What the hell is that Virtual Basketball demo? It doesn't seem like it's a video game but used for gambling.

That engine is insane. The graphics and shooting animations are a little wonky but so many things that 2K does horribly (contextual passing and catching animations, foot-planting, warping/sliding) are on point in that video.

As others have said, it seems to be a scripted video, so it wouldn't really be comparable to a game that requires user input. It's more comparable to the cut scenes we'd get in The Prelude each year, like this for example.

It would be awesome if 2K can add all those subtle animations to give the players more life. For example, early in the clip how the defenders head sorta keeps an eye on the ball handler and the guy he's covering. That subtle head swivel.

yes. all those little nuances, brings life to the players. Every players motion and actions look organic and unattached to other players.

I actually think this is real players that were drawn over with computer graphics. not motion capture.
the motions are too life like.

Yeah the last screen makes it seems like it's gambling related. I don't know much about gambling but I know of virtual horse races and such, which have been around for years. For such a powerful and well funded industry, this COVID-19 stuff basically poses their biggest operational risks possible - even those gambling companies who try to diversify regionally would be hit hard.

So I wouldn't be surprised if, right now, they are busy working on how they can minimize this impact going forward with virtual gambling options just like this - they certainly have the resources to do it. It wouldn't be a game per se, as it wouldn't work by processing human user input (which I think we can quite clearly see this "gameplay" does not, it's just too smooth). If I had to guess, it isn't real-time CPU v CPU either but more a stitching together of possible sequences that are randomly chosen, that just happen to be very seamless and visually smooth.

If I were a gambler, I'd watch that and think it is close to the real thing. In time, they could introduce virtual personalities and superstars, so it isn't just random (like a poker machine, at least in theory) but a mixture of random outcomes with better odds on certain outcomes based on which character is doing it. They could then build the next MJ, just virtually in their own basketball universe.

Not everyone will get on board but I think enough people will for it to work - if you make it look real enough and sell other stuff around the games, some people will get into it.

Is the third page of this thread tripping out for anybody? It shows a clip of MyPlayer and the clip takes up the whole page. I'm on mobile btw.

In all likelihood, the game will look something in between that jaw dropping 2K21 render an the current gen.

                          Yeah that's what I'm thinking....

I think this trailer is just next gen 2K21 maxed out graphically. Throw in a full arena full of people, coaches, players etc. and I think it reduces in quality.

I don't think this Zion clip is CGI though (like a few others are saying).

The trailer is not gameplay. It is what developers often call in-engine footage.

Gameplay Will look nothing like the trailer, trust me. Developers have done this for years. Cant believe people keep Falling for it.

Do you know of an instance where 2K has done this with an NBA game? If so, please link if possible?

                              Thanks.

They have done it with a cutscenes in mycareer mode. There been some rendered basketball sequences on the same engine featuring animations that wasnt part of gameplay.

I've broke whole page trying to post video link hope it works fine now under spoiler :
