Positional Pick & Roll Controls - Lets change this crap

Just NBA2K21 suggestion from the community....

Let users press down on the Left Stick (L) to bring up the Gameplay HUD. That frees up the up [emoji3595] D-pad to call quick plays. This all let’s us return to using LB/L1 for positional pick control and confines all coaching adjustments to the d-pad.

Also this year we have to have the Gameplay HUD up to see offensive and defensive play call messages. Why? This is not sim.

If I have one major complaint about the game it’s that every year they feel the need to change controls in some way. Even on the simple stuff like menu navigation. One year it’s the dpad to move around, the next it’s a bumper button.

Playcalling is no different and it tells me that the guys who build the playcalling controls never play the actual game.

They should let us assign our own buttons.

Good luck with this one lol.

I feel you coach but this year with the new quick plays feature a change was necessary. They just made the wrong one. I think had the most fun playcalling in 2K16 with the Up button on the D-Pad to call smart plays. But anyway I guarantee that the experience would be a lot better if they made these changes.

Re: Positional Pick & Roll Controls - Lets change this crap

I think someone in another thread said. I think if your going to make a change. Give us options! Just don't lock is into a path. If you like favorite plays. Cool. If you like positional plays. That's cool too.

And totally agree with the post about someone making the change who has never played this game before. It's how I felt about the green Release. Why in ****ing world would someone think changing that so you know a shot is going in? You must of never played 2k before if you think that's a good idea. What's really shocking is there was probably a meeting about this. And others must of agreed with this BS.

What's really sad is not being able to attach mismatches. You can send someone into the post easily. And finally watching big men who can't shot run around screens like they were Reggie Miller is down right sad.

Definitely hate that damn green release thing. It is an abomination to sim basketball. I blame a lot of this on the myteam/myplayer explosion that leaves the game looking more like NBA jam. But the money they spend funds the resources needed to maintain all the stuff I love like classic freelances and plays.

But I don’t want to stray too much off topic. I just hope the devs are watching and can address these simple fixes that go a long way.

The green release is NEVER going to leave the game at this point lol. They use it in advertising now and its a popular thing in the 2k streaming community. Those people make 2k the most money and there is no way in hell they are gonna do something that the majority of them would hate

2k17 was the most intuitive one and it was so fast to call anything but the so called community killed it.

Just give us the options. There should be a pro No HUD feature. Someone who plays the game that much shouldn't need prompts. Same goes for the controller scheme. Just like it was before and now. We shouldn't be locked into the shot stick or a shot button. We still keep that option.

And guys you don't have to tell me about users outside of these walls lol. I know full well that you just need to follow the money. But calling plays is by far the biggest thing. And it shouldn't have to be set up each and every game. That's the worst part about it. The other worst part is that it doesn't always recognize your button press. That's a killer in my opinion.

for me personally it was the worst of all , the piechart selection . Every year i play with extensive use of manual sub/strategy menus and its been slowest and most frustrating method although 2k20 setup is almost just as bad.

2k11-2k15 era had it best, using arrow keys mostly to issue commands I never understood the need to change interface while it worked well just for sake of it. Could also change offensive strategy while opponent on offense (or vice versa), could be used to do adjustments when its FT time.

Of course , having a setting to change between legacy and new way of doing it would be the best.

Agree! I do agree with him that 2k17 probably had the best of all of them. If your going to change something so big. Leave the option to go back to the old style. Just don't close us out and give no reason for the change. The only reason we have a shot button is to keep the general public interested.

If you want Sim play. Make it easy.

The piecharts were horrible. Not only was it very inaccurate and sometimes you subbed in the wrong player but also it took me forever to see, which player I subbed in, as the text was written upside down on some "pie fields".

2k11-2k15 was the very best there ever was. No problems that you could not sub in one of your players because he does not appear in the top 5 selections, you saw the stamina, you could access anything at any time.

2K is overthinking this. First off that new Quick Actions menu or whatever they call it should not take precedence over the quick plays. When I tap LB I should see the icons over my players heads and from there I can choose to call a positional pick and roll or specific plays for whichever player I choose. Having to tap LB and then RB again to call a positional pick and roll is just bad design like a lot of the in game menus in this game.

They literally just need to copy/paste 2K16's menu design but just use the D-Pad instead of the right stick. That's it. In 16 as soon as I got the ball I could set up my freelances, spacing and my offensive and defensive gameplan in a matter of seconds.

Look at how quick and snappy the menu is. In about 2 seconds I was able to choose freelance and spacing. Good luck doing it that fast in 2K20. Everytime you press a button there's an annoying delay and the menu closes everytime you choose an option. Not to mention you have to waste a possession on defense setting up your defensive gameplans and rebounding options when you used to be able to do that in the pre-game menus. Just terrible design decisions and don't even get me started on that awful timeout menu.

That's exactly what I was saying. The biggest problem is response. You can't bring in a new design and then it doesn't work like it suppose to. No one will like it.

I think the problem I remember people had was that they couldn't dribble while the play menu was up. But I had no problem with it.

That's a strange complaint lol. Every time you see a point guard call a play they usually stand still and use a hand symbol for the play.
