Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Video with the Developers - New Game Modes & Features
I wasn’t very impressed with the gameplay. The graphics look good, but there were some parts where the players were standing there kind of awkwardly.
The animations looked virtually identical to last-gen — a little choppy, and there really isn’t any visible improvement over last gen in terms of how they move (perhaps foot planting aside).Comment

This x1000
I don't think a lot people understand how much the lack of rotations/help defense is sucking the fun out of this game. It's why we've seen so much nerfing of offensive animations and boosted on-ball defense to balance the game in past 2k's.
Tags on rolls, nail help on middle drives, trapping the box on baseline drives
(the weakside low man sinking as the big comes over to protect the rim--2nd defender zones up and takes first pass followed by X-outs (weakside switches)....etc....there's next to none of this is happening in 2k.
Just hope it was a programming restriction on last gen and we start to see this stuff implemented in the future. I trust Mike Wang, DCzar and the rest of the gameplay design team knows how much new life it would breath into this game.
Add that to the fact that 2K's shooting is probably in the worst place its been since the series began. I'm definitely good. You guys let me know how it goes tho.Last edited by Kushmir; 10-30-2020, 03:21 PM.NOTE: Any and ALL of my suggestions are specifically and only related to Play Now Online.Comment

Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Video with the Developers - New Game Modes & Features
In terms of some of the comments about game atmosphere, do people want the fans to go crazy after every basket the entire game? I think a big alley oop is one thing but in real life the first quarter of a regular season NBA game would have more fans missing as they are still getting to their seats lol. I wonder if the crowd gets more into it later in the game or if there is a difference between a playoff game?
1. The actual sound of the crowd. For the longest time I've felt the crowd sounds artificial. This is an area I think the Live games have done a better job of actually sounding like a real life crowd. Others might disagree but just how I feel.
2. Reacting appropriately. This is a mixed bag. Sometimes the crowd gets loud when they should or is quiet at appropriate times. But other times it's off and they are quiet when they shouldn't be or overreacting to plays.
3. Chants and Arena sounds. This is an area that needs a big improvement. Games like Fifa and PES do a good job of getting real life arena chants in their games. A lot of fans know what their home arenas sound like and it can be grating hearing chants that home crowds don't actually do. I can understand if they aren't allowed to use certain PA sounds or cues from arenas but there shouldn't be an issue with using the actual chants that certain crowds have.Comment

Here's what my issue has been with crowd and atmosphere over the years:

3. They have tons of arena specific PA cues and chants, there’s thousands of them.. not up to date enough for you?Comment

Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Video with the Developers - New Game Modes & Features
Huh? Fast load times is an indication of better hardware. Games didn't have much "load times" back then, because the games wasn't as "complex". As the game got more complex, we started seeing more and more loading screens. Now, the next-gen console have technology that can load those "complex" worlds quicker.
Fallout New Vegas had long load times when you entered or exited a building, but if I play it today on my computer the load time is a fraction of it. GTA IV, or Red Dead Redemption 2, takes a relatively long time to load on the PS4, even though it was developed for that specific hardware.
That's what I'm saying. The ultra quick load time we saw from team select screen to in game tells me that this is more or less just a graphics upgrade instead of a whole next-gen overhaul of a game. What we know so far about NBA 2K14 - FAQ/QA:

Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Video with the Dev
You're triggering yourself.
He literally asked question and gave his take on it. Not everyone offering an opinion other than a critical one is being condescending.
but to actually answer Rudy's question-
I know you played Live 19 like me, where they were probably a bit overboard with the atmosphere that particular year. I definitely dont want that...
but the very first highlight here is a good example IMO

My reply wasn’t meant to trigger or diss Optik lol. I wasn’t even criticizing his take. I was just looking for clarity of expectations. I have zero issues with criticism of games. I personally don’t think the video clip is long enough to make strong conclusions about a lot of things.Comment

Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Video with the Developers - New Game Modes & Features
That's not what I mean. Back then, ten years ago, if you played a new game on the hardware of the time you did have long loading times. If you played it today on a new machine you get short load times, because the computer loads an older game faster since, as you say, it wasn't as complex as today.
Fallout New Vegas had long load times when you entered or exited a building, but if I play it today on my computer the load time is a fraction of it. GTA IV, or Red Dead Redemption 2, takes a relatively long time to load on the PS4, even though it was developed for that specific hardware.

You do realize that one of the major selling points of these next gen consoles is blazing fast load times for every game, and not just 2K, right?

Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Video with the Developers - New Game Modes & Features
I could be wrong but looking at the video, where you still have cutaways and replays being choppy, it tells me they are still using alot of the same code as they do for current gen, because it has been that way for years. There is no reason replays should be choppy, even on a Ps4 or PC.What we know so far about NBA 2K14 - FAQ/QA:

Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Video with the Developers - New Game Modes & Features
Everything looks great. The only weird glitchy part I noticed was when Ingram and Holiday were just standing there and were wavering side to side which was really odd. Nevertheless my hyped to get it say one.

Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Video with the Developers - New Game Modes & Features
Gameplay looks pretty solid, the court and lighting is just amazing..
But there is a certain degree of looking cartoon-ish (for lack of a better word) that I just didn't expect when the jump to next gen happened. Maybe it's just something that will work itself out over the next couple of years though. It's there with the players but especially there with Allie LaForce, it's not bad it just feels like a cross between real life and a Disney character. She definitely doesn't look "next gen", she hardly looks current gen.
Steph's random hunched over dribbling pre-game looks strange. And around the 40 second mark Jrue and BI are both rocking side to side in the same exact rhythm with the same expressions and head movements.... Just looks like something you would expect from way back in 2k6 or something like they had just added pre-game scenes, not something they've been working on for 20 years and now have "next gen" capabilities and it's still bad.
In the little footage I've seen the hands seem off too. Not grabbing the rims during dunks, Zion is adjusting his shorts around the 1 minute mark but isn't actually touching/doing anything, looks like his hands are stiff with frostbite or something. Not enough close ups to see how they look when catching a pass or dribbling.. It's weird because it seems like that's something that has taken a step backwards for whatever reason.
Crowd still looks pretty stale.
I'm usually in here every year telling everyone griping that they are being ridiculous and that the game looks amazing given the capabilities.. But I find myself on the other side this year. Perhaps I expected too much from "next gen" but I'm just not overly impressed with what little I've seen thus far. This seems like a substantially smaller jump than the jump to 2k14, I think everyone was blown away with that jump.Last edited by ojandpizza; 10-28-2020, 06:41 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Gameplay Video with the Developers - New Game Modes & Features
Yes of course, but that's a selling point of every new console. There is no way that 2K22 or 23 will load that fast.

That’s the result of the SSD, not the amount of information the game needs to load. It can load up to 10 times faster than an HDD. You’re not going to suddenly see 40GB games go to 400GB in a couple of months. You won’t see that for years, if not decades. Even if games have doubled in size by the end of this generation, loading will still be way faster than anything we experienced in current gen.
