Help defense. Same story every single year...

so, also this year I have to surrender to the fact that there is no solution to the lack of defensive help?
Last year, but also in recent years, at some point I quitted playing this game because I couldn't take it anymore. What is the 2k problem in finding a solution to this? Maybe I think I have the answer: it's easy to be the best basketball simulation in the world when you're the only one on the market, you can continue to serve the same heated soup every time without ceasing to be.

I mean, I don't really have anything to add but I definitely agree. Help defense has been terrible for a while.

I think it was 2k16 or 2k17 where your center would randomly start backing up like 5 feet when guarding someone in the paint, leading to uncontested layups. It drove me insane but I was excited to see how the series would be after it worked out some odd kinks. Had no idea that those problems and many more (mostly defensively) would still destroy all of my enjoyment of the game several years later. Checked this year's game out from the library and played maybe two games before I just couldn't do it anymore.

I'm glad that there seems to be so many people that love the game this year, but man the defense kills it for me.

Isnt that how the real NBA is? there's no defense! I try and watch it but it just bugs me too much. players today couldn't last in the 80s NBA. Bill Lambeer would have a field day.

I know it's looked down on, but this is why people play off ball defense. It balances out the defense quite a bit. The computer's on ball defense is miles ahead of its off ball defense.

It's sad because help d is 80 percent of how defense is played and it's just almost non existent in 2K. This is why everyone hated 2K18. The on ball d wasn't the main issue. It was the help. A ton of easy drive to the rim with no rotations (or the wrong ones).

Its funny, the complaint used to be that the help defense was too aggressive.

I dont envy the developers trying to implement help & transisiton defense in this age of basketball where the floor is so spread. I'm surprised many think it's simple. Theres a lot that goes into help philosophies, and a lot of human element that's hard to translate.

It's definitely lacking in some areas. I hope its something they can figure out and have a nice realism/game balance. I definitely wouldnt say it's even in the same parking lot as 2K18 though.

The only way I've seen help defense is to set the Force Direction under the Defensive Settings (I usually force baseline). I haven't seen it work when set to Auto yet.

If you actually force to where the help is supposed to come from it should come. Below I'm controlling the Knicks (kind of let Zach get by me to illustrate the help coming):
