created a players and unscanned faces are the same and will have the generic head presets from the past 2 games. They will look even worst now next to the improved next gen models.

These screenshots do a great job of showing the cartoonish effect I was referencing in my post. I’m not sure what it is but it’s almost like there is a semi-cartoony filter overlaying everything on the floor. Klay and Jrue don’t look like a good representation of actual skin texture at all IMO..

This is stolen from a post in the Kobe updated thread, but look at the skin texturing of Kobe from 2k14 compared to that screenshot posted of Klay, or just any of the footage we’ve seen from next gen. Keep in mind this is 7 games ago, previous gen capabilities, I definitely was expecting something a bit better than what I’ve seen thus far.

Perhaps 2k is doing this because there is most certainly a almost cartoon-like appearance to my player story characters and all the park modes and stuff... but I feel as if their focus should be aiming to make that more realistic rather than overlaying the real game with a slight cartoonish looking filter effect.

A lot of what I’m talking about seems a bit better the closer you get, but gets worse during gameplay. And perhaps it’s something they are also still refining at this late stage.

But there is a certain degree of looking cartoon-ish (for lack of a better word) that I just didn't expect when the jump to next gen happened. Maybe it's just something that will work itself out over the next couple of years though. It's there with the players but especially there with Allie LaForce, it's not bad it just feels like a cross between real life and a Disney character. She definitely doesn't look "next gen", she hardly looks current gen.

Steph's random hunched over dribbling pre-game looks strange. And around the 40 second mark Jrue and BI are both rocking side to side in the same exact rhythm with the same expressions and head movements.... Just looks like something you would expect from way back in 2k6 or something like they had just added pre-game scenes, not something they've been working on for 20 years and now have "next gen" capabilities and it's still bad.

In the little footage I've seen the hands seem off too. Not grabbing the rims during dunks, Zion is adjusting his shorts around the 1 minute mark but isn't actually touching/doing anything, looks like his hands are stiff with frostbite or something. Not enough close ups to see how they look when catching a pass or dribbling.. It's weird because it seems like that's something that has taken a step backwards for whatever reason.

      Crowd still looks pretty stale.

I'm usually in here every year telling everyone griping that they are being ridiculous and that the game looks amazing given the capabilities.. But I find myself on the other side this year. Perhaps I expected too much from "next gen" but I'm just not overly impressed with what little I've seen thus far. This seems like a substantially smaller jump than the jump to 2k14, I think everyone was blown away with that jump.

This stuff is a lot worse in other third person games, for example feet going into the floor when walking or feet not touching stairs. Another example would be going into cover, in games like Metal Gear Solid 5 or Assassins Creed (before Origins), their backs and hand are clearly not touching anything.

It won't bother you unless you go in replay and look at it closely.

Perhaps I am, but it also depends what parts of my post you’re referencing. If you’re strictly talking about the hands 2k has had plenty of their previous games with hands that moved and interacted better than I’ve seen in some of these clips. They have had games in the past where players would “grab” the rim and not just slap in its general direction. 2k knows it’s an issue too, even back on the trailer the scene cuts away from Dame and Zion before each of them actually finish their dunks.

The Zion scene, maybe they can’t do better, but that scene doesn’t have to be there at all. He could have been stretching, or anything else other than looking like he has on mittens and is patting lint off the bottom of his jersey in an attempt to make him look as if he’s fixing his shorts.

Saying it won’t bother me unless I go back and look at a relay might be true in most instances, but it bothered me watching this clip and they weren’t going back and watching a slow motion replay..

I just can’t picture how we have cut scenes of Luka dapping up Cuban, camera man grabbing their camera and hands wrapping around the parts of it, floor guy sweeping the floor with his hands wrapped around the mop, mouth pieces hanging out of mouths, but lack consistency good grab animations and not have Zion actually be able to grab at his shorts, etc.

