    Re: NBA 2K20 MyLeague Thread

I'm having a blast so far. I'm more invested in this MyLeague than I have been for any other since 2k15. My Sonics somehow, miraculously, got the #1 and #2 picks in the previous draft, and the #1 pick is a shoe in for rookie of the year; dude is a 6'10" 2 way 3 level scorer averaging 27 points a game, and just got his first 50 point game and first triple double (in the same game - it was a 50/10/10 game in Vegas) about halfway through the season. After being a bottom dwelling team in 20-21, 21-22 started rough with blowout losses to the 76ers and Timberwolves, but I ended up going on a couple long winning streaks, and now I sit at 26-8, and I'm 2nd in the West.

Crazy thing is, I have a really good shot at the #1 pick again. The Clippers went to the Finals in 19-20, and in 20-21, I acquired their unprotected 2022 1st pick. Seemed likely to be out of the lottery. Well, then they missed the playoffs in 2021. And then Paul George opted out and went to the Spurs, and Kawhi Leonard opted out and went with Lou Williams to the Cavs. And the Clippers (well, now the "Seals", as I moved them back to San Diego and rebranded) and horrendous (like 4-30 or something like that).

      Re: NBA 2K20 MyLeague Thread

Just started up a MyLeague with the Pacers that I plan on streaming games from - just gameplay, no extradiegetic commentary. Simmed the 2020 season to get through the bubble and start from the offseason. I won't be doing full 32 team control but will make trades, signings, etc. to keep things both interesting and realistic. Will post links to past streams and text updates here, starting with an off-season update before the season tips off against the Bucks on opening night.

The Pacers entered the offseason frustrated by the lack of opportunities to properly assess the Sabonis-Turner pairing. Injuries to each of the big men, in addition to the postponement of the end of the NBA season, meant that the two logged limited minutes together. The minutes that they did log, however, were promising. Sabonis blossomed as a throwback post-up big man, making the All Star game for the first time in his young career. Turner continued to play good defence, blocking shots at his usual high rate, and he also shot efficiently from behind the arc. The Myles Turner trade rumours have been circling for some time but, rather than breaking up the perceived log jam in the front court, the Pacers instead made the decision to double down and add to it.

Aaron Gordon has long been a target of the Pacers, so it wasn't a surprise to see him arrive in Indianapolis. What most would have expected to see, however, would have been Myles Turner, or even Damontas Sabonis, as part of Orlando's return package. Instead, the Pacers sent promising young point Aaron Holiday, utility swingman Jeremy Lamb, and lottery ticket TJ Leaf to the Magic, along with a lottery protected 2022 first round pick. The Magic's front court is as crowded as the Pacers, and they instead receive some much needed playmaking options in the back court, both of which can contribute immediately, and one of which has reasonable upside. In return, the Pacers get an athletic 6th man who can play alongside either Turner or Sabonis when the other is off the floor, and who can join TJ Warren as another capable wing defender. The Pacers also received the Lakers 2020 second round pick (30), and the Magic's 2023 second round pick in the deal.

The second move that the Pacers made to bolster their squad ahead of an important season was the addition of Jordan Clarkson on a 3 year deal worth $27m. Clarkson shot extremely well for the Jazz last season, and immediately fills the bench's scoring void after the departure of both Aaron Holiday and Jeremy Lamb.

After trading for Gordon, and paying Clarkson, the Pacers were already over the cap and only able to add to the fringes of their roster. They added point guard Tre Jones, and shooting guard Isaiah Joe, each in the second round of the NBA draft, and added Damyean Dotson to the rotation behind Doug McDermott. Dzanan Musa and Jaden McDaniels joined the squad as G-League free agents with some possible upside.

Looking forward to the season ahead, the Pacers hope that the pairing of Sabonis and Turner can continue to blossom, and that the two can log significant minutes together in the starting five. The addition of Aaron Gordon, however, will allow the team to close with a Gordon-Turner pairing that provides the defence and floor spacing that Sabonis does not. With so much scoring and offensive facilitation on the team, Victor Oladipo can focus on efficiency rather than usage, and can still make an invaluable contribution, even if he does not return to the All Star level of play of which he was once capable. The one real hole on the Pacers going into the season is the point guard position. Malcolm Brogdon will start, and TJ McConnell returns as a capable bench player. Rookie Tre Jones is the next option, however, so an injury to either Brogdon or McConnell likely means that Oladipo will be forced to run the point over Jones, who was the 26th pick in the second round of the draft. This may be enough, but adding a third capable point guard is something that the Pacers may view as a priority before the trade deadline.

The Pacers open their season tomorrow against the Milwaukee Bucks, whose off-season was focused entirely on surrounding Giannis with a roster capable of winning a title. If the Bucks are going to hold onto Giannis, winning a title this season seems almost imperative. If the Pacers are going to contend themselves, the path to the championship game almost certainly passes through Milwaukee. Each team will likely be treating the game as an early indication of how their off-season moves have set them up for the long season ahead.

              Re: NBA 2K20 MyLeague Thread

I'm another who only plays myleague mode, as I love the management/team building side of sports (I'm a Football Manager addict too).

