded my player as far as I could using all the attribute points I had AND I'M STILL ONLY A 85. But it's what I have to do tho, it's just sad that it's come to this.Comment

Last year was the first time I didn't buy 2k on launch since 2k6(waited for the 360 version instead of PS2/OG Xbox gen). This year I have no intention of doing so. As a fellow basketball and video game junkie it felt weird at first not buying 2k but seeing the complaints this year just reconfirmed my decision to skip this year and possibly the foreseeable futureComment

Re: Man... how important ARE badges?
I've bought a basketball game every year since '99, been buying 2k annually since '04 multiple years of purchasing on console and PC. With that being said as much joy we get from these games when ya feel like they are disrespecting you as a consumer with some of their tactics it's okay not to buy and support.

Yo real talk, you made the right decision my guy! This is the worse 2k in history not only cause of the micro transactions and everything that comes with that but also cause of the gameplay. I don't know why they felt the need to change it so drastically from nba 2k19. The gameplay feels clunky, there's too many times when myplayer starts doing unnecessary animations, and too badge driven in my most humble opinion. And not to mention all the capping that Ronnie2k did before the game was even released lol!!!Comment
