Dude, I really don't care anymore about bashing NBA 2K for every little thing that goes against the consumer and calling them greedy. I care about the gameplay. Getting ads during a section of the game where I can't do anything anyways is not the end of the world for me.

Re: NBA 2K21 Quietly Adds Unskippable Ads
Ok, I just saw this "unskippable" ad. Its 15 seconds top! I got through the ad and up to the part where Chris talks about Maria Taylor before I was able to start the game. Is during the loading screen that you have to sit through, anyway.

Honestly, I'm more irritated by the fact you can't select which loading screens you want anymore. I didn't mind it so much when Rachel was the host, but this new chick and Chris get on my nerves.Comment

Haha. So you know when and where a game actually needs to load and where 2k just put unskippable ads in and tell you it’s a loading screen?Dude, I really don't care anymore about bashing NBA 2K for every little thing that goes against the consumer and calling them greedy. Gameplay isn’t there yet and now unskippable ads, surely your “care” for this game is dwindlingComment

Re: NBA 2K21 Quietly Adds Unskippable Ads
Well...Junior Moe just confirmed where the ad is it. It's during the 2KTV loading screen.
As for the game, I didn't buy NBA 2K21, because I'm planning to get the next-gen version. Having said that...IF they put those unskippable ads in the next-gen version, then I'm going to raise hell. One of the bigger selling points (for me anyways) is the faster (if any) loading screens. If I'm "forced" to watch a 10-20 second ad instead of seeing a 2-5 second loading screen, then that's what I consider to be anti-consumer.Comment

Re: NBA 2K21 Quietly Adds Unskippable Ads
Yeah, I remember when we could select whether we wanted to see 2KTV or not. They took the option away a few years ago. It irked me some but I'm waiting all the same so its whatever. Sometimes I'm able to grab a little VC in the process by answering a question. I didn't care when they had the other woman or Chris and the current cohost. I skip it the second I'm able to unless its Czar or OG giving gameplay tips. I will skip these ads just as quick.
I dont like MUT cards and junk plastered in my face the second I load into Madden, or unlocking a stub or some card in The Show as a reward for playing 7 days or whatever it is. I'm used to it now though and it doesn't affect my enjoyment of those games. It's a button press away for me and I don't give it a second thought. Is it greedy and manipulative? I don't know and I dont care, that's not my fight. Spend your money and time how you see fit. It doesn't affect me one way or the other. How well the game sells or the company does or doesn't do isnt my problem.

Re: NBA 2K21 Quietly Adds Unskippable Ads
I saw the ad yesterday, but after firing up the game today and restarting the game, I haven't seen the ad again. Has anyone seen the ad more than once? I've restarted 2K and I've even restarted my PS4, with no ad showing.Comment

Re: NBA 2K21 Quietly Adds Unskippable Ads
Has any1 seen or heard or watched ads over Netflix or Spotify when you pay for it? No.
No consumers pay any price to a game to watch an ad. I don't care if it takes the loading times or not. I got the game that i already paid for, no ads allowed, if you make your game free to play then it's ok which 2k is not.
This is only showing what 2k has become over the years and their mindset, that's all.Comment

Re: NBA 2K21 Quietly Adds Unskippable Ads
Coming here or other sites everyday and complaining about 2K as a company may make you personally feel better, like you're sticking it to the man and telling it like it is....but in the end, you're no 'better' than anyone else who has a different opinion on the ads.....if you're still buying the game.
When you and that person show up on 2K's report, you'll be completely identical.
"Unit sold". Not "Unit sold and showd us who's boss in the comment section"
So let people feel how they feel. The important thing is, if this is a major thing for you....is that a major outlet like IGN is covering it.Last edited by The 24th Letter; 10-19-2020, 04:39 PM.Comment

Spotify/YouTube Premium bypass ads with "sponsors".
Hulu Plus still have "required ads" on certain shows.
Videogames have always had product placement in some shape or form.
At least NBA 2K is putting the ad in a spot where it's not "interrupting" my experience.Comment

I started a Quick Game just to see what all this was about. Started about 5-6 games after to record it and couldn't trigger it again.Comment

It's just getting to the point where I feel like people just want to be mad and upset about every little thing that 2K does (good or bad).Comment

No 'paid video games' are and should be allowed to make you watch any ad, any time in your game anywhere, period.Netflix doesn't have ads.

Whatever you pay on a membership scale in Netflix or Spotify you don't get ads as you paid for the service already. That's that.Comment

Re: NBA 2K21 Quietly Adds Unskippable Ads
I understand the issue from the "What's next?"/ "Inch-Mile" aspect of it all...but tbh, if I had saw it before the article I probably wouldn't have even realized I watched it yet.
People can feel how they feel though.