Started an expansion league and added two teams - I brought the Sonics back to Seattle and also created a third LA team, the Fresno Hunters, who I am currently controlling.

I took George Hill, Delon Wright, Kris Dunn, Gary Trent Jr, Jeremy Lamb and Alex Len with my first six expansion draft picks, then filled the rest of the roster out with cheap, one-year guys. Around December we also managed to turn Trent into Robert Covington (with a few other bits and pieces) as the Rockets looked to shed salary.

First season finished 20-62, however only got the 7th pick. The two guys I wanted were off the board and my next two guys were slated to go a bit later, so I traded pick 7 and a future 2nd for picks 15 and 17 and managed to grab them both. Also signed Derrick Favors in free agency.

Second season was marginally better as we went 25-57 and got the 3rd pick. I didn't really like the draft class so went into trade finder, and managed to get Pascal Siakam for pick 3 and a lottery-protected future first. Toronto had missed the playoffs and were clearing capspace to eventually sign Kawhi again and I was happy to take on the $100m left on Siakam's contract. Also grabbed a promising point guard in the second round and signed another centre who went undrafted, both of whom have become solid rotation guys as rookies, so we basically came out of the draft with Siakam and two good prospects.

Nearing half way of my third season and we are 18-16. We are still a second star away from making any sort of noise but I am undecided as to whether that star should come through free agency or drafting.

Considering picking up 2k20 for the franchise mode and was curious as to how people like it. What are the good things and what issues have you run into?

I'm enjoying it, but I've found that I have to be pretty hands on with CPU teams in the offseason. They do some really stupid things left to their own devices. The Nuggets declining the option on an 84 overall Michael Porter's rookie contract. The Jazz not even making offers to Rudy Gobert or Donovan Mitchell. The Clippers not making offers to Kawhi or PG when they opted out (though even when I made the Clippers offer them max deals, they both left anyway). The Knicks being desperate to trade 85 overall Mitchell Robinson. Stuff that just doesn't make any sense.

But, overall, still having fun. I have a superstar rookie, and a second year Center that looks like a future All-Star. I went from the 5th worst record in the league to the best this year. Excited to see how far I can go with this franchise (I think the farthest I've gone with a franchise was getting to Year 6 in a Knicks franchise in 2k15).

                    Re: NBA 2K20 MyLeague Thread

For me it's definitely improving the generated draft classes, as they can really affect immersion.

                    - Too many international prospects in the lottery that can't join straightaway, yet are in the draft anyway
                    - Combo guards are always poor playmakers and you never seem to see point forwards
                    - Draft classes full of point guards who range from 5'9 - 6'0 and have wingspans to match - then when you use them they look like Muggsy Bogues
                    - Unrealistic stats. You end up with 30 guys in a draft class who averaged 20+ points, 10+ rebounds, multiple guys who averaged 10+ assists in the previous college season, which is ridiculous. International prospects are even worse, as they average the same numbers in European play!
                    - Unrealistic player weights - I've lost count of how many 6'6, 250 lbs shooting guard prospects I've seen. I end up having to go in and edit all the weights to make them realistic.
                    - Player models are terrible. Every second player has latino skin and that stupid wavy parted haircut.

It's a shame because a realistic draft class adds more to the mode for me than anything else, and instead I end up spending hours editing them.

Myleague is the only mode I play as well lol. I usually just sim and run through history to see superstar pairings that would never happen in real life.

Some of my favourites that I've seen were Hakeem Olajuwon and Karl Malone on the Spurs, Scottie Pippen, Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp on the Hornets and a young LeBron and CP3 on the Rockets

                        Re: NBA 2K20 MyLeague Thread

I am deep into the playoffs of the 6th season with my Baltimore Sharks. After a dominant regular season I sweeped the Magic in round one easily. The Bulls in the semis were a lot tougher. I won the first game (of a 3 game series), but collapsed late in the second. My star backcourt of Mannion and Avdija couldn't hit anything while LaVine and Coby White were lighting me up. I also missed my third option Josh Mackie due to injury.
So it came down to game 3. A loss in the semis would be a huge setback, the title is my only goal with this team as strong as it is right now. Both Avdija and Mannion came back strong and kept me in the lead up until the 4th quarter. Then I began to choke again. The Bulls came closer and closer, but a late run put me up ahead by seven with about 40 seconds to go. I honestly was pretty sure about the W by then. At least until Prince hit back to back threes and Avdija missed a pair of free throws. After Avdija couldnt hit the game winner it went into OT at 121 each.
But without White, who hurt himself late in the game, the Bulls' run was over. Mannion and Avdija finished strong and had a combined 75 points in the end. Now I meet up with long time rivals Boston in the conference finals. Meanwhile the Pelicans are going strong again in the West. This could very well be a rematch of last years finals. But this time, I need to win.

Good luck on the franchise. That being said, I would highly recommend doing this thread in the Basketball Dynasty section though and not on this thread. People will certainly follow along there, but this thread is more of a conversation about the mode and people giving input on things happening in someone else’s dynasty.

Again, good luck and post the link if you’d like, I’m sure people would be interested, but this isn’t quite the right spot for it.
