Because perhaps 2K 'just' pay the NBA Licence and the NBA pays the NBRPA without taking into account this "new media" (for old players i mean) which is the video game.
Those kind of practice happened in TV industry when old tv shows were reissue on external media (VHS/DVD/BR). Initial contract were just about TV (re)broadcastand, and lot of actors arned nothing on media sales.

We can revisit the history of the United States to figure that one out. Being able to sit on my *** and play a video game with a ton of classic teams is a pretty low priority compared to real life.
Isn't that a union & retired players association issue not a NBA 2K created problem.

I believe that issue has existed throughout all major U.S. based sports, so placing the onus on 2K to right those previous wrongs is ridiculous.

Also, the last CBA agreement (after the massive television deal) did more than ever before to have better benefits/incentives for retired players.

It is a known fact that 2K has a separate agreement with the retired players association.

Just like Madden does with the HOF & the NFL retired players association.

No need for sources when it is a stated & proven fact.

I’m going to enjoy the classic teams as long as I can with or without Barkley. If having the players starts to effect 2k profits, regardless of how big they are, I’d look for them to fade away.

          Good for Barkley

2k is making money by selling the games and entertaining us with the Classic players, many of whom never had the chance to make the money near.... Anywhere near... What they earn today

So yea. Make a danged donation 2k.

This is so preposterous. As if 2K is going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to get one player in the game.

I think he’s coming from a good place but it’s not really realistic. He’d be better off taking whatever 2K gave him for a realistic fee and setting up a fund for those players.

Actually, he was only asking for 1 million dollars to be donated to the old timers retirement help program.

It's a program that helps in need old players. The league should actually be doing more but Barkley is not out of line with 1 million imo

Again, the players association is doing more. They have upped how much they add to the pool of money (considerably) for retired players.

If they want more they can join the retired players' association (for licensing) & get those royalties too.

Just handing out a million dollars annually to get just Barkley isn't a sound business decision. Especially, when 2K already has an agreement in place with retired players that choose to join the non-profit.
