re: NBA 2K21 Last Gen Impressions

Quick impressions after two hours of quick play against All-Star AI:

    Positives:
    - Graphics on the court look a bit sharper
    - AI offense is more dynamic and challenging
    - More freedom of movement and slightly faster pace of play

    Negatives:
    - Too much sliding in player movements
    - CPU double teams are back with a vengeance (They need to rip this code out and re-write it, or remove it entirely. I play with the Warriors and almost every possession the CPU AI is leaving their man to run all over the court to chase Steph Curry, they’ll run right off Klay leaving him wide open consistently)

Overall, it’s a more polished game with very few changes. I would be fine with that except for the fact the CPU double team are still terrible.

I’m looking forward to Next-Gen knowing that player movement is a major focus. Keeping my fingers crosses the CPU double teams are fixed in Next-Gen.

re: NBA 2K21 Last Gen Impressions

I've been playing since yesterday morning, I swear I wasn't having as much difficulty shooting then as I am now. Went like 1/15 in a PNO match. Did the day 1 nuke shooting or something? Damn, lol

Anyway, my overall takeaway from 2K21 has been pretty positive.

If you think its the same game as 2K20, you may not have played 2K20 enough...definitely no huge visual upgrades or new game mode, but I am moreso interested in the basketball side. I could tell the difference the very first time I ran a pick and roll. The movement and momentum system feels really good. The spacing and teamate movement is far beyond 20. It's not perfect but players do a much better job of naturally finding space and creating offense.

Finishing at the rim was one of my least favorite things about 2K20...felt like a crap shoot. '21 has done a good job of making it skill based so that talented finishers can convert at the rim.

Please let me know your thoughts on this. It has been a game killer for me the past few years.

Can we also talk about the players who were not updated and the players that were caps last year are caps again this year. It gets really frustrating.

As awesome as the new finishing system is, shooting is so messed up right now I had to go meter off. It definitely feels better... I'm actually able to hit some shots now lol

re: NBA 2K21 Last Gen Impressions

              1. They have the perfect releases on HOF perfect. It is very difficult to get a perfect release on any jump shot on HOF. If they can keep the green release probability to what it is today, then the green release problem for “USERS” has been solved.

              2. The referees and foul calls are so much better on jump shots, and pumpfakes around the rim. This greatly affects gameplay in a positive way. It allows space on jumpers. Minimizes bogus turbo closeouts, and allows for less chaos around the rim. I had a 3 point shot that was blocked by Giannis vs Huerter and the refs called a ticky tack foul on a 3 point shot.

              3. The off ball defenders still hug perimeter players to close even when on Gap coverage, and the help defense seems to slow still. However, I need to play more to confirm the help defense.

              4. We still don’t have coaching sliders in the scrimmage menu, and thus it probably means we can change them for CPU teams we play against.

              5. It is easier to aim on jumpers with people with slower releases.

              Questions:

              1. Can we play RS% in online vs. user game.
              2. Has anyone been able to pull a floater from free throw line range or is it always a runner?
              3. Is anyone else having a problem with seeing the shot meter on broadcast mode. I usually play on 4 zoom, and my old eyes are struggling.

Is body style glitched?? I chose built for my 6'5 PG. Granted I used minimum weight at 175 but in the my player builder he was still built. In the game though my guy is an absolute twig with 0 muscle

Can’t seem to pull off the side step and step backs from a standing dribble position like in the demo. Anyone else seeing this?

Man. I thought I was the only person. I can get the step backs. However, the sidestep jumpers are a no go for me. I thought it was an animation issue with my player. Have you tried the side step jumpers with Kaiwhi and PG?

Yup. Went back with both of them and it’s impossible to do no matter what combination of shooting settings you pick.

I like what i'm seeing so far. Wasn't expecting much difference from 2K20 but the game feels better. The difficulty (started at AS then changed to SS) feels good but playing as the Sixers, by the 3rd quarter I was torching the CPU with Ben Simmons. I was able do dunk whenever I wanted to... so easy.

So, to me the overall difficulty is good but some players (maybe because of the finishing badges?) are too OP. Didn't try HOF yet.

                          Makes sense now.

Haven't really labbed since I got the game, went straight to the action.

That's crazy, hopefully Mike seems this, I will shoot him a message.

The side steps were NICE in the demo.

Lots I like about the game. Player movement is definitely improved and the actions by teammates and CPU opposing team is waaaay better than before. Faster players seem to attack mismatches more quickly and drive. Seeing some better help defense that leads to more realistic kick-out passes to corners.

I play on broadcast cam, so shot-aiming is a no-go for me. Just impossible to figure out on that angle. I’ll try it when I play MyCareer though.

My problem is that I was also a shot stick guy and now that is impossible whether I turn it to absolute or camera relative, my player makes a dribble move instead of attempting a shot now more often than not.

I’ll keep playing around and see if I can figure it out but might end up being a shot button player before too long.

And shooting percentages are pretty weird but I have a very small sample size. I expect myself to be shooting 30-35% from the field as I’m learning and trying out things, but the CPU I’ve been holding to similar percentages. Nice to see them actually missing but now it seems to be a bit too often. Again, small sample size and I’m hoping to see some improvement as I play more games. Playing against Harden or Tatum, it’s cool to really see the CPU look for their shots but it’s also been a whole lot of bricks for them sadly.

This was an issue in the demo as well. Seems like the floater game is pretty much gone as a result of this; there's no point in doing floaters at the ranges that you can get them right now.
