NBA 2K10 - Gameplay VIdeo - What is 2K10's legacy?

    Hi all,

I figured I would dust off NBA 2K10 and play a game against my brother. I am the Lakers in the video below, these are the game highlights.

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7DxQtpQH6wg" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

NBA 2K11 was obviously the game that lifted the franchise to a whole new level of dominance, and is the game that many call the greatest NBA video game ever made. 2K11 also marks the first game where Mike Wang was back with 2K, as he didn't play a part with NBA 2K10 (He worked on NBA Live 10)

However, before Mike Wang entered the scene, I believe that the team that worked on 2K10 did a lot of things right. The graphics/atmosphere really stand out, and some of the driving/dunk/dribble animations look pretty awesome.

The game has issues with gravity (being sucked in as a defender and sucked into the defense as the offensive player), but overall it plays a solid game of basketball.

Obviously with Kobe being the cover athlete (The last time he was other than the Legends cover for 2K17) gives the game a more special meaning now. I have it for the PC, and looking at the box art with Kobe on it obviously hits me a little different now.

What are your memories of NBA 2K10? And how do you feel it holds up to other NBA titles on last gen and this gen?

Amazing how well that game holds up. Good post . 11 is still my fav. But in 10 the foundation for the gameplay was solidified with that game . Interesting factoid , 2k10 was the only game where Mike Wang was not involved. He worked for EA that one and only year and was considered the last NBA live game. (10)

      Agreed about the foundation.

I guess you could say that 2K10 had a more "arcade" approach to the actually gameplay than 2K11. As far as the way the game felt on the sticks.

Also, 2K20 actually suffers a bit from the "being sucked in" gravity problem that 2K10 has. In 2K20 you are often sucked into players around you which can get pretty frustrating.

I also played 2K9 recently, and I can see why reviewers had stated that they didnt believe the jump gameplay wise from 2K9 to 2K10 was significant. Both games feel very similar on the sticks, with 2K10 having a bit more of the forced gravity issue.

The graphics on 2K10 are actually better IMO than 2K11 through 2K13. The body types, close ups, lighting, etc.

It's also a time when 2k focused on modes that didn't focus on VC. A couple years later it all changed with my career. I find the modes far more enjoyable on those old games. I think 2k13 was the first year they offered VC. For me,. That was the beginning of the end what I called 2ks glory days. Gameplay was incredible. 2k20 impresses me gameplay wise though I have to admit. The best it's played in a long time.