It’s fine if this is where we are, but my expectations of what next gen would look like just weren’t this. That’s all I’m saying. It’s hard to say I’m nitpicking when we may/may not have had the same expectations coming into this. All the talk about how much more detailed and stuff for next gen games and the only thing that really blew me away in terms of “next gen detail” is the net. I expected most everything to look as improved as the net is. Like I said from the jump, perhaps my expectations were just too high, I won’t know until I’ve got my hands on other next gen titles to compare.

Looked alright but with the extra processing i hope future games use it to expand the AIs decision making during play. All the presentation stuff is nice but at the end of the day I'm a lifelong bball fan that wants some more NBA realism.

Introduce actions like the AI recognizing switching out large mismatches for a more ideal matchup (i.e centre gets switched onto the PG after a pick, then the PF runs over to switch with the PG who is now on the centre before the other team gets a chance to throw it down low and take advantage), some of the defensive schemes the Raptors play (box and 1, 3-2 zone with a big in the middle and the sf down low with the C etc)

On the offensive end I'd like them to go even crazier with how far they can get tendencies adjusted so that we actually get a player to play exactly like an NBA scouting report would tell you. Like imagine watching the CPU play with the Raptors and I notice that Lowry is programmed to look for contact on drives or actually knows how to draw charges in the right situation (that badge was useless in 2k20) or you watch CP3 and see him get a C on a switch during PNR and dance a little before going for that elbow midrange fadeaway.

It looked like a wrist slam which happens in real life. I'm sure they have one and two handers that show the rim appearing to be grabbed.

I do agree with you on what you said about the hunched over dribbling by Steph, but I'm not sure if you are taking about the pregame warm-ups or during the game when he walked the ball up the floor.

                On the wnba video.
That floater makes me think they didn't work on it.
Floaters need a complete revamp in 2k. The animations and footwork are so bad on them. Hopefully they worked on it .

Maybe someone has already mentioned this I didn't sort through all the comments and this is being a bit nitpicky and not even gameplay related maybe but from the looks of it one of the ways we may be getting more people and action on the court pregame is by using the exact same animation sequences for players.  If you watch the wide shot you see obvious players in the same point of the left hand dribble animation.  To me it's odd seeing so many figure in that same dribble loop.  Then on the close up of Ingram he and Jrue Holiday are swaying at the exact same speed and motion.  Obviously whatever animation or motion capture they used is on a loop and at the same speed.  I don't know when those kick in but even if the speed and movement was the same but they were each in different parts of the animation it would looks so much better.  I'm not sure when those kick in.  Looks bad.

Even if games have doubled in size by the end of this generation, loading will still be way faster than anything we experienced in current gen.

I totally agree with your post. I don't think game will balloon to 400gb in a couple of months, but I do think games will be 200gb after installation in a couple of years. Just look at Red Dead Redemption 2 which is 150gb when installed.

so the big news is that the wnba mode has been expanded? I mean thats cool and all but honestly how many of us will spend more than 5 mins using WNBA players? I can name maybe 3.....Troydan who is a big nba2k youtubber- mentioned in a video, about some big news we will all love about 2k--- I cant assume this is it. has to be more coming.

Cause it's not there for you. It's in there for WNBA fans and so females can finally be represented in a fun engaging mode.

So many people miss the point of this. It's not about it appealing to all the people who buy NBA 2k.

To assume that any attention was taken away from the modes you do care about for this is a reach at best.

I'm the last person you'd see nitpicking like some of these 12 yr Olds but some things bothered me in that video.. ..

                                1. Why is there zero rim physics? It stays completely stiff the entire time.
                                2. Allie Laforce mouth is just moving it's not even close to saying the words you hear. It's also the exact same situation as last year but Allie instead of David.
                                3. Why in gods name do they still have every single player standing still swaying in unison? Just non stop swaying.
                                4. Why do they keep using the most atrocious announcers? Most of them NEVER even call NBA games..
                                5. Zion is adjusting his shorts and jersey before the tip & nothing moves. His hands are rock solid as well and dont even look like they are touching his jersey.
                                6. I saw everyone do that triple threat behind the back. There's maybe 5 players who actually do that move in the NBA.
                                7. The pregame stuff on the court looks the same as the last 4 years. I dont see why they used this as a selling point in the video
